What about adding the style <code>white-space: nowrap;</code> to the cells for name entries directly? == DK64 Stop 'N' Swop == | |||
Hi, I've updated DK64's pre-release and unused content page with details about the game's scrapped Stop 'N' Swop feature, as per info that has surfaced in a recent tweet thread by Rare producer Paul Machacek. I would like to ask if you can proofread the information I added and point out any misinterpretations of the content in Machacek's letter, including the ideas put forth by that tech support director. Interestingly, according to the sixth tweet in that thread, this feature was planned to be implemented beyond just the Banjo games and DK64 into other Rareware titles--should we expand on this instead of just saying "As with other Rareware titles..."? 21:25, January 23, 2021 (EST) | |||

Hi again! I hope I'm not bothering you, but I made some pretty substantial revisions to the Super Mario Sunshine page (specifically for Characters, Enemies, Bosses, Courses, and Items) over the past few days and I was just curious to know if your feelings on them. Do you think these improved the page? Are there any other parts of the page you feel could be improved? I ask since you were kind enough to reach out to me in the first place, and I really appreciated it! It can be difficult to get a sense of how other curators and users on the wiki feel about substantial revisions like this. ==Re:encyclopedia== | |||
I find that pretty interesting, because I've actually have been sitting on that part of the book for a while now (not for any particular reason, just because I wasn't sure how best to cover it and then I got distracted and had that info on the backburner). Name-wise, in regards those pages, his claim is correct - it's the added US release dates that can be shaky (the Japanese version, naturally, only lists Japanese dates). I'm going to assume he had his reasons, perhaps contractual, as to why he wasn't too specific about it earlier, but regardless, there's still a handful of dates that overlap with pre-sourced wiki. In my opinion, it's a safe bet that they were taken here considering he did say early on that he innocuously looked up the wiki just to see if things checked out. Note that this seems to be a constant irregularity in Dark Horse's encyclopedias, but he says he wants to take full responsibility for these pages, so I'll leave it at that. According to my notes, these were at least: Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3 (states "3.13.1994" instead of 2.1994), Game Boy Donkey Kong (states "7.22.1994" instead of 6.1994), and Yoshi's Story (states "3.10.1998" which is..neither date). This can also -possibly- include: Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest (states "11.20.1995" instead of 12.1995 like the site and Chronicle; however, Nintendo Switch Online apparently cites this date now), Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble! (similar to DKC2), and Donkey Kong Land III (states "10.1.1997" but couldn't find a good source for exact day). My notes ended at Yoshi's Story, probably because I figured as it approaches the 2000's that release dates get better documented and so the rest are likely a match, but I can double-check and look through the rest later. I'm not sure how you think this ought to be covered in light of that. LinkTheLefty (talk) 14:17, April 6, 2022 (EDT) | |||

== Two Questions (for you) == | |||
First, I noticed that this talk page is getting a bit long. Now, I don't want to be rude, but have you thought about archiving it yet? | |||
Secondly, why does MarioWiki:Courtesy#Censorship say that it is somehow "offensive" to censor offensive material? I find it more offensive to leave the swear word or inappropriate information as is instead of replacing it with more appropriate information. Kids surf this wiki, and I do not think it is a good idea to teach them bad words or inappropriate information. | |||
By the way, I know Walkazo was real firm on not censoring material just because "there's swearing in it" or "it's inappropriate". But considering she has passed away, has anyone else though about making the rule more lenient? Censoring inappropriate stuff by replacing it with more appropriate stuff shouldn't be a problem as long as it does not degrade the quality of the article in any way, right? Ok, after looking at my edit, I realized that a dead link and red link are apparently not the same thing. I must've confused the two by accident. - “Fire! Fire! Fire! And don't stop firing are the only instructions you need. Because in this Doomsday extravaganza, there's little time for thinking. A killer instinct is all that matters. And if your trigger finger lacks stamina, Earth will lack a future.”

Pauline[edit]
I stated that Pauline is the first female character in Nintendo games and the first female character in games in general. You said that this is false, but it's correct. Ms. Pacman, often cited as being the first female character, came AFTER Pauline. For a piece of trivia on Pauline's character, I think that is a pretty important piece of trivia.

What's this warning doing here?[edit]
Hi, Glowsquid. I got a warning from ParaLemmy1234 (talk) for "adding inappropriate messages on article talk pages." I'd like to know what exactly I've been doing to receive this message and how I haven't gotten any advance notice to alter my inappropriate behavior. Thanks.
My sister has also gotten a warning without any sort of advance notice from the same user because she was "swearing in edit summaries."
I have a feeling that ParaLemmy1234 gave these warnings without devoting a lot of time considering if we really deserve it and that the user doesn't realize that warnings shouldn't be dealt out so lightly and generously like this.

Question[edit]
I'm wondering. With regards to the recent move vandals' shenanigans, would that be enough to consider a change of some sort to the methods by which users are granted move privileges, or will things remain as they are? Lord Grammaticus (talk) 08:12, 19 January 2014 (EST)
- I feel like that's a part of the issue; it already is an autoconfirmed privilege, and the most recent vandals have abused that by making complete junk edits to fulfill the conditions for autoconfirmation (in the case of the the potato drone, they'd made a few vandal edits that resulted in their previous block, which still counted).
- I do agree that this isn't nearly as severe as what I've imagined you've had to deal with before my time (since this is the first I've ever seen of this nonsense), but it's still something to consider, I guess. Lord Grammaticus (talk)
- Works for me, just had to be sure. Thank you. :3 Lord Grammaticus (talk) 08:36, 19 January 2014 (EST)

Wario Fandom/Fan Site[edit]
Would you be interested in one? Because you seem to be the person here (and on sites like DK Vine and my own one) most 'connected' to the Wario series fandom (what with your focus on updating the WarioWare pages and character preferences), and so I'm curious whether you'd be interested in the idea of a Wario Land and WarioWare focused website in the near future.
It's not launched yet (hence why I haven't added it to the Mario Wiki affiliates list), but I do think it seems like something you might potentially be interested in given your comments on my Wario fandom article, and given that no existing site about the subject already exists, I think any help from those Wario series fans still around would definitely be much appreciated.
Edit: I replied to your question on my talk page .
Name change question[edit]
So I am planning to change my name on the 16th (which is the date of my first name change a year ago), but I was wondering; when we get renaming privliges back, do we get 2 chances like the year before, or only one (so that we have to wait another year for another one, then another, and another, etc.)? RE: G&W[edit]
You're welcome for the additions! Unfortunately I don't have a Wii U so I had to rely on a close friend who does have it for #14, 20, and 21 while the rest were from a playthrough by someone on YouTube. I've made a note to myself to double check them once I do get the console and obtain them. If I come across anymore Mona Superscoops (including the number, title, and caption for the unsorted) or cards from said friend or elsewhere, I will add them. --Herobrine (talk) 11:41, 28 February 2014 (EST)

FA Move[edit]
I think I explained it badly on the forums, but I believe the current nomination doesn't have the number, and the archived ones have a number on it. In the unfeaturing failure category all of them bar one has a number after them, and from what I've seen from archiving FA nominations they should have numbers. Yoshi876 (talk)

A question[edit]
Hello, I was just wondering why I was banned again from the forums? The reason said I was continuously bringing up personal drama, but honestly I was really trying to cut down on that. I didn't know I was still being excessive, so sorry about that. I just won't bring it up anymore. (I don't know which mod banned me but I'm assuming it doesn't matter which mod I contact concerning problems) Again, I apologize for the trouble. -- 22:41, 31 March 2014 (EDT)

Excuse Me...[edit]
But do you think this an appropriate template for the main page?
- In the Virtual Console releases of Paper Mario, the star pattern on Monstar incorrectly extends past its body (pictured).
- The name of the Donkey Kong Land III world Tin Can Valley is a pun on the American songwriter community Tin Pan Alley.
- During the mission Purple Coins on the Summit in Super Mario Galaxy, the starting planet is not visible.
- Sprites of the Koopalings go unused in Super Princess Peach.
Okay. I was just wondering, because my little siblings come on this website, and if they are talking about h*** on this, people will be highy offended. There are also Christains on this website. It would be a lot less offensive if you chose a less inappropriate subject. Thanks.

it's me again this is a new message my ip change's at time's and i have no idea what you mean and you think i did some thing to Vivian page even thought i showed proof that she is a 100% female in the japan version maybe i should show you a link that show's that their is more proof that she is female then male in the japan version and like i said my ip change's at time's
the wiki is wrong about the Vivian part but the wiki for Vivian is 90% right
and do you know that hombre is also slang for homie or punk you do know that right?
this is not even my ip my ip started with a 1 i'am telling you the truth
and go look at my last edit's on my account i only have one computer
and i'am telling you that is not me my ip changed on me and their are a lot of people that know's the truth about the japan version p.s my ip is not the same and i was on other page's and only have one computer
- IPs do not change to existing users, otherwise too many users would get banned as a vandal's account would come along and their IP address would move to it. Also, as I've stated you're computer information is identical, and seeing as you only have one computer, it's obvious that you were the user, especially since like I've mentioned the user shares your exact same views, and even uses the "joke" that you mentioned a lot. There is no point arguing, it does not take a rocket scientist to figure out it was you. Yoshi876 (talk)
the only other person that use's my computer is my Dad and he mostly does that when i'am at school or out of my room and the ip thing is not the same
it's me Grand Master Gamer i cam on here to find out that you ban me for some thing a other user did i then when't on the block log and found out that you thought i was being some kind of puppet i have no idea what that mean's so can you at lest unblocked me 64.229.234.236 18:39, 21 June 2014 (EDT)

Fact, not Theory: Luigi 64[edit]
Hey, Glowsquid? The Paper Mario explanation wasn't a theory, but fact. Look it up and you'll find out how. So was Eternal Star. Look up the subject it can be interpreted as that.
End of hole reaction thing[edit]
What should we do with the End-of-hole animations than? If you feel that it doesn't warrant a section, it still needs to go somewhere, as it is a memorable and somewhat important thing. If it doesn't deserve a spot, where do we put it? I thought it was fine where it was. (By the way, you should deal with here if you're convinced about wanting to get rid of it) - 09:46, 5 August 2014 (EDT)
- You see it every hole on basically every mode you're on, making it far more memorable and notable than a cup result for Mario Tennis. But an image sounds like a good idea, as it puts a description along with what it looks like without making a section for it, maybe not the gallery though. Have you seen how many pics there are of them? On a side note, do you think that the challenges table should become a template, seeing as it's huge and everything, like the MK7 kart part section? - 10:26, 5 August 2014 (EDT)
Modifying Featured Articles[edit]
Hey, I was looking at the FA page, and the list looks UGLY. Even if chronological, I find it disorganized. I have two advices:
- Separate currenly Featured articles from currently Defeatured articles
- List them in alphabetic order
Rumour Revertion[edit]
The reason was Weasel Words, and I got rid of those.
Rumors. Ah, good/bad things.[edit]
Hey... I would give a Warning to John D directly for adding repeately things that autopatrols, THEN a bureaucrat (you) delete. That is kinda edit war in my opinion. Let me know if I got it wrong. TSUNAMI
- The user does it again. He did change little things though. And Walkazo (see history) thinked that I copypasted and modyfied SM64 Luigi (misunderstand, but not angry at him in any way). I will issue the warning, if I got it wrong, I will face what will happen. TSUNAMI
Possibily series[edit]
I ask it at you since per a rule I cann't make a proposal about thins: now that Treasure Tracker is coming soon and SM3DW already have some levels, can we make Captain Toad (series)? There are already series with two elements such as Mario Strikers (series), but I'm not sure at all. TSUNAMI
- Sorta, but I get it. If another Captain Toad game comes out that's a series. (That was probabily another of my n00bish qustions)TSUNAMI
Back with another question[edit]
Me again. You know of the recently announced (and hyping) MK8 DLCs, right? Thing is, some sections (weight system) has part of the content already released and part is DLC. Should we make a template like "partupcoming" to signal that part of the article is upcoming? TSUNAMI
- Yeah, I spammed them, but they refer as the whole section is upcoming. Thing like the stats is partly upcoming, not completely. TSUNAMI
HTM format[edit]
[1] 12 new amiibos that I cann't upload because wiki doesn't support .htm and when I convert to .png, it gets corrupted. Do you know how to upload them? TSUNAMI
re:re:this[edit]
Sorry for the misunderstanding. Also, in case you wanted to sort things out, John_G changed it here. Hello, I'm Time Turner.
Undo Block?[edit]
Hey, Glowsquid? John_G here. Can you please undo my block? I wasn't using an IP because I wanted to make something more common, I was just using my other computer when signed out. I kept re-adding the information that was deleted because it was true information as far as I knew. And I did not plagarise anything, I wrote the information myself. I don't see why my account was blocked, and I wasn't aware I was breaking any rules. If something I wrote was similiar to something someone else wrote, I was unaware of it. So. . . Can you re-instate my account? Because I think I need a second chance. Also, can you add Marty the Thwomp to the rumor page?
- Standard procedure when you want to contest a block is to email mwikisysops@gmail.com as instructed in the block message instead of ban evadind, but I'm willing to humour you this time only (won't respond to any further message).
I've talked with the rest of the staff and any appeal you make is very likely going to be denied. Here's why:
1: Prior to your block, you were warned about edit-warring and changing the lead without discussion - both of which you continued to do as an IP after the warning was issued. "I didn't see it" is not an excuse.
2:Even if it had been an acceptable excuse, fact is you continued to edit-war and change content without discussion, and that after your changes were reverted by staff and non-staff alike.
3:Some of the content you added is clearly plagiarised - Compare page 7 of this GamesRadar feature] with what you "wrote" about the purple yoshi rumour in yoshi's story. Switching from active to passive, using synonyms and changing around the sentence order is nowhere near enough to pass it as original writing.
If you're still willing to contest your b&, send an e-mail to mwikisysops@gmail.com. Don't say you weren't warned. --Glowsquid (talk) 20:30, 11 September 2014 (EDT)
Disarm[edit]

Jungle Beat[edit]
Thanks. I've spent a lot of time on it trying to make it the best article it can be (though I'm sure you've noticed)...
One thing I've been wondering for some time, though: should the New Play Control version of the game have it's own article, or should it stay where it is? It may not look as updated as other remakes, but it has original content, changes to gameplay, and a (somewhat) unique title as per the New Articles Policy. I just want an opinion on this before doing anything.
Okay then, I'll try and work on that later. Thanks again.

Sockpuppets busted[edit]
Hey here are two users using sockpuppetry of vandalism against me in the Diddy Kong page, I have a feeling like they might dont know each other, but using teamwork (which is sockpuppetry. Here are the 2 suspected sockpuppets: LinkTheLefty as you can see here he added false information he thinks diddy kong is a buddy to DK, while I think hes both the nephew and buddy and many other people and sources (including wikipedia) as well. Another user comes in and defends him and insults me: Time Turner -.- 123johnpaul (talk) 22:19, 20 December 2014 (EST)123johnpaul
- Your words hurt me. Fortunately for me, I have a track record of five years and 20,000 edits (seriously, what kind of sockpuppet wouldn't get found in that time?), so it's merely a flesh wound. Hello, I'm Time Turner.
never mind -.-
Ban[edit]
Please ban a vandal who's leaving some very polite messages on my talk page. Thanks. Ray Trace(T|C) 20:23, 26 December 2014 (EST)
Old Guide Question[edit]
Hey, I added a panel depicting what may be the Mushroom King from How to Win at Super Mario Bros. for his page. The book also states that it's a translation of an older 1985 Japanese guide, so the English version may not have been his first appearance. I was wondering, can both pages of this illustrated storyline be uploaded (kind of like this)? The artwork is fairly obscure - I first spotted it years ago but the website that had it is defunct. LinkTheLefty (talk) 08:48, 25 January 2015 (EST)
- All right, here it is in its entirety! It reminds me of those neat little illustrated storylines came with certain manuals like Kid Icarus, Metroid, or the Zelda games. LinkTheLefty (talk) 18:43, 25 January 2015 (EST)
Demo[edit]
Ah, thanks for the info. I was having a hard time finding a mention of it online. Still, there isn't any information on what the demos actually contained, and the user who originally posted the info hasn't said anything yet (though I've only recently thought to directly ask about the demo...). If you could find anything else, please let me know. Hello, I'm Time Turner.
Mario Maker[edit]
Just in case you'd like to change your vote, two new options have been added to the proposal on creating articles on the Mario Maker enemies, both based on compromises suggested by Yoshi768 and Toadbrigade5. Check the talk page for more information. Hello, I'm Time Turner.

Image Sorting[edit]
Earlier, I sorted out a bunch of images in the Super Mario Bros. 2 gallery based on whether they came from the original manual, Nintendo Power, All-Stars or Advance, adding page numbers in the summaries when I can identify them. There's at least two I can't ascertain (this and this, and maybe one or two of the Advance images). I haven't really seen it done, but would templates like refneeded or your pageneeded be accepted for image pages? I was wondering since I considered proposing full galleries for the All-Stars and Advance games (much like Super Mario 64 and Super Mario 64 DS have their own galleries), but it'd take some work ensuring it's all correct. Move Big Bob-omb to King Bob-omb[edit]
The name King Bob-omb appear in the three most recent games that Big Bob-omb appear in, so can we move the page to King Bob-omb? It's also one of the policy of the wiki I think (If a name change, go with the most recent one).--(TALK) 16:27, 16 April 2015 (EDT)

About Proposals[edit]
I think they're worth having up - in particular, this one interferes with the proposed change, and we've already had some Bubba proposals in the past that have failed and may get in the way of what would be done with that article. These other proposals have multiple options, so the idea of them is to reach a consensus. If you recommend it, though, I'll let go of the block proposals if you believe there would be no objections, since they're the simplest ones. LinkTheLefty (talk) 00:42, 18 April 2015 (EDT)
- Okay. In that case, I'll quickly run it by Time Turner since he's the one who had that grievance. (Thanks for pointing this out, by the way - I wasn't aware of it and it might come in handy in the future. Also, while I'm at it - may I ask what's the status of the Snifit Police proposal? It seems to have been extended with two separate deadlines, so I'm not sure if it's still in progress or not.) LinkTheLefty (talk) 10:22, 18 April 2015 (EDT)
- Regarding Snifit Police - since it has reached the point where it's looking to be repeated ad nauseum, would it be okay for me to simply cancel the proposal and just override the previous proposal's decision by the citing name policy in favor of the Virtual Console version? LinkTheLefty (talk) 16:15, 19 April 2015 (EDT)

Tailikku1[edit]
It really seems to me that Tailikku is just trying to stall whenever I bring up the moves he's made. By all means, they're unofficial and should be moved back, especially considering the only source she's provided is the JP wikipedia and she hasn't once brought up the problems we've mentioned, but at this rate, we're getting nowhere. Would it be possible for you or another admin to step your foot down? Another repeat of Mecha Boss-Unit isn't particularly pleasing for me... Hello, I'm Time Turner.
I'm sorry[edit]
I got carried away. I won't argue about the Mario rpgs anymore or mario kart 8. I just love being on the forum so much, I don't want to be gone forever. I'll accept this ban, but please let it expire at some point, I would really miss participating in discussions with my friends there. Thank you -- 17:14, 25 April 2015 (EDT)
- Third strike and explicit warning to not do it again. No. --Glowsquid (talk) 18:45, 25 April 2015 (EDT)
- The other strikes were a year ago and not even remotely the same offense. And I thought the warning was specifically for the arguments with Mcmadness in threads that had nothing to do with that. This one was about DLC for the game at hand and I was trying not to insult anyone. Again I'm really sorry but I think a perma is a bit too much. That forum is pretty much my second home and I swear I won't talk about it any more. I learned my lesson. I don't mean to offend anyone, it's just really hard for me to not respond with my honest opinion. I will stop, I just can't bear to leave forever :( -- 19:06, 25 April 2015 (EDT)
Toadstool[edit]
You should spend more time researching the name Toadstool because you obviously don't know why it surfaced in the first place, it was NoA who came up with the name and they had no right changing her name, they did not create her, NoJ and Miyamoto did and her name has always been Pīchi-hime, Peach. Not some poison mushroom name. it only deserves a mention in her history. User:Raven Peach
Sources[edit]
Calm yeself, I wasn't insinuating anything about you. I was speaking in general terms. I understand why fan sites are far from an ideal source. But I would also hasten against dismissing things simply because they can't be immediately sourced. By removing Japanese names when they're located it makes it a lot harder to actually research and cite sources in future. And, honestly, unless you want people to spend a great deal of money importing every Japanese guide, I think sometimes it's fair to take a little bit of discretion when it comes to sources. If a source is shown to be 99% accurate, then the 1% can be fixed later, can it not? I feel it's better to have nearly accurate names than conjectural names simply pulled out of thin air (which we know are inaccurate already).
I understand that Japanese words can look "off" alongside English ones but this is a Japanese series we're dealing with here, and that just strikes as a fairly petty reason to change things, you know? Many enemy names in the series are already untranslated, like Bunbun and some other older enemies, and there are numerous games without English sources that will never have English sources. I explained on Time Turner's page, but one issue with conjectural titles is that a lot of them were generic names such as "monkey" or "crab" or even "rock". ROCK. A page about an enemy named Rock. The main issue with this is that it causes conflicts with other pages where actual monkeys or crabs or fish appear who act completely differently. Basically I'd rather have SOME name rather than no name, and if there's a chance one of them is a teensy bit wrong, we can always correct it later rather than throwing out the baby with the bathwater by dismissing everything.
Another issue was that prior to finding some of these names there were numerous edit wars about which fan made name for a giant ball that looks like Wario's face should be called. Turns out the Japanese name, Don Gabamen is bizarre as hell and I have no idea what it means but at least it's stopped the back and forth name changing between "Big Bouncy Wario Ball" and "Wario Mask". Turns out it's not a ball, or a mask. It's a Don Gabamen. What's a Don Gabamen? Who knows, it's videogames, eat mushrooms, grow big, stomp turtles.
I'm not saying everyone needs to go out of their way to research these things, and I understand we need to be sure whether a source is accurate or not, but this is a wiki, and if some members do go out of their way to do such things it'd be nice if they weren't treated with total skepticism, either. As for the actual site in question, I have yet to see it proven wrong in any significant fashion. Doesn't mean it's perfect, but don't doubt the obsessive nature of Japanese video game fans. Fizzle (talk) 15:03, 26 April 2015 (EDT)
- I really think the source is as accurate as it comes, short of someone going out of their way to share information from the guides themselves. I've not seen a single inaccuracy, personally. I'm sure there might be one or two, but generally it is extremely reliable. I'm not sure it works anything like a wiki, either, but I'm not that well versed in how the site is actually run.
- We may have to agree to disagree on the other issue, I suppose. I'm not fond of conjectural names, though I understand why you wouldn't like potentially inaccurate Japanese names too. Though, the lack of a direct source should give people an indication not to take it completely at face value. If we source that site as much as possible, and guides where also possible, we may eventually reach a stage where we don't have to use fan sites if we get enough confirmation from guide scans/helpful users who have them. Perhaps there is a way to promote this kind of contribution? I'd rather not fan sites at all, it'd be nice if we had guide confirmation for everything, but I can definitely vouch for it being totally accurate so far, anyway. I personally would like to find a way to encourage people to come forward and confirm these names rather than shying away from them, hopefully there's a way we can do this. Fizzle (talk) 18:04, 26 April 2015 (EDT)
- Actually not a bad idea at all, will have to find someone a bit more fluent in Japanese than I, however. Not sure who runs the site exactly but I'm sure it has an admin or two. Whether they'll understand the request is another matter, too. I am pretty sure they will confirm that they are sourced from the Japanese guides however, as everything I've seen on there seems to be. Fizzle (talk) 19:06, 26 April 2015 (EDT)
Translating French Names[edit]
Hello there! I've been busy recently with creating articles on the Paper Mario badges, which involves the foreign names that I'm dumping from List of badge names in other languages. I've been trying my best to translate the French names, but there are a few that I couldn't find something that I was really satisfied with. Could you help me out? The ones that come to mind right now are Hammerman (Que du marto), Pity Flower (Dégâts PF), Return Postage (Choc Retour), and Close Call (Chaud devant, which I found to be an expression relating to waiters needing to pass by other staff, thought I find that to be a rather dubious meaning). Thank you in advance! Hello, I'm Time Turner.
- I can't think of anything myself. In any case, thank you for the help! Hello, I'm Time Turner.

Regarding that[edit]
Honestly, I think about our current level of coverage is fine: "in the film, this happens, but in the recognized but unofficial webcomic sequel, that happens." Basically, acknowledging that it exists since it's definitely a special case that serves as its own hypothetical continuation had the writer been allowed to proceed with it, but any significant developments or retcons (like King Reznor) wouldn't carry the same weight as any contradictory official material for the movie (like King Bowser). I don't think consulting one of the writers on the post-humous project is a sign that it would've been as close to what would've been put to film as possible, as fans of the webcomic seem to believe. That, and the fact that it markets itself as canon despite having zero endorsement by Nintendo is something that kinda rubs me the wrong way... LinkTheLefty (talk) 16:31, 3 May 2015 (EDT)

Source Search[edit]
Hey Glowsquid! On behalf of Time Turner, I wanted to ask a question (as he writes that he's not in the best state to do much editing right now). Lately, he's been compiling a giant list of articles or names without citations or English sources, and he's looking for some help with it. I did my best analysis and action with my own immediate resources, but it's obviously a big undertaking. I noticed you made a few edits in the past adding references to the Nintendo Power New Super Mario Bros. guide, and he has a few DS-specific entries on the list such as Blockhopper. If you can, can you see if you could add the source to Blockhopper et al., and possibly review any others? It would be appreciated. (Side note: since it's related, Moneybag currently has an apparent pageneeded for that same source, if you can check that out as well...) LinkTheLefty (talk) 06:00, 21 May 2015 (EDT)

Re: Game Arts page[edit]
Honestly, it feels like I'm stuck in writer's block; I'm putting a pause on my other projects and working on smaller details, like Game Arts. I just saw the name in the infobox on the Brawl page, and I figured it was worth an article. don't know if I'll be continuing with making companies (I thought about Monolith Soft, at the very least), and I might just start working on another random article. Hello, I'm Time Turner.
You ought to provide a reason for your proposals[edit]

Mario Boards[edit]
K, so... I know what you said earlier about my ban. Well I believe I spoke up way too soon. It's been about 2 months now (if my math doesn't fail me) and I realize that many users on the forum disliked my derailing of threads with arguments. Well I decided that I want to apologize and start anew, since I really do love this community and it's way better than GameFAQs where there are too many trolls and the like. I realize McMadness and I don't see eye to eye on most matters so it would be best if I just didn't respond to him at all. As I said before, I admit that the ban was deserved, but I believe I've served my time and can learn from this incident. I'm sorry to bother you again, but I really miss the forums so much and I really want to contribute to the discussions, especially on the matter of the new Mario & Luigi (Friendly discussion of course). In addition to that, I signed up for LTQ's Mario Kart 8 tournament and it is supposed to occur next month if I recall. Should I ever appear on the forum again, I'll be sure to let everyone know I am not going to be starting/participating in unhealthy arguments any more. Feel free to discuss this with the other mods, and if you decide I'm no longer worthy to be on the forum, so be it. But I hope you understand I am sincere in saying I will work as hard as I possibly can to avoid arguments from here on out. I understand the ice I am treading on here. Thank you for your consideration. -- 04:14, 24 June 2015 (EDT)

Someone Said A Curse Word[edit]
I Just Saw That Someone Cursed On Your Talk Page. I Think You Should Ban That User. (SRYU)
Re: yo, nice job on uploading those Wooly World's costume screenshots.
This is the one time, ever (to my recollection) that living in the UK has been a gaming advantage. I have seen so many people whining that Yoshi's Woolly World is out later in North America. Yes, there doesn't seem to be a logical reason for it, but my response is: imagine how it feels waiting until last for NEARLY EVERYTHING. :p
So I figured while I'm, for once, in the position to get new content and details up before they're already there, I'll help where I can, and where I have the time to.
P.S. The game is glorious, sickeningly cute, and one of my favourites. If you're one of the unlucky North Americans who has to wait and haven't had the chance to yet, just know that when it does come, I highly doubt you'll be disappointed. Just like Agnes said in Despicable Me: "IT'S SO FLUFFY I'M GONNA DIE". sums up Woolly World perfectly. :) --Kinkitsune (talk) 23:03, 10 July 2015 (EDT)

Really?[edit]
Thank you very much, I'm grateful to see somebody's actually aware of my contributions... say, more effort needs to be put in that page and its affiliations (the most important being levels). I am doing what I can about it, but editing on this wiki is more of a part-time "job" for me. I would really appreciate if somebody could help me somehow! -- -- KOOPA CON CARNE 13:26, 27 July 2015 (EDT)
- Since I've also updated the DKCR "Worlds and levels" section with a table, I pray that future Donkey Kong Country-related articles will have the same treatment. Who knows: my name will probably remain engraved on the history of the Internet ! Ha ha... Err, wait a second... Anyway, I've waited long, long time to ask someone this, in seek for an answer similar to my opinion, and now's my chance: don't you think that the DK Wiki is actually less concentrated in information about Donkey Kong than Super Mario Wiki? Yes, I'm a little bit of a buzzer. -- -- KOOPA CON CARNE 13:50, 27 July 2015 (EDT)
- Got it. I'm a supporter of the theory that the actions in the Donkey Kong series take place on Mario's world, contrary to general belief, and this is why I'd say that DK Wiki should've not been separated from this wiki... But then again, who knows? Maybe Nintendo will confirm the opposite of my statement, one faithful day... -- -- KOOPA CON CARNE 14:15, 27 July 2015 (EDT)

Re:SMRPG moves[edit]
I agree that it's very unlikely the average person is going to search for "Mr.Kipper", but when I checked earlier, it looked like it was printed close to that way in the Nintendo Player's Guide bestiary as well. I thought it would've been fine as long as the redirects take care of it, but it's also the only Super Mario RPG enemy with a period in its name, so it could just as easily be a minor visual quirk... Yeah, actually, it most probably is: now that I look again, that in-game period looks like it may be a leftover interpunct (・) from the Japanese version. It's fine if you want it reverted. LinkTheLefty (talk) 01:00, 2 August 2015 (EDT)
- We already had "KerokeroCola" and I think few others like that, so it seemed like matching the game's CamelCase made sense. It does look odd, though. Tell you what - I'll also check the manual and guide later, and see if the spellings differ there since those aren't limited by size constraints. LinkTheLefty (talk) 01:30, 2 August 2015 (EDT)
- So a few things like NokNok Shell are still in CamelCase, but it looks like a lot of names that were CamelCase in the game are spaced normally in the guide, and overlooking that was idiocy on my part. Shall I change them back? LinkTheLefty (talk) 19:42, 2 August 2015 (EDT)
- Sure thing. LinkTheLefty (talk) 21:52, 2 August 2015 (EDT)
Break[edit]
I hope I've been a pleasure for the most part, but the truth is, I think I've reached a point where I think I'm better off taking a break from the wiki. Is there an existing "inactive" or "hiatus" template of sorts that I can put on my userpage? LinkTheLefty (talk) 23:45, 6 August 2015 (EDT)

Hi again :) I have a few things:
1) If an FA nomination doesn't have 5 supports and no opposes by the end of the first week, how does it pass?
2) There is a grammar error on the FA page. It is: "how it should look like" which should be either "what it should look like" or "how it should look."
3) Dawwww, I forgot what it was. I know I'll think of it though.
Thanks! Don't Get Zonked! (blabbing · what i do) 14:48, 9 September 2015 (EDT)

- If I understand things correctly, it seems that those ips are most likely maliciously scripted bots that will continue vandalizing indefinitely until a block happens. 3D Player 2010 21:57, 11 December 2015 (EST)
- They actually don't script things indefinitely. We have several of them not even banned once, they just "edit" and then stop. And besides, people build spambots to advertise their product for google search rankings, the bots here don't do this. The only reason I suspect they're bots is because they have same-ish edit summaries and the message is taken from other user messages at times, with the message "Revert consecutive edits by Derpcrap", something this wiki doesn't even use but could possibly be from other wikis (it's actually "Reverted edits by Derpcrap back to revision by User") and just generally broken sounding language. Edit summary[edit]
Hey, uh, sorry if this sounds rude and all, but I edited the Motley Bossblob article on the basis that nobody provided any sources on Motley's pronouns! First of all, I'm not angry and I am very happy you provided actual sources on the discussion page upon changing it back, thank you! However, I am mostly here 'cause I noticed your edit summary is sort of discourteous behaviour? Specifically, "undo good faith edits without explaining why in the edit summary, especially if the user is new to the wiki" (you did not give any actual explanation on why the undoing was made, at least not in the edit summary) and "make derogatory edit summaries" (one example given is "what the heck are you trying to say?" and maybe I'm misinterpreting, I know I'm prone to that, sorry, but your "what" seemed pretty similar...) uh... Just, uh, please provide an explanation next time, instead of just "what", 'cause I'm a new user and it did feel a little insulting, especially from an admin... By the way I am sorry I didn't provide an edit summary myself, sorry, like I said I'm new to the wiki so I didn't know how to, sorry!! PS. Sorry if this counts as "give someone a hard time for undoing their edits", I don't mean to give you a hard time, I just thought I'd let you know for, uh, future reference, I guess!! Thanks!

Help understanding the rules?[edit]
I've talked with a user who called me incompetent behind my back (or well, they thought they did) while I was still a new user, I told them that's against the courtesy rules and they told me nobody follows those rules anyways? And they told me I'm not allowed to cite the rules? I'm really confused, they're a more experienced user, which they're using to explain why they? Don't have to follow the rules...? So I'm really confused, am I allowed to cite the rules or not? Are the rules ok to break? Is it even allowed for a non-admin/patroller to claim these things? I'm asking sincerely I have no idea what to believe 'cause I'm not entirely trusting of a non-admin/patroller claiming it's okay to break the rules and that I'm not allowed to cite them when they're broken uh... I thought I'd ask an actual admin so I could understand a bit better thank you and sorry!!! --Lemmyistrans (talk) 11:43, 23 April 2016 (EDT) PS. Why was my friend banned?[edit]
Ok. I get it. I'm no longer welcome on the Mario Boards. But why does that mean everyone who might possibly want to help me out is suddenly my sockpuppet? I'm perfectly able to contact the mods on this wiki, so what would I have to gain from sockpuppeting and then trying to plead my case on the forum? She's a completely different person, I did help her register but she's obviously not me. There wasn't even time to determine anything between her first post and the ban. I was there watching the whole time. But again, Lady of the glen is not me. She's not all that tech-savvy, but she is a good friend and I asked her to vouch for me since she's the only IRL friend I have who is really into any sort of digital games. We were using a public computer in my building. You guys don't have any proof we're the same person, so could you please unban her? And actually listen to what she's trying to say instead of instantly purging anyone who shows any sort of support for me? I'm starting to wonder if you guys even care about forgiveness and mercy, no offense. If you'd like any sort of proof she's not me, then just look at her e-mail address (if mods even have access to that) Not a fake. If you still need proof, let me know. I'll get her to make a wiki account too if need be. So sorry that I tried to get a friend to back me up. Guess I really am a terrible person. -- 17:00, 4 May 2016 (EDT)
MrConcreteDonkey 19:04, 4 May 2016 (EDT)
- It was indeed a dumb idea. I didn't know what else to do because I just missed the forum so much. Maybe you don't know, but the forums really helped me through some tough times in life. Remember my first two bans? Those helped teach me to put the past behind me and don't cling to it. I don't think permanent bans teach much of anything because the user never gets a chance to put what they learn to use. A year, while long, ends. And when it ends, the person has (hopefully) learned not to repeat the same mistakes. I understand permabans for trolls and people who post vulgar links, but immaturity (which is what that argument was: me being immature about something stupid) doesn't last forever. If a child joined the forum and was banned for immaturity, would he be denied access after he had learned to be more mature? Sure my opinions won't change, but my ability to control them will, and have. I've tolerated someone constantly spamming me with their differing opinion on multiple websites. I know how everyone feels about me doing the same. And I've recently refrained from posting more than once in threads with potential controversy on GameFAQs. Also while typing this, I received the messages about my friend's account. Thank you for believing that it wasn't me, I wouldn't resort to sockpuppeting lol. I hope you and the other mods at least consider what I've said here. I'm sorry to be such a pain.-- 19:13, 4 May 2016 (EDT)
Citations & Japanese names[edit]
Hello. I sometimes come to this wiki and add Japanese names to those foreign language boxes. I have a few questions.
1. Is it always a good idea to add a source for verifiability's sake?
2. How to properly format citations that include game dialogues? It seems that a particular way of quoting in-game dialogues hasn't been devised in SMW:CITE but has been in use on articles like Vivian.
3. Is it ok to cite sites like Niconico which require one to log in to watch a video? (They have some really nice videos on niconico, such as tattle collections which can be used to determine the Japanese names of NPCs in Paper Mario and Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door.)
4. The Japanese versions of some games such as Paper Mario don't have furigana. In cases where a Japanese name has a single kanji, it is sometimes difficult to determine the reading of the kanji. For example, in the case of "ゴツゴツ山" (Mt. Rugged), some editors romanize the kanji "山" as "san", following its on'yomi. I once noticed a character from the Japanese version of Paper Mario shouting the name in "hiragana mode" as "ゴツゴツやま", so I changed the romanization to use the kun'yomi "yama". But I'm not sure if there's another character who spells it as "ゴツゴツさん", though. In cases like this, is there a rule to use on'yomi or kun'yomi for single kanji in the romanization if the game does not indicate one? I also wonder who's going to take care of the Japanese-language related issues in the post-Walkazo era of the wiki. Neither SMW:JAPANESE nor wikipedia:MOS:JAPAN have something to say about this, though.
Thanks. A gossip-loving Toad (Talk) 23:11, 5 May 2016 (EDT)
- As I continued learning Japanese, I found that the fourth question needn't standardisation either (the best way is to follow Japanese speaking people's convention). Sorry about that. A gossip-loving Toad (Talk) 00:10, 31 May 2016 (EDT)
- By the way, do you think it's a good idea to add a "Common mistake" section to the documentation of foreign names, stating that translations should be official and not from Google Translate? We can also give a link to MW:CITE because newcomers often do not know how to cite the source and tend to leave it in the edit summary. A gossip-loving Toad (Talk) 11:17, 9 June 2016 (EDT)

He's not accepting any responsibility for his edits, and he creates some rubbish story about a hacker who seemingly hacked into his account so he can move an image (right after you told him not to move an image). He's clearly lying, and he's on a last warning, and this behavior is not acceptable on MarioWiki at all. Ray Trace(T|C) 19:44, 27 May 2016 (EDT)
My ban[edit]
Hey it's me TabuuandPeach I think that the permanent ban was too far. A ban for a week or so would have been better. By the way this is TabuuandPeach. Thanks! 71.70.95.178 12:41, 29 May 2016 (EDT) Please give this preacher a 2nd chance... 71.70.95.178 15:52, 29 May 2016 (EDT)
- I do think that this ban time was too extreme as our rules state that first bans are two weeks, second bans are three months, and the third ban is indefinite. TabuuandPeach (talk) was out of line, but he is not totally hopeless at this point. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 16:38, 29 May 2016 (EDT)
- Sorry Tabu but you're evading your ban, you broke the rules and suffer the consequences these include no more editing the wiki. (talk) (edits) 18:24, 29 May 2016 (EDT)
- @Wildgoosespeeder, sometimes best judgement must be used over policy. From what I have seen between here, SmashWiki, and other various NIWA wikis, an indefinite block was not totally out of line. If it were me...I might have done a year block, but that is not to say that an indefinite block is wrong. Serpent King 19:20, 29 May 2016 (EDT)

I accept your apologies, I also made a mistake myself by not looking at this page. Hi Glowsquid, you know Jasmaniac? He add keep on adding developper name on the infobox of some games article, but he's information was removed from some users, the last one by me on Mario Party: Star Rush, because he didn't give a source for Nd Cube being the developer, yes, Nd Cube developed recent Mario Party games, but should we first avoid speculation? Should he get a warning or get block? --(TALK) 19:50, 14 June 2016 (EDT)
- Sorry to disturb you once again with this, but he add back "ND Cube" on Mario Party: Star Rush's infobox and even on ND Cube's page has they develop Mario Party: Star Rush page on the wiki although there is no indication that ND Cube is a developer for the game, but Nintendo themselves and he didn't give source at all for his edits. --(TALK) 20:30, 15 June 2016 (EDT)
interwiki links[edit]

- I sent the appeal as an email to Smasher, over 2 weeks ago, as she was the only mod who had email on here; however it seems that it never went through/wasn't passed on/was ignored. Either way even if you do decide to keep the ban can you at least read through the appeal? I can share it somewhere else if you need. ( • ) 12:42, 2 July 2016 (EDT)

Quote and foreign names[edit]
Hello Glowsquid. I would like to request a few changes to the wikicode of templates.
The first one is about Quote and quote2. The templates work by formatting the first line, then doing a line break using <br>, then the second line, and finally doing another <br>. This method does not always guarantee that the space between paragraphs be put between the quotation and the main text. If you don't leave an empty line between the quote and the main text in the wikicode, the lines will come out too close:
- “I can't go out without my shell, period. Way too embarrassing.”
- —Kooper, Paper Mario
Kooper's Shell is the blue carapace that Kooper must wear in order to perform his attacks. It is stolen by Fuzzies during Chapter 1 of the game Paper Mario, along with the shells of many other Koopas.
Having the coding changed to something like <p> ...first line... <br> ...second line... </p>
would result in good spacing in all circumstances:
- “I can't go out without my shell, period. Way too embarrassing.”
- —Kooper, Paper Mario
Kooper's Shell is the blue carapace that Kooper must wear in order to perform his attacks. It is stolen by Fuzzies during Chapter 1 of the game Paper Mario, along with the shells of many other Koopas.
The second one is about foreign names. For some reason, if there is a great amount of text in the "Meaning" column, it would squeeze the space of the "Name" entry, like this:
Language | Name | Meaning |
---|---|---|
Japanese | クリ村 Kuri Mura | Chestnut Village (The Japanese name for Goombas is クリボー kuribō) |
Spanish (NOE) | Aldea Goomba | Goomba Village |
French | Village Goomba | Goomba Village |
German | Gumbafurt | Pun on the German name for "Goomba" and the German locational suffix "-furt". |
Italian | Villaggio Goomba | Goomba Village |
Portuguese | Vila dos Goombas | "Vila" means village |
And the two columns will be unbalanced. It was perhaps due to this reason that Walkazo started adding nw to the wikicode, like this:
Line 44: Line 44: {{foreignname {{foreignname |Jap=くりくりマロン |Jap=くりくりマロン − |JapR=Kurikuri Maron + |JapR=Kurikuri Maron |JapM="Big Round Chestnut". It is also a pun on クリボー Kuribō, meaning "Goomba", and 栗 kuri, another word for "Chestnut". |JapM="Big Round Chestnut". It is also a pun on クリボー Kuribō, meaning "Goomba", and 栗 kuri, another word for "Chestnut". |Fra=Noix Goom |Fra=Noix Goom
and this would keep the column widths from differing considerably (which is often the case if you have a wide screen). However, it is ineffective to add them over and over again when doing maintenance work, and I think that this problem can be eliminated by changing the coding of foreign names. If you look into the coding for nw, it's just a <span style="white-space: nowrap;">{}</span>
. What about adding the style white-space: nowrap;
to the cells for name entries directly? This doesn't hamper the mobile view (because CSS fragments embedded in wikicode are ignored there), and a long name doesn't matter since most desktop view readers have computer screens wide enough to display them.
By the way, the documentation of foreign names says that only official names are needed. But when it comes to simplified-Chinese speaking areas in China, unofficial but de facto names are also in wide use and some editors (including me) have been adding them. 鬼画符fff from Baidu Tieba holds the view that they should be admitted to the English Super Mario Wiki. Here's what he said (published and translated with permission):
Translation | Original text |
---|---|
As for why [I added those unofficial names], it's because so few games have been released from iQue, which is the only source off official names in [mainland] China, that it's practically impossible to track down the names for minor characters. The only RPG that iQue has localized is Paper Mario, so if you stick to official names, only characters that have made appearances there have them. Other characters, games, and moves simply don't have a name. But is Mario really called Mali'ou among Chinese players? At least most I've encountered call him Mali'ao. I don't mean to philosophize, but the fact is that Mali'ao has been in wide use as an unofficial name. It was also I who added it to the Names in Other Languages section of the "Mario" article. I didn't remove the existing entries that spelt Mali'ou, which had also been in use in China. My purpose was not to correct them but just to let everyone know how Mario is called in Mandarin. Due to the [temporary videogame ban], the specific development of the Mario franchise in China has been greatly hampered, and therefore the localization process was usually carried out by player communities and third-party websites. It was due to this reason that unofficial names like "chestnut-buds" and "Princess Pich'i" got established. I added such names here with the belief that MarioWiki, as a global and diverse encyclopedia, should include the real names used among Chinese players instead of sticking to the rules and hiding the the status quo of the Mario franchise in China. "Be scrupulously truthful, even if the truth is inconvenient, for it is more inconvenient when you try to conceal it." -- Bertrand Russel |
Be scrupulously truthful, even if the truth is inconvenient, for it is more inconvenient when you try to conceal it. ~Bertrand Russel |
My thought is that a limited number of unofficial names can be added if they have seen wide use and been agreed upon. Well, maybe for "Mario" we can have

and for "Fawful" (who don't have an official name) we can have

but I'm afraid inclusion of them will ruin the encyclopedia or something. Thoughts?

Removing unofficial names[edit]
Yeah, I agree that unofficial names should not merit an entry on this wiki. Actually I seldom add unofficial names to this wiki, but I might have made a mistake by referring to walkthroughs, which doesn't guarantee officialness. The Paper Mario walkthrough I stumbled upon last year and relied on while adding Chinese names here "seemed" to use official names (because the game title it gave was official), but there might be transcription errors. Also, since there is no capitalization in Mandarin, phrases like "监狱钥匙" could either mean "the Jail Key" or "the key to the jail". I'm terribly sorry for having ruined the wiki. If I were to fix it, would it be better to cite the walkthrough or simply remove those possibly incorrect names? A gossip-loving Toad (Talk) 22:01, 20 June 2016 (EDT)
- Yeah. By the way, is it ok to cite user-generated-content Q&A sites like Zhihu, which plays a similar role to Quora in China? (I think it would be nice to give the official name equal attention too, but haven't found any sources for it. iQue's website simply uses the name "Mali'ou" without giving reasons why that name is chosen.) reply[edit]
Eh... sorry for the late reply. On the Q&A site I mentioned, someone says that Mario's official name in China, 马力欧 Mǎlì'ōu, was preferred by Shigeru Miyamoto "according to an interview" and therefore chosen by iQue. However, that person didn't mention the name of the interview, nor did I find it. :( [EDIT: in such cases, is it better to cite the Q&A site or simply do nothing?]
There's another question I have in mind: when reuploading a picture for better quality, is it ok if the new picture is of higher quality, but differs in the content from the original picture? I wanted to upload a new version of File:Gob.PNG, but could not replicate the dialogue (having no older savestate). A gossip-loving Toad (Talk) 22:45, 13 July 2016 (EDT)

I found the icons here and just cropped them from the image. They do look in better quality in the game itself, as I do own it, but I don't know how to rip them from the game. A51 Trooper 18:23, 2 August 2016 (EDT)

Image Category Reminder[edit]
Hello, Glowsquid. Good job on your recent uploads, but when uploading files, keep in mind that you must correctly categorize the file. It's simple to learn how to do so. Just search for the correct category by starting with the following groups:
When uploading, copy the full title of the category and insert it in square brackets into the summary text box below the aboutfile template, replacing the uncategorized template entirely. If you're using the upload function from the text editor, simply add the category link to the description. For example, files related to the game Super Mario World would use: or Please consider the above information before uploading more files. Keep in mind that some files can belong to multiple categories. Do not put images into the media files category, or vice versa. If you continue uploading files without categorizing them correctly, then a warning will be issued. Thank you for reading, and keep contributing. |
I know you are a staff member here. Your recent uploads have not been categorized properly. I'll just use this template to relay information instead of it being a reminder. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 16:24, 24 December 2016 (EST)

Happy New Year. Anyway, since you appear to be a native French speaker, I have some questions:

- I've added the French names and their English translations of a good deal of mini-games from the Mario Party series. Would it be possible for you to double-check the translations?
- On another Wiki, I've translated some pages into French. However, they need checking by a native speaker. Here are the pages in question. Would it be possible for you to proofread them?

Me again, from the forum[edit]
Hello Glowsquid! I am Koops from the forum. First of all, let me thank you for helping me get my account back, I really appreciate it and am truly grateful. Now, though, I got my username changed and my password got reset, but just like the last time, I can't receive the mail. I believe it must be coming from my settings page, where I think that I didn't allow users to mail me, which was a dumb move by me. So, could you change my password again and send me another email externally to the following email address?

Twilight Town[edit]
The "Mario Kart Wii" thing came apparently from some (presumably fan-created) thing that said Twilight Rooftop (the battle course) was part of it. Which of curse makes no sense, Twilight Town has no tall buildings. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 21:19, 20 July 2017
DKC3 Barrel Blastapalooza[edit]
Good afternoon! I was advised to consult someone like you regarding old online games, like "DKC3 Barrel Blastapalooza", and I know you are interested in obscure official media, so here we are. The game seems to be official, and a sort of advertisment for the GBA release of Donkey Kong Country 3. I became aware of its existence after coming across a page on TCRF, and after a quick search on Google, I found a DKVine forum thread discussing various "DK Universe" online games, including this one. Someone posted a link to an archive file containing said game, so it's accessible that way, since it was taken down from the site it was originally on. Do you think we should start covering promotional Mario-related online games on the wiki? I've heard there are quite a few - there's a Mario Tennis and a MvsDK one. I suppose the Mario Party ones shouldn't be covered because they're merely Flash versions of several Mario Party minigames. -- -- KOOPA CON CARNE
- Also, are there any similar discussions on this wiki I am not aware of?
Then what do you say we start making articles on those online games? I mean, as you know, there are still quite a few that are fairly accessible, like Barrel Blastapoozaloo (didn't roll off the tongue as well this time) and DK Hurling Distance. I have even uploaded screencaps of the former.
I hope they won't go to waste... I'd like to write a page on this game. I just need to be told when. We can use this dead link to prove the game existed on an official site, then explain that the site was part of nintendo.com blah blah. Should we have a separate template for online games? -- -- KOOPA CON CARNE
I created a page for Barrel-Blastapalooza, but I am unsure on the formality/coherence of its writing. It's my first article describing a piece of media and I would appreciate if you checked it! -- -- KOOPA CON CARNE
- Thank you!!
Re: Yoshi's Story[edit]
Ah, pardon for the confusion. I was specifically talking about the 1999 edition of Prima's Nintendo 64 guides (which we don't specifically mention on the wiki but it exists), and that's the one that calls itself official. Is there an issue with pulling info from this? Hello, I'm Time Turner. 10:18, 14 August 2017 (EDT)
- I'm fine with it. If they're publishing books with the word "OFFICIAL" slapped in front of them, it's because Nintendo gave them the A-OK. I don't see a particular reason to doubt them. Hello, I'm Time Turner. 19:30, 14 August 2017 (EDT)
French names[edit]
Do you mind if I ask you about the French names of characters and any obvious puns or references in them? Hello, I'm Time Turner. 15:55, 28 August 2017 (EDT)
- Thank you! They're all from WarioWare: Touched!
- Ail vengeur (Nasty Garlic)
- Chichi the singe (Numchuck the Monkey)
- Hayato l'homme faucon (Shuriken the Falcon - note that "Hayato" is just the character's Japanese name, per this)
- Kiriki le chien (Shadow the Dog)
- Natacha Duchouine (Bridget the Baker)
- Surao man (Fligby - I roughly know what "Surao" means, but what's up with the "man" at the end?)
- Hello, I'm Time Turner. 22:26, 28 August 2017 (EDT)
- All right, I'm glad I'm not the only person stumped by "homme faucon". A cursory Google search gave me Horus (the Egyptian god with a falcon head), so perhaps the term has something to do with an anthropomorphic falcon or a human that transforms into a falcon? In any case, merci beaucoup pour ton aide! Hello, I'm Time Turner. 23:11, 28 August 2017 (EDT)
Actually, there's another French name, if you don't mind: the French name for Gnaw/Growl is "Gnap", and the meaning for it is "A possible reference to the Belgian/American Smurfs series; more specifically, a particular episode where a bug turns them into mindless purple creatures who can only say gnap!." Is there a saner explanation for the name? Hello, I'm Time Turner. 19:35, 1 September 2017 (EDT)
- Thank you for providing sanity. Hello, I'm Time Turner. 20:46, 1 September 2017 (EDT)
RE:Flash games[edit]
Hey, thank you! Unfortunately, I'm not sure when I'll be able to start covering these games on the wiki, but I didn't lose my interest. Actually, I found many Nintendo Flash games are still available to play on an archived nintendo.com page. I even noted them in the "Mario games" template (see), but they got removed because they need to be discussed first. How should they? A proposal? A forum thread? Or do I have to simply create their articles and then put them in the template? -- -- KOOPA CON CARNE
re:Nintendo R&D4[edit]
Oh, I didn't notice that. The sections in the Wikipedia page looks believable, but there not enough citations, which means these sections may be false info. - Infinite8 01:16, 28 September 2017 (EDT)
- The section talking about "Nintendo R&D4" in the talk page was created on 2011, but the wiki page for Nintendo EAD, as of now, wasn't changed yet. - Infinite8 01:24, 28 September 2017 (EDT)
Question on whether something counts as an official source[edit]
The Nintendo Creators Program page which lists games eligible calls Kaettekita Mario Bros. "Mario Bros. have returned". I am unsure if this should count as an official name because the name is in lowercase (not Mario Bros. Have Returned), and it is an awkward translation. I tried asking on that game's talk page a while ago, but did not get a response from anybody, and you are an active administrator whom I assume would know what to make of this. 1-Up Mushroom Edit[edit]
Wait, WHAT? If you think I was edit-warring, then no, I was absolutely not, but I think you know that already. (I thought you were calling me out for edit-warring at first.) But oh, I had no idea that the 1-Up Mushroom was not the absolute first extra live-granting items, even though you DID just say it in your edit summary. I had gotten my fact from the main page trivia section, which I THINK at one point said that the 1-Up Mushroom was indeed the first such item in video game history. I am sorry for that, I had no idea and it was an honest mistake on my part. My bad. Lcrossmk8 (talk) 21:10, 30 October 2017 (EDT)

Hi, just letting you know I just drafted a proposal (which, by the way, cannot be proposed until 22 April 2018 at 23:59 GMT) that borrows heavily from your proposal from nearly three years ago, in case I might have plagiarized. If I have, feel free to let me know. Thanks! P.S.: If you're wondering, yeah, I think I found yet another inaccurate term. It'd be proposal I'm sure you'd at least be inclined to support! 2 questions[edit]
Hi! I'm the main current active administrator at Donkey Kong Wiki.
I wanted your advice on this. It seems like a simple enough change to not need a talk page proposal at Talk:Donkey Kong Country, but I'm unfamiliar with this wiki's procedures.
Also, we're currently planning to merge DKWiki with this wiki (Porplemontage has given his blessing). When I was considering it further, I realized I may actually want to additionally make a proposal here, what do you think? --The Retro Gamer 18:43, 15 April 2018 (EDT)
Flagging an alternate account[edit]
I created a bot account to do some things (e.g. category handling, template handling) that will be necessary during the merge. It will need to be marked with the autoconfirmed flag, and additionally the bot flag (though I don't have any tasks planned yet, so I don't need the bot flag yet, and it may be better to wait on that).
I also just had a thought about the merge procedure: while we don't need a merge proposal to do the merge, it would probably be useful to have a merge proposal that discusses whether certain things will be merged (e.g. categories like this, pages like this). --The Retro Gamer 22:01, 15 April 2018 (EDT)
- This conversation may be of some additional relevance. 22:07, 15 April 2018 (EDT)
Talk page proposal handling[edit]
I think I did this wrong. I intended to make a more narrow proposal specific to DKC3, but my title phrasing was ambiguous. But now I actually do want to make a proposal more general to enemy group pages, but where should I do this? Talk:Enemies? --The Retro Gamer 01:58, 16 April 2018 (EDT)
- So I would create the proposal at MarioWiki talk:Proposals? That's the impression I get from "Proposals dealing with massive amounts of splits, merges or deletions across the Wiki should still be held on this page.", but I assume by "this" page it means the talk page? Sorry to bother you further, I just don't want to mess up the proposal too badly. --The Retro Gamer 09:19, 16 April 2018 (EDT)
More CSS editing[edit]
*sigh*
So apparently, the mobile site's CSS does not inherit from the main CSS. Therefore, could you add the dktable-brown
code (this diff) to the Mediawiki:Mobile.css?
Additionally, the mobile CSS extension does not allow user-specific previewing, which is quite unfortunate (I tried User:The Retro Gamer/Mobile.css and User:The Retro Gamer/mobile.css; no luck -- it's because the mobile CSS is provided by an extension that doesn't implement user-specific customization -- I'll probably file an issue with their tracker so they can hopefully add that in the future). Because of this, I would like to request you to add the below code for personal table formatting testing, since I would like to be able to preview how some planned changes may affect the mobile view. The CSS will not affect any pages besides my own (specifically my sandbox) because it is implemented using CSS class selectors.
/* The Retro Gamer testing - Brown DKC table styling */ table.dktable-brown1 {background:#fff;margin:1em 0;border:1pt solid #000;border-collapse:collapse;color:black} table.dktable-brown1 > tr > th,table.dktable-brown1 > tr > td,table.dktable-brown1 > * > tr > th,table.dktable-brown1 > * > tr > td {border:1px solid #000;padding:0.2em 0.4em} table.dktable-brown1 > tr > th,table.dktable-brown1 > * > tr > th {font-weight:bold;text-align:center} /* The Retro Gamer testing - DK tables rows coloring */ table.dktable-brown1-rows {background:#fff;margin:1em 0;border:1pt solid #000;border-collapse:collapse;color:black} table.dktable-brown1-rows > tr > th, table.dktable-brown1-rows > tr > td, table.dktable-brown1-rows > * > tr > th, table.dktable-brown1-rows > * > tr > td {border:1px solid #000;padding:0.2em 0.4em} table.dktable-brown1-rows > tr > th, table.dktable-brown1-rows > * > tr > th {font-weight:bold;text-align:center} table.dktable-brown1-rows > * > tr > th {background: #BB8855} table.dktable-brown1-rows > * > tr:nth-child(odd) > td {background:#FFF8DC} table.dktable-brown1-rows > * > tr:nth-child(even) > td {background:wheat}
EDIT: Actually, I have a better idea: instead of making that random change that I will soon revise anyway could you revise both the main and mobile CSS to have the below code (this would replace the previous code for the main CSS). Also, if you revise it, could you undo these edits to transition smoothly and minimize the disruption caused by modifying the CSS (there probably won't be an edit conflict, but it's possible, so just tell me if you can't apply the changes): [3], [4], [5], [6], [7].
/* DK table basic styling */ table.dktable, table.dktable-brown {background:#fff;margin:1em 0;border:1pt solid #000;border-collapse:collapse;color:black} table.dktable > tr > th,table.dktable > tr > td,table.dktable-brown > * > tr > th,table.dktable-brown > * > tr > td {border:1pt solid #000;padding:0.2em 0.4em} table.dktable > tr > th,table.dktable> * > tr > th {font-weight:bold;text-align:center} /* DK tables brown rows coloring */ table.dktable-brown > * > tr > th {background: #BB8855} table.dktable-brown > * > tr:nth-child(odd) > td {background:#FFF8DC} table.dktable-brown > * > tr:nth-child(even) > td {background:wheat}
--The Retro Gamer 23:41, 25 April 2018 (EDT)
- One final fix (tweak):
Change
table.dktable > tr > th,table.dktable > tr > td,table.dktable-brown > * > tr > th,table.dktable-brown > * > tr > td {border:1pt solid #000;padding:0.2em 0.4em}
to
table.dktable > * > tr > td, table.dktable > * > tr > th, table.dktable-brown > * > tr > td, table.dktable-brown > * > tr > th {border:1pt solid #000;padding:0.2em 0.4em}
and remove
table.dktable > tr > th,table.dktable> * > tr > th {font-weight:bold;text-align:center}
(as it's the default table formatting anyway.)

First ban = 1 week?[edit]
Why was I banned for 2 weeks on my first (and only) block then? Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 22:53, 15 October 2018 (EDT)
- To answer your question, most ban procedures go like this:
- First ban = 2 weeks
- Second ban = 1 month
- Third (and possibly final) ban = infinite/indefinite
- Lcrossmk8's block log is a perfect example of how the ban procedure was followed. However, ban lengths and ban procedures can vary on certain users. The ban length of a user can depend which offense the user committed and how many times a user committed offenses. Don't worry, you're not the only user who got a 2 week ban for your first ban. Nipper Dandelion[edit]
This discussion is giving us headaches. Since LinkTheLefty mentioned your forum post concerning SMBE's licensing breach on behalf of this wiki, I thought I might fill you in on this discussion: As you might already know, the Watage Pakkun page was created in 2006 as "Nipper Dandelion", and wasn't moved to "Watage Pakkun" until mid-2018. I know you already said something about how SMBE violating our license is indeed bad, but then the Palutena's Guidance for Piranha Plant in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate also uses the name "Nipper Dandelion"... We're just lost. Could you perhaps consider bringing up the issue with the admin team about potentially making this example the only exception to the SMBE naming? Thanks! (T|C) 11:25, March 23, 2019 (EDT)
- Also, this quote from Waluigi Time might be worth bringing up: "Not really following this discussion, but I agree with those who think we should use the English names. It's ridiculous and stubborn to ignore perfectly good in-game names because "it might be citogenesis", but at what point does it stop? How many more names that were confirmed in-game are we going to ignore because there's the chance it could've come from us or another fan site? I opposed renaming Rudy the Clown, and I oppose it here too. It's one thing for a book to blatantly copy from wikis, and I still wholeheartedly agree with not using it, but it's another for a name to actually be used in a game, and I think it's completely ridiculous that some users think we should ignore in-game sources because of the potential origins of those names." [...] "Dare I say this is also getting dangerously close to the wiki, rather than being an objective source on the Mario series like it should be, now leaning on opinions and picking and choosing what's canon." (T|C) 12:54, March 23, 2019 (EDT)
citogenesis[edit]
A new name could just be "fanonizing citation", a combination of canonizing and fanon and citation with fanonizing referring to examples with the SMBE trying to canonize fan-made terms, and if we sourced that we would be citing ourselves. Doomhiker (talk) 15:54, March 23, 2019 (EDT)
- Not to butt in, but I don't really see the need for a new term for something there's already a more known word for? Introducing TV Tropes-esque lingo to the site seems a tad confusing. Niiue (talk) 20:18, March 28, 2019 (EDT)
- Well if it's just for talk pages, then that's a much different situation than to introduce it "to the site." We'r mostly talking about casual conversation. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 20:34, March 28, 2019 (EDT)

Re:Strollin' Stu[edit]
I can make scans. It's not just Strollin' Stu, but also every other variant except the stack. Oddly enough, Versus introduces the basic Strollin' Stu under a different name (based on the internal one, "hamukuri"), but then the same guide suddenly uses Goomba practically everywhere else. My guess is that, judging from the release dates on Amazon (and assuming that the Nintendo Power guide was simultaneous with the actual game release), Versus Books and BradyGames rushed their guides to beat Nintendo Power and Prima Games on the shelf. LinkTheLefty (talk) 21:01, May 11, 2019 (EDT)
Anyways, I don't think it's a big deal, given how off-model the actual recurring enemies were. And of course, that trailer build with the Hinokuri had them looking more like actual Goombas. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 23:31, May 11, 2019 (EDT)
- That said, if you'd like to use them, I've now uploaded five pages for each of the Goomba references in the Strollin' Stu articles. LinkTheLefty (talk) 14:11, May 12, 2019 (EDT)
- Sure thing. I should also mention that the kug thing looks like a Goomba with Strollin' Stu features (blue shoes, "hair"), which may be more evidence that Strollin' Stus were once more Goomba-like instead of Burt-like. By the way, on a semi-related note: are references allowed on disambiguation pages? I'm not sure where else to put the sources for Electro-Koopa (unless I just scatter them about the individual pages which may look messy), but the closest example I can think of is the page for Piranha Flower. Should it also be considered that this is likely also related to Cranky's criticisms in the Donkey Kong Land manual? Italicizing IP[edit]
Three days is not enough; this IP range has been causing this nonsense for at least two months now. (T|C) 11:13, July 20, 2020 (EDT)
- Was not aware you could check contributions by IP range
- Yeah, most of the IPs in that range have been blocked before. So I blocked them again. 11:56, July 20, 2020 (EDT)

DIY[edit]
By the way, should Art Practice also be deleted in the meantime? It has the exact same ambiguity as the other two pages you deleted. (At least, I think so.) (T|C) 20:56, December 12, 2020 (EST)
- And yeah, I do apologize for being a bit careless in the aforementioned situation. (T|C) 21:02, December 12, 2020 (EST)
Moving pages without leaving a redirect[edit]
I saw on the edit history for Fury Bowser that you moved it from "Gold Slayer Bowser" to "Fury Bowser". How did you do that? I couldn't find such a button on these two times that I had to move a file from one to another (one time with the Simplified Chinese banner for Mario & Sonic Tokyo 2020, the other time with the SM3DW+BF European box art). DK64 Stop 'N' Swop[edit]
-- KOOPA CON CARNE 21:25, January 23, 2021 (EST)
re: voice actors[edit]
I concur, but i suggest they be inserted outside of here and into their own Wikis. L151
Super Mario Sunshine[edit]
Cheers! - Nintendo101 (talk) 14:20, February 5, 2021 (EST)
Can you grant this user the rights[edit]
If possible, can you please give User:Archivist Toadette the patroller right? They've done a great job at the wiki maintenance, have been here for over 5 years and made over 30,000 edits. Thanks, - BigBowserBoss FIRE! 13:06, March 2, 2021 (EST)
Re:encyclopedia[edit]
LinkTheLefty (talk) 14:17, April 6, 2022 (EDT)

RE: Movie[edit]
Thanks my man, yeah I briefly covered them in Super Mario Bros. (film)#Merchandise but I could tackle a full article next. Surprise, they're actually made by the defunct Ertl Company. Seems like every company involved with that s---can movie went under, go figure. I wanted to get around to re-doing the entire poorly written synopsis eventually but that's such a painful chunk of text. Paper Jorge (Talk·Contribs)
Two Questions (for you)[edit]
Mari0fan100 (talk) 21:01, August 29, 2022 (EDT)
- Ok, I understand that encyclopedias do not censor, And I will not bring up anyone else's death bluntly again nor will I treat it as a convenience. I apologize for being tasteless there. Mari0fan100 (talk) 00:11, August 30, 2022 (EDT)
My Edit to The Game Boy (comic) page[edit]
Ok, after looking at my edit, I realized that a dead link and red link are apparently not the same thing. I must've confused the two by accident. Still, shouldn't an article have as few red links as possible? Hence, that's why I removed the "red link" to begin with. Mari0fan100 (talk) 11:02, September 2, 2022 (EDT)

Made in Wario Bonbon coverage[edit]
I found your forum thread in Wario Forums posting the entire scan of the obscure Made in Wario comic by Comic Bon Bon. Then I realized that Dr Crygor appears in that manga! So, based on rough translation (someone promised to translate it, but we haven't heard from them in a year), I synthesized a paragraph detailing his appearance in the manga, but it needs work! Can you help out? And please put a paragraph covering the manga in these character pages:
- Luigi
- Yoshi
- Wario
- Dribble & Spitz
- Mona
I hope you understand.
PnnyCrygr 16:08, March 28, 2023 (EDT)
On the same topic, can you please delete this revision? I demonstrated poor judgement and added a direct link to what I sense is a copyright-infringing archive of the full comic. I assume the comic's author, back when they originally posted it, had the protection of some kind of limited license which archive.org lacks. -- KOOPA CON CARNE 10:25, March 29, 2023 (EDT)
- I didn't imply that publishing someone else's copyrighted content is above the law if it's done temporarily, I specifically conjectured the author might've 'ad a loisence for doing so. (For a lack of a better comparison) kinda like how WildBrain can distribute Mario cartoons on yt seemingly at will, but on much more stringent terms. I have a shaky grasp of this sort of legals though. -- KOOPA CON CARNE 15:30, March 29, 2023 (EDT)
