Pirate Lagoon is the third racetrack in the Sherbet Island area of Timber Island, the eleventh main race track, and the thirteenth track overall in the games Diddy Kong Racing and its remake, Diddy Kong Racing DS.

This track requires all racers to use hovercrafts, as it takes place mostly on water. It also features a long tunnel near the beginning, which consists of one sharp turn at its entrance. Besides that, the level's main obstacles are its many twists and turns, which racers must try not to speed around if they do not want to lose control. There is also ramp near the end of the track to skip driving around a wall.

In the N64 version of the game, this track has the same music as Treasure Caves. The DS version has its music replaced, in addition as Treasure Caves, making it the only composition to not return in the DS version.

13 Golden Balloons is the minimum total needed to unlock this course, and to compete in the Silver Coin Challenge (or Balloon Touch Challenge in the Nintendo DS remake), the total needed to reenter the course increases to 18. The official Diddy Kong Racing website suggested racing as Bumper on this track.[1]

Track layout[edit]

Pirate Lagoon from Diddy Kong Racing
The start of the track

The track begins as the racers drive under an overhang. Then, there is a land patch with two blue Weapon Balloons in the interior and three red Item Balloons in the exterior. There is also a hovercraft dash panel and a few more land patches that make the path bumpy. Soon, racers make a u-turn to the left that contain several item balloons. On the long straight, there are a few bananas on the far right.

In the entrance of the castle, there is a yellow balloon on the left and a blue balloon on the right. Inside the castle, when players make a sharp turn left, is a short corridor consisting of two bananas on each side. After a sharp turn to the right, there is a dash panel on the left. Soon, after the curve to the right, players perform a u-turn to the left, and there are a few balloons. Players can then take a dash panel to leap over a landmark (which contains a blue balloon midair, cutting the course, or drive around it. Then, they complete a lap.

  • After passing the first Zipper another coin can be found near a small island to the right.
  • On the first turn, the racers will drive right up to the third coin.
  • After hitting the second Zipper, the fourth coin can be seen to the right of the nearby tunnel on the edge of the area.
  • Outside of the tunnel, the third Zipper can be found. Driving through it will boost the players along the side of a wall, where they can find some collectibles, including a coin.
  • Shortly after the fifth coin, the racers will find a sharp turn. A coin can be found while riding around this area.
  • The seventh coin can be found to the right of the fourth Zipper near an island.
  • The final coin is located just before the finish line near a wall.
