Hexagons in Honeycomb Starway in Super Mario 3D World

Hexagons are platforms that appear in Mario Party 2, Mario Party: The Top 100, Super Mario 3D World, and Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury.

History[edit]

Mario Party series[edit]

Mario Party 2[edit]

Hexagon Heat
Hexagons in Mario Party 2

In Mario Party 2, hexagons appear in Hexagon Heat. They have sides with a yellow and black stripe pattern, while the colors of the metal-textured surfaces on the hexagons are as follows: yellow on the top left, cyan on the left, blue on the bottom left, pink on the bottom right, green on the right, red on the top right, and white in the middle. When Toad raises a flag, the hexagons that do not have the corresponding color sink into the lava. They function identically to the Mushroom Platforms in Mushroom Mix-Up, apart from the fact that they stay in lava longer than the Mushroom Platforms do in water in Mushroom Mix-Up.

Mario Party: The Top 100[edit]

In Hexagon Heat's reappearance in Mario Party: The Top 100 (where they are more simply referred to as "panels"), patterns were added to the top of the panels to make it easier to identify the correct one; their order was also altered as follows: blue with a vertical rectangle on the top left, pink with a square on the left, yellow with a triangle pointing down on the bottom left, red with a horizontal rectangle on the bottom right, cyan with a diamond on the right, green with a triangle pointing up on the top right, and white with a circle in the middle, just like in Mario Party 2.

Hexagons containing lava and ice in Honeycomb Skyway in Super Mario 3D World

In Super Mario 3D World and Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury, hexagons appear in Honeycomb Starway and Honeycomb Skyway. Certain hexagons contain ice or lava, making the platform slippery or even lethal, though most have grey metal surfaces that are safe to walk on. They can either be stationary or appear when the player gets close to them. They can also appear vertically, serving as obstacles blocking the path to the top of the Goal Pole.

If the player somehow starts at the end of Honeycomb Starway, three hexagons seemingly containing ice appear; however, the two on the outside clip into the middle one. They also make the player lose a life on contact, with orange lava splashing out.[1] This may be because hexagons filled with lava appear in the same spot.
