Peach's Birthday Cake is Princess Peach's board in Mario Party. The players compete on a large two-layered cake. It is made by the princess herself according to Toad as well as the ribbon on the side of the cake in the original game. At the end of the game the winner's Stars form into a large Star causing the cake to light up. The winner as well as the players in second and third stand on the cake. There are four seeds of different colors (red, blue, yellow and green) and the player must bloom one (after blooming a whole set, another set appears). Three of them have Toad's face imprinted inside them: if the player finds one, they "lose" and take the Star's path. However, if the player chooses the seed with Bowser's face, they "win" and are forced to proceed to Bowser's cake. In Mario Party Superstars, the event was moved to the end of the Star path, so the lottery instead determines whether the player goes to Bowser or the path leading back to start.<ref name=E3>Nintendo. In Mario Party Superstars, the event was moved to the end of the Star path, so the lottery instead determines whether the player goes to Bowser (indicated by a flower with Bowser's emblem on it) or the path leading back to the start (indicated by a pink flower). Also, it resets every time the Bowser seed is chosen, rather than all seeds being chosen.
*If the player lands on a Happening Space, they can bury a Strawberry Seed for 30 Coins, that then grows in a Piranha Plant (similar to a Piranha Pod). If a player lands on this space, the unlucky player loses a Star that the burier gains. The plant then disappears, unless the target has no Star, in which case the plant does nothing anyway. Technically, they act similar to Boos in other boards. In Mario Party 7, the Pink Boo Orb functions identically to the Piranha Plants, even costing 30 coins to acquire. In Mario Party Superstars, players have the additional option to pay 5 Coins to plant a smaller Piranha Plant. If another players lands on that space, it steals that player's Coins and give them to the burier.

In Mario Party Superstars, players have the additional option to pay 5 Coins to plant a smaller Piranha Plant. If another player lands on that space, it steals that player's Coins and give them to the burier. If the player lands on a space they already own, or lands on an unoccupied space while having less than 30 coins, nothing will happen in Mario Party, but the Piranha Plant will give the player coins in Mario Party Superstars. Players can then upgrade the Piranha Plant into the star-stealing type if they have enough coins.
*Bowser is on his cake. It can be reached by "winning" Goomba's lottery. When the player stops by, they get a Bowser Cake for 20 Coins. It is completely useless and highly reduces the probability of the player to get a Star when they return to the main cake.
*In Mario Party Superstars, a Happening Space near the shop can be used to slide down a wafer bridge and skip the Flower Lottery.
*Bowser is on the pudding and can be reached by getting a flower with Bowser's face on it in Goomba's lottery. When the player meets Bowser, they lose 20 coins and get hit by a bogus Bowser Cake. In Mario Party Superstars, he may instead give the player a Cursed Dice Block for 11-20 coins; if that player is in last place, he may give them 5 coins.

Koopa Troopa, Mario Party

Peach's Birthday Cake is Princess Peach's board in Mario Party. The players compete on a large two-layered cake. It is made by the princess herself according to Toad, as well as the ribbon on the side of the cake in the original game. At the end of the game, the winner's Stars form into a large Star causing the cake to light up. The winner as well as the players in second and third stand on the cake. The losing player is seen getting attacked by a Piranha Plant. This board returns in Mario Party Superstars where in the end, the losing player gets eaten and spat out by Piranha Plants that sprout in front of them. In both games, this board is the only one not to have a Boo anywhere, though in Mario Party, it is possible to get one with an Event Block.

Layout[edit]

Peach's Birthday Cake in Mario Party Superstars
The board in Mario Party Superstars

This board has a lot of Happening Spaces on the exterior floor of the main cake. However, Blue Spaces still appear on that floor and are predominant in other areas. The Star Space is also stationary, atop the cake in the center of the board, and the six playable characters from the original Mario Party are made out of fondant, with five being on top of the cake while one of Peach is in the bowl of colorful sweets (presumably Jordan almonds). The first layer of the cake also had light and dark brown cookie-like objects embedded into it.

The cake is double layered, with the player going onto the second layer via a "bridge". In addition, aside from the cake itself, there is also a bowl containing a partially bitten custard pudding nearby that houses Bowser, where he provides his inedible Bowser Cake. This area can only be accessed if the player gets a flower depicting Bowser's face on it in the flower lottery. It is connected to the main board by a choco stick.

During the game's ending, aside from the cake having candles, the hot fudge whipped sundae is depicted as whole.

In Mario Party Superstars, Bowser's pudding and the flower event have been moved over to the later part of the board, specifically the part where players leave the Star's area. This changes how Bowser's pudding functions; while it was originally a detour in the way of getting to the Star Space in Mario Party, it is now a quicker, yet more dangerous, loop to get back to the Star Space in Mario Party Superstars. Players also now traverse this area counter-clockwise instead of clockwise. In addition, the cake itself and the pudding are given slight redesigns. Aside from the change in location for Goomba's lottery and the newly added Item Shop, the cake now has white-frosted Vienna Finger-esque cookies surrounding the first layer, there is more whipped cream across the cake, with some being modeled after the turrets of Peach's Castle. The "Happy Birthday" message is also absent. The "bridge" is now replaced with pink and vanilla cookie sandwiches and is composed of two separate entrances and exits. The pudding is now whole, with the pudding also being redesigned to resemble flan, with whipped creme and fudge linings on top, and has additional ingredients of various cookie types, with Bowser himself occupying a green and vanilla cookie sandwich. The choco sticks are now replaced with sugar wafer cookies (presumably strawberry flavored due to their being pink), and the players start on a stack of plates and have to cross over to the main cake via a strawberry sugar wafer cookie instead of starting on the first layer with a conveniently decorated patch. The fondant figurines now appear to be made of plastic. Peach's figure, along with the plate of sweets, is absent from this version of the board. The top layer is now covered in strawberry marmalade, and features a white chocolate crown at the very center. This is the only board that does not have an Item Space (and, by extension, Item minigames).

Events[edit]

Bowser Cake
Luigi receiving the Bowser Cake
 • When the player reaches Goomba, they must pay 10 Coins (all their Coins if they have 10 or less or for free if they have none) to play a game called the Flower Lottery. There are four seeds of different colors (red, blue, yellow and green) and the player must bloom one (after blooming a whole set, another set appears). Three of them have Toad's face imprinted inside them: if the player finds one, they "lose" and take the Star's path. However, if the player chooses the seed with Bowser's face, they "win" and are forced to proceed to Bowser's pudding.
 • If the player lands on a Happening Space, they can bury a Strawberry Seed for 30 Coins, that then grows in a Piranha Plant. In Mario Party Superstars, the Strawberry Seed is replaced with a Piranha Pod. If a player lands on this space, the unlucky player loses a Star that the burier gains. The plant then disappears, unless the target has no Star, in which case the plant does nothing anyway. Technically, they act similar to Boos in other boards. In Mario Party 7, the Pink Boo Orb functions identically to the Piranha Plants, even costing 30 coins to acquire unless there is a discount.
 • In Mario Party Superstars, a Happening Space near the shop can be used to slide down a wafer bridge and skip the Flower Lottery.
 • Bowser is on the pudding and can be reached by getting a flower with Bowser's face on it in Goomba's lottery. When the player meets Bowser, they lose 20 coins and get hit by a bogus Bowser Cake. In Mario Party Superstars, he may instead give the player a Cursed Dice Block for 11-20 coins; if that player is in last place, he may give them 5 coins.

Trivia[edit]

 • In Mario Party, when a player gets a Star, Toad sometimes says, "Princess Toadstool made this cake. What do you think? Isn't it cute?". This makes Mario Party one of only three games in the Super Mario franchise in which the Princess is referred to as both "Toadstool" and "Peach", the others being Super Mario 64 and Mario Party 2.
 • Part of the music for this board is a rendition of part of the Super Mario Bros. Ground Theme.
