Thoughts on merging Flower (New Super Mario Bros. series) with this page?[edit]

The flowers in NSMB games are generic plant-based props that produce coins when interacted with. The only practical difference is that they're found in 2D platformers as opposed to 3D. -- KOOPA CON CARNE 11:43, May 29, 2023 (EDT)

I agree to a merge. A flower is a flower, regardless of how it looks. S o m e t h i n g o n e ! Red Bandit.png 11:46, May 29, 2023 (EDT)
Also, for much the same criteria, I think Flower (Wario Land 4) would also be a contender for a merge. -- KOOPA CON CARNE 11:49, May 29, 2023 (EDT)

Flowers is flowers. Change the name to "Flower (object)" and maybe we can merge some of the other pages to "Flower (item)" akin to our Mushroom page. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 13:59, May 29, 2023 (EDT)
A merge sounds like a good idea. - Nintendo101 (talk) 09:11, May 30, 2023 (EDT)
Agreed.

The only reason I haven't gone through with the merge is that I'm not sure what identifier to use. "(object)" isn't particular to this type of flower, since Flower (platform) and Flower (grapple) are also objects. Would "Flower (scenery)" or "Flower (ground object)" work? Or, perhaps one of the guides cited in this article offers a general term for the earthbound plants that give you items? I was also entertaining a merge with Item container, but I think the scope would get too wide. -- KOOPA CON CARNE 06:18, June 2, 2023 (EDT)
'(ground object)' would sound a bit nonsense. I'd just make a page called 'Flower' and lump everything there, with a distinguish template for Smiley Flowers and possibly the flower powerups like Fire Flower.

Hmmm when I made this page, I didn’t really think of it as a wastebasket for all flowers in the franchise - just those that had an explicitly shared gameplay function as denoted in the Shogakukan encyclopedia. Flowers appear as scenery in almost every single game in the franchise and I feel like it dilutes the purpose of even having an article if it was for every single appearance. - Nintendo101 (talk) 07:43, June 2, 2023 (EDT)

Got bold and gave the page's title a more encompassing identifier while moving the discussed content here. Feel free to discuss or even change the identifier yourself if anyone finds it too pretentious or otherwise inappropriate. -- KOOPA CON CARNE 13:32, August 1, 2023 (EDT)

I don't find it pretentious, but I am not sure it is as helpful as it could be. Is this not in some sense "biological"? - Nintendo101 (talk) 21:06, August 1, 2023 (EDT)

Change the name of Flower (biological) to Flower (prop)--Pizza Master (talk) 23:52, August 6, 2023 (EDT)

Yeah, this identifier isn't the most useful. Maybe "ambient" or "environmental object" is a little better. Icon showing how many lives Mario has left. From Super Mario 64 DS. It's me, Mario! (Talk / Stalk) 21:27, October 16, 2023 (EDT)
"Flower (environmental object)" would be perfect, imho. - Nintendo101 (talk) 22:35, October 16, 2023 (EDT)
