I noticed on the wiki page that one of the confirmed themes is listed as being "Circus", presumably from the scene with the Banzai Bills at 1:10 (in the official Nintendo video). I believe that this is a little bit Moe-sleading. The correct theme title, I think, would be "Night", for Moe-ltiple reasons. Reason one is that the "circus" theme is not a recurring theme in many Mario games (really only Super Mario 3D World). However, night is a recurring theme which was not included in the original Super Mario Maker. I believe that the circus aesthetic was simply applied to the "Night" theme, as the two often coexisted in levels such as Spiky Spike Bridge, Footlight Lane, and, obviously, World Bowser itself. Reason two is that at 1:14 in the same video, the "Night" theme is shown in the New Super Mario Bros. U style, with no circus in sight. Reason three, which may tie in to reason two, is that at 0:43 in the video, the winter theme is shown in the New Super Mario Bros. U style as well... but strangely it takes place during the daytime, per New Super Mario Bros. Wii. Why would they change it... unless they wanted to differentiate the "Night" theme from the winter theme? After all, the constellations at 1:14 are taken right from the sky of World 4 of NSMBU.
Obviously, the trailer hasn't even been out a day, and so Moe-ch is still left in conjecture. None of this is proven. Plus, there are a few things which might make me reconsider. The platforms and conveyor belt at 1:10 do look awfully "circus-y", and there were some Moe outwardly "night-y" themes in Super Mario 3D World, like in Puffprod Peaks or Super Galaxy. Maybe this is a new "Sky" theme outside of the airships, or "Fog", or maybe even each game style will have one unique theme! There's no way of knowing! But as of now, a better guess seems to be the "Night" theme. Thus, I have made that edit. Anyone who wishes to dispute may, but these are my reasons. :I would actually say the theme falls under the Airship category. These stages were always in the sky, after all, and additionally, if one analyzes the footage closely, there's a slight bob to the camera completely unrelated to Mario's movement. This camera behavior is an infamous behavior for the Airship theme in the original game, so it seems much more likely to fall under that category. --MissingNumbers (talk) 13:54, 6 March 2019 (EST) | :I would actually say the theme falls under the Airship category. ::You might be right, as a Moe-tter of fact. Although it would seem quite odd. The theme in question looks quite like a circus, or maybe a train level, and that would be an odd choice to approximate for the airship theme. After all, most of the other themes would carry over quite well between game styles - underground to underground, jungle to jungle, desert to desert, and so on... but wouldn't it be a little strange to have it so that the airship theme looked like an airship in all of the first four styles, and then, randomly, like a strange circus loco-Moe-tive in the last? Making an airship shape in the other styles and then translating it to Super Mario 3D World style would throw everything off! Why not use a tank level theme or maybe even refurbish the airship theme from Super Mario 3D Land? Anyway, the airship theme is still there, as per the Super Mario Bros.-style clip in the trailer, and there Moe-st certainly is a night theme, as per my above paragraph, so the point seems to be moot for now. I guess we'll just have to wait until the game comes out! But I appreciate the feedback - I see your point, and it very well might be the case. I'm not sure if the current filling in of the chart is a good idea. == Disagreement on level inspiration for 3D World Themes ==
Could someone qualified to change this page please change the level inspiration for the Jungle and Snow themes? I believe that based on the fact that there are large ice structures in the background of the Snow theme that appear to based on world 3. In this case it would be Snowball Park, not Ty-foo flurries which appears in world 6 and does not have these ice structures in the background. As for the Jungle theme, The large Tree/vine things in the background are pulled directly from Piranha Creeper Creek and Deep Jungle Drift. Gargantuan Grotto, however, does not contain these structures. I think it would be best if it was Changed to deep jungle drift because of the focus on the liquid properties of the theme. (I'm new to the Super Mario Wiki Community So I have no idea who or how to tag) Awesomehippos

As noted in this video from a hands-on preview of the game, Checkpoint Flags are not as limited as it first seemed. A pre-made level used a Checkpoint Flag that provided a Super Star. So it seems that the flag can now provide any power-up or no power-up when crossed. == Fictionalized Course Makers in Story Mode ==
While it's obvious that the course makers in the story mode (e.g., Amateur Meteorologist, Celebrity MC, and so forth) aren't real people or existing Mario characters, and were named specifically for this game, there are three of them that strike out to me: A Certain Mage, Father of Name Withheld, and Name Withheld by Request. A Certain Mage's course descriptions always begin with "Kee hee hee!", which is an evident component of Kamek's speech pattern; Father of Name Withheld's course descriptions begin and end with "Gwa ha ha!", pointing all fingers at Bowser; taking this into account, Name Withheld by Request just has to be Bowser Jr., whom even describes their course, Wobbly Seesaw Castle, as being created from "watching their dad create an evil dungeon." Clearly, Kamek, Bowser, and Bowser Jr. also create courses for the player to play in the story mode. That's not even the problem here. The true dilemma is: Where do I mention said information? Whose article(s) does this pertain to? Does this count as trivia? Someone, help me. MarioManiac1981 (talk) 13:13, July 11, 2019

== Toads in Story Mode ==
I'm kinda confused here. It's clear that the Chief is Toadette, but the other Toads are uncertain; somehow, the Yellow Toad in Super Mario Maker 2 is linked to this lazy dude. Although both Yellow Toads display similar tendencies, is it best to assume that they're one and the same? And what about the other Toads? Are they generic, or are they also associated with the Toad Brigade? The Taskmaster is also another mystery: he's a Red Toad dressed in a blue vest, which is the Toad's defining trait; should we just assume the Taskmaster is explicitly Toad, or should we reference him in Toad's "Possible appearances" section? If the Taskmaster is clearly unrelated to Toad, is there enough information that warrants his own article? Someone enlighten me. MarioManiac1981 (talk) 21:52, July 13, 2019 (EST)
:It's hard to say, I think it would depend on the Japanese name of Taskmaster. Toadette's "Chief" JP name explicitly mentions her own name, so potentially if the JP name were to be "Taskmaster Toad", that could be concrete enough to call him the Toad. For the other Toads, the link to the Brigade is less clear-cut and I would argue that they're unrelated, considering they lack the distinct details (Blue Toad's glasses, Red Toad being Captain Toad) that have been consistent ever since. It may be that the Blue Toad is Blue Toad (character), distinct from the Hint Toad from the Brigade. For Green Toad/Banktoad, well, it's arbitrary since he has used a pickaxe before anyway. :::As far as I know, only the playable blue Toad is explicitly identified as "Toad" within the game, but given that the playable characters are likely just a reference to the New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe cast of characters (sans yellow) and the Super Mario 3D World Toad has been identified as "Blue Kinopio" at least once, I'd be interested to know if Story Mode's Blue Toad and the playable Toad share the same model data or how they're referred to internally by the developers since that's probably the closest we can gather to sort this out. == Create a page for Ground (block) ==
Settled TPP | |||
green | |||
So, here me out. Super Mario Maker series has brought us pages for Slopes and even Semisolid Platforms. The long awaited names for objects that have existed since the dawn of time. A notable addition to that collection is the Ground tile, which can also sometimes appear with background elements when placed. There is generally no reason not to cover it. The problem is, as noted by Archivist Toadette,
:"I think they're referring to the actual ground tiles from the editor. Not sure what to say, though, since that could potentially open up a can of worms to include every time natural ground appears in a game...unless, of course, we limit it to Super Mario Maker and Super Mario Maker 2."
So why not do just that. Create a page about Ground tiles in the Super Mario Maker series, and exclude everything else. We know what is considered Ground, the game clearly tells us what Ground tiles are. Trying to fit in content from past games into Semisolid Platform has proven difficult with its own edge cases, Ground will no doubt be even more problematic.
I propose three options:
# Ground receives its own page, only covering the tiles from the Super Mario Maker series and nothing else.
# Ground recieves its own page, only covering the tiles from the Super Mario Maker series with one exception: comparisons to tiles from past games are acceptable, as long as the tile has the same texture as the one from SMM. Example: it's OK to mention how Ground tiles in Super Mario Bros. act as bricks, rather than as indestructible blocks, because they have the same appearance in SMM. This option would imply Ground blocks' first appearance is in 1985.
# No change is made. | |||

Yeah, having an article for the Ground as it appears in Super Mario Maker and making notes as to where each of the tilesets came from isn't really too much of a stretch, especially since the ground tiles are probably a lot more impactful overall. It's a named thing in the Mario universe with its own distinct properties and differences across different games (and in Mario Maker's case, game styles, therefore this just makes sense. Though, we might need to move Ground over to something like Ground (theme), and make the article be Ground (block) or Ground (tile).

In the [[New Super Mario Bros. == Inconsistency with handling of SMB2 Mushroom and Superball Flower ==
So as we have it, SMB2 Mushroom is split from the standard Mushroom from Super Mario Bros. 2, but Superball Flower is merged to the standard Flower from Super Mario Land. These items are treated in SMM2 as roughly equivalent in their effects of changing the player character's style and moveset to be more like the basis game, so I think it would be better to either merge the SMB2 section of the Mushroom page to the SMB2 Mushroom's page, or to split Superball Flower from SML's Flower. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 16:41, June 12, 2024 (EDT)
:The SMB2 Mushroom is unlike the Mushroom from SMB2 as it changes Mario's form and abilities (note that SMB2 Mario is its own page), whereas the Superball Flower always turns Mario into the Superball Mario form (which is not split in two). I don't really see how this is an inconsistency, the situation of each item is different. 17:23, July 13, 2024 (EDT)
::SMM2, however, portrays them as being equivalent to each other, which is the point I'm trying to make. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 17:32, July 13, 2024 (EDT)
:::Still pretty different gameplay effects, though. One's a returning power-up and the other's brand new as a callback to an old game. I don't see a consistency issue, regardless of how the game portrays it. -- 17:41, July 13, 2024 (EDT)
::::To me, it still feels like the Mushroom from SMB2 could be moved to the SMB2 Mushroom page, since they deliberately use the same sprite and it is intended as "the mushroom from SMB2" even if the effect is different by necessity. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 19:14, July 13, 2024 (EDT)
:::::I agree with Doc, things can have different behaviors and still be the same thing. For example, Deep Cheeps swim toward the player in the NSMB games, but in SMM/SMM2, they don't. But they're the same enemy, right? Another example is the Fish Bone. They don't swim at you in Super Mario World, but that's changed in the NSMB games. 19:25, July 13, 2024 (EDT)
::::::Using your own example, Deep Cheeps look identical to the Green Cheep Cheeps used in the SMB and SMB3 styles, but are identified as separate enemies. Just because something uses the same appearance doesn't make it the same thing if they're not referred to by the same name.
::::::SMB2 Mushroom is a unique power-up identified with a unique name and that has a unique function. If we can split Mushroom, Dash Mushroom, and Super Mushroom, why on earth would we combine SMB2 Mushroom? 73.171.104.211 19:30, July 13, 2024 (EDT)
:::::::Because that would be splitting it more cleanly from the current mushroom page, just as we did with Dash Mushroom (that was introduced simply as "Mushroom" and was primarily called that most of its history)? Anyways, was the SMB2 mushroom ever treated as "brand new" to SMM2 in a way that the Superball Flower (itself not quite the same as the "Flower" from SML) wasn't? "Circus" Theme[edit]
Hello, and what a Moe-rvelous Mario Moe-ker 2 announcement we had today! Thanks for reading,MOSES THE MOE-EYE --Moe-Eye (talk) 21:13, 14 February 2019 (EST)
- I would actually say the theme falls under the Airship category. These stages were always in the sky, after all, and additionally, if one analyzes the footage closely, there's a slight bob to the camera completely unrelated to Mario's movement. This camera behavior is an infamous behavior for the Airship theme in the original game, so it seems much more likely to fall under that category. --MissingNumbers (talk) 13:54, 6 March 2019 (EST)
- You might be right, as a Moe-tter of fact. Thanks for the critique - and, yeah, good eye with the camera! Until June, MOSES THE MOE-EYE --Moe-Eye (talk) 21:51, April 20, 2019 (EDT)
- it is not confirmed if there will be a night theme for all we know there will be a day/night toggle Wild starfish (talk) 20:06, April 27, 2019 (EDT)
- You were right, Wild Starfish! What a prediction! I never would have predicted a smiling Moe-n would change things so Moe-ch! However... don't be Moe-staken. I never stated that there was absolutely definitely Moe-st indubitably a night theme... just like the Moe-jority, I was speculating. I never said there could be no night toggle. My entire paragraph up there Moe-tally emphasized the ambiguity around everything. I even said "there's no way of knowing"! So, under the extent of my knowledge, I believe it was a reasonable assumption. ... Anyway, the Direct has come, and so Moe-ch has come to (moon)light! This makes my point above seemingly Moe-t! So thanks for the thoughtful responses, and, well... wish me luck waiting for Super Mario Maker 2's release date! I might bust! ...then again, I think I am a bust. With feet. Chain-Link Uncertainty[edit]
The current listing on the page suggests that Chain-Links were added to the course creator, but the only object that most closely resembles it looks more like a semi-solid platform to me. It seems more likely that the Cat power-up has the ability to scale up semi-solid platforms as if they were walls. Does anyone have objections to this adjustment? --MissingNumbers (talk) 23:33, 14 February 2019 (EST)
- I'd say wait until we have more information regarding that. (T|C) 23:51, 14 February 2019 (EST)
- Wild starfish (talk) I'd add "uncertain", "possibly" or "unconfirmed" after the listing for chain-link
Coin Totals[edit]
I highly doubt that the "4/100" coin thing is the total amount of coins in the level. It is much more likely to be an objective, considering we can see the same number next to a "goal"-like symbol. So, it's probably the number of coins needed to beat the level. WarioLandGoldPiramid (talk) 12:21, 15 February 2019 (EST)
- Person who added the gameplay section here: I never stated in the article that it was the total amount of coins in the level, only "out of a specific number". Mario JC 08:12, 16 February 2019 (EST)
Colored pipes[edit]
While it's true that we can see a red pipe, both in the trailer and in the artwork, here's one thing worth mentioning: the red pipes seemed to be generating enemies more frequently than a green pipe would. So, it is possible that green and red are the only available colors, and that it's only meant for choosing the speed of generating enemies. WarioLandGoldPiramid (talk) 12:21, 15 February 2019 (EST)
- It's also possible you could set the rate of generating enemies yourself, and the color not having anything to do with it and just being a cosmetic choice. Though I do think we should list the colors that have been shown instead of assuming there will be "various colors". Mario JC 08:12, 16 February 2019 (EST)

Castle Theme returning?[edit]
Since the Castle Theme isn't shown in the Nintendo Direct, will it make a return to the sequal? MarioGamerFan24 (talk) 14:49, 19 February 2019 (EST)
- There were a lot of things from the first Mario Maker that they didn't show in the trailer. Being a series staple, I'm sure the castle theme will return. Mario JC 18:51, 19 February 2019 (EST)
- I'm actually scared now that a "Sky" theme was introduced, the GameXplain video I showed you has the possibility of only 10 course themes. meaning that the Castle theme might be abandoned, which is very controversial. But then again, there could be more than 10. DatGoodHomie (talk) 12:03, April 30, 2019 (EDT)DatGoodHomie

Playing as other characters[edit]
With Super Mario 3d World where Mario was not the only playable character but with Luigi Peach and Rosalina, is there anything that says Luigi and others will be playable as well?--TheGreenBeetle (talk) 14:18, 23 February 2019 (EST)
- Nothing has been currently said on wether or not the game will support multiplayer. Doomhiker (talk) 14:21, 23 February 2019 (EST)
- Ok, but its not just multiplayer, I asked if something said anything about P1 playing as other characters other than Mario in their map packs.--TheGreenBeetle (talk) 20:13, 23 February 2019 (EST)
- Nothing has been said about playing as other characters either, even as a single player. Doomhiker (talk) 21:11, 23 February 2019 (EST)
- Techincally, nothing has been confirmed, but it's a safe assumption that at least Luigi's gonna be playable. After all, he has his builder outfit rockin' and the promo art shows Mario dumping Cat Luigi in the level. Of course, we'll still need it confirmed before adding it, even if it's a foregone conclusion.

"Bell Trees"[edit]
Aren't these called Beanpoles? I wanted to make this on the talk page of the object's page, but it wouldn't allow me to. My family has always called them Beanpoles, which I had always assumed was the official name, but I guess came from Mount Beanpole. Given Mt. Beanpole's sheer amount of these trees, however, I'd say it's a more logical name than just calling it a "Bell Tree". The name we have currently is conjectural, so i don't see a problem with changing to a more logical conjectural name. Although, hey, maybe I'm wrong. But I personally just think Beanpole is better than just "Bell Tree". 72.133.91.93 16:10, 23 February 2019 (EST)Blueflame105
- This was already talked about in a discussion on this talk page. Doomhiker (talk) 16:12, 23 February 2019 (EST)
- Anyways, it was decided that "beanpole" most likely referred to the mountain's shape, as "beanpole" is a slang for a tall and skinny person, and matches up fairly well with the Japanese name for the level. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 16:16, 23 February 2019 (EST)
Suprised nobody noticed this[edit]
There was a small change visible as early as the first frame of gameplay. As pointed out here, they got rid of the ground break seperating the starting platform and the rest of the level from Super Mario 1, so that should probably be noted somewhere. (And good fucking riddance, too, that thing always looked weird). A few other changes noticed here too (the camera may be one block higher, but we should probably wait for more gameplay before adding that.)

Charts[edit]
Should we have a chart for the course elements? One column could have the name, then next 5 could have the icons of the items in each game style (Elements that don't appear in a certain game style could be marked N/A; any confirmed item that hasn't had its icon shown can use a picture from gameplay or the artwork poster as a placeholder), then the last column could be for Notes (like "Alternate form of Piranha Plant", "Become Jumping Piranha Plants in the Super Mario World style", or "Can be placed in foreground or background." etc.) Should we go with this? PrPro03 (talk) 09:54, March 24, 2019 (EDT)Prpro=03
I'm not sure if the current filling in of the chart is a good idea. SMM didn't typically have the same palettes to the originals (though admittedly SMB and SMB3's palettes irl depended on TV specifications), so there's nothing proving so far that the graphics in this game will have the same palettes as in SMM, potentially leaving them inaccurate after launch. Wings and Parachutes as modifiers[edit]
Currently, Wings and Parachutes are in the currently uncategorized section. However, it is shown that they are applied to objects using a menu outside of the grouped wheels. Should they be moved to a section for modifiers? Additionally, modifiers could include the Super Mushroom and Fire Flower as the Piranha Plant in Super Mario 3D World showed both. B700465189a9 (talk) 10:34, April 20, 2019 (EDT)
- actually it's the fire piranha plant that you could get by shaking a piranha plant and not by giving it a fire flower and I find it unlikely that all enemies (except lakitu because you couldn't make it big with a mushroom) would get a fire form Wild starfish (talk) 20:12, April 27, 2019 (EDT)
- Shaking doesn't appear in Super Mario Maker 2. Additionally, it seems that the large modifier is achieved through the new menu rather than via Super Mushroom and I jumped to conclusions by saying that the Fire Flower or fire in general was a modifier, as it was on the first row which seems to be for alternate forms. Also, if I remember correctly, not all objects could get Wings in the original Super Mario Maker. B700465189a9 (talk) 15:21, April 29, 2019 (EDT)
New content shown in japanese trailer by gamexplain[edit]
The wiki should be updated with the new stuff shown in the japanese super mario maker 2 trailer updloaded by gamexplain. Disagreement on level inspiration for 3D World Themes[edit]
(I'm new to the Super Mario Wiki Community So I have no idea who or how to tag)

Checkpoint Flag Update[edit]
As noted in this video from a hands-on preview of the game, Checkpoint Flags are not as limited as it first seemed. A pre-made level used a Checkpoint Flag that provided a Super Star. So it seems that the flag can now provide any power-up or no power-up when crossed. Should this be noted on the page? --MissingNumbers (talk) 10:24, May 28, 2019 (EDT)
Some images to help with organising the course elements section[edit]

Level inspiration for other game styles[edit]
Should we add the level inspiration for the other game styles, and not only have Super Mario 3D World? Take Super Mario World for example, as the game didn't had any desert levels, but the desert theme is based on the levels seen in Chocolate Island. I believe we should write that on the article. --MatiasNTRM (talk) 13:59, June 2, 2019 (EDT)
Airship theme's night version effects[edit]
- I recently came across a video that showed a Thwomp at the night airship theme; [2]. It descended at a slower rate than normal, but I'm not sure if this is unique to the night airship theme or not. M&SG (talk) 11:25, June 3, 2019 (EDT)
- Enemies in the airship night theme act as if they would under water, while Mario's physics remain the same. It's like an inverse of the night castle theme.--Derailed Just1RandomGuy (talk) 23:18, June 12, 2019 (EDT)
Start point length change[edit]
- I don't know why this hasn't been mentioned in the article yet, but based on the video footage that we have right now (such as in this video), the start point length for a course has been increased from 5 tiles long, to 7 tiles long. Alleged 3D World reference[edit]
The references section lists 3D World as a reference for the recolour of the Galoombas; however, this seems to be based more on their artwork at the time.
I believe the darker colour on their head, as well as their green coloured shoes, originate from the official artwork, which was also the basis of their appearance in 3D World; as such, it is not a reference to 3D World as much as simply a more correct sprite. Master Clyde Super (talk) 10:19, July 9, 2019 (EDT)
- It also appears in Super Mario Maker. And also, they're not shoes, they're feet. -- FanOfYoshi 10:21, July 9, 2019 (EDT)
Fictionalized Course Makers in Story Mode[edit]
- This is probably best mentioned in the characters' respective pages. So, on Bowser's page, in the SMM2 section, you can add a note about how he appears to be Father of Name Withheld based on their speech pattern. MarioComix (talk) 15:27, July 11, 2019 (EDT)

Course Uploads and Medals[edit]
- I know that by default, a player can upload up to 32 courses, but does anyone know if acquiring medals can increase a player's upload limit or not? M&SG (talk) 08:52, July 12, 2019 (EDT)
- First of all, there aren't medals (at least as they were in the first game), and second, no, I haven't heard of anyone expanding that limit. JoeRunner (talk and stuff) 20:24, July 14, 2019 (EDT)
- So it's probably safe to assume that the upload limit can't be increased? That sure sounds like a downgrade when compared to the first Super Mario Maker. M&SG (talk) 17:07, July 15, 2019 (EDT)
Toads in Story Mode[edit]
- It's hard to say, I think it would depend on the Japanese name of Taskmaster. MarioComix (talk) 05:33, July 14, 2019 (EDT)
- So, the Yellow Toad is still very likely to be the same one from the Toad Brigade? MarioManiac1981 (talk) 12:35, July 14, 2019 (EST)
- As far as I know, only the playable blue Toad is explicitly identified as "Toad" within the game, but given that the playable characters are likely just a reference to the New Super Mario Bros. LinkTheLefty (talk) 13:01, July 14, 2019 (EDT)

misplaced differnce[edit]
Shouldn't "Snake Blocks in multiplayer require one player to activate rather than having to wait for other players to step on them." be in the "New Super Mario Bros. There's a small problem with the controls section: the page doesn't mention that (in the default control setting for playing levels) the "A" button makes Mario [or the character] Jump and "X" makes him/her Attack (or Dash/Grabbing Objects) along with "B" and "Y", respectively. This was just a detail, I only wanted to mention it. Anyway, I wish that anyone adds this detail.

- It should really be removed altogether; that information should be on Moon (Super Mario Maker 2). Mario JC 09:04, April 21, 2020 (EDT)
SMB2 Mushroom[edit]
Don't see this mentioned. The SMB2 mushroom will match your jumps in the night ground theme, hopping into the air whenever you jump. Wariobwario (talk) 07:48, April 23, 2020 (EDT)
Minor change[edit]
In the section "World Maker, Themes", Forest of Illusion isn't linked. I can't edit this section because I'am not autoconfirmed user. Lautaro 97 (talk) 18:53, July 10, 2020 (EDT) PD: sorry for my English, I'm Spanish speaker.
- Looks like it's already linked. 18:55, July 10, 2020 (EDT)
- Alex95 You're right. I just saw again and confirmed that it was linked. Sorry for the inconvenience. Lautaro 97 (talk) 19:00, July 10, 2020 (EDT)
Split?[edit]
Why isn't Ninji Speedruns a different page? --DarkNight 21:05, July 29, 2020 (EDT)
Ninji Speedruns translations[edit]
The "names in other languages" section for Ninji Speedruns is lacking a few languages. For example, it's called "Contre-la-montre des Ninjis" ("Ninjis' Time Trial") in French. NokiDoki (talk)
- I guess you can wait until you're autoconfirmed, but you can specify the others. --DarkNight 20:13, September 1, 2020 (EDT)
Added NOA Spanish names for the Ninji Speedruns mode as well as each of its levels. I will go through later and check to see if the NOE translations differ. --The Eggo55 (talk) 21:22, October 2, 2021 (EDT)
SMB Deluxe Luigi sprite on Japanese flyer[edit]
A pre-release flyer in Japan for Super Mario Maker 2 has Super Luigi’s sprite from Super Mario Bros. Deluxe.[1] I’m putting it here because I wasn’t sure where to put it in the article. Yours truly, Princess Toadstoo-- I mean NintendoFan08. 08:15, December 24, 2022 (EST)
Create a page for Ground (block)[edit]
This talk page proposal has already been settled. Please do not edit any of the sections in the proposal. If you wish to discuss the article, do so in a new header below the proposal. |
Create article with comparisons 0-4-0
So, here me out. Super Mario Maker series has brought us pages for Slopes and even Semisolid Platforms. The long awaited names for objects that have existed since the dawn of time. A notable addition to that collection is the Ground tile, which can also sometimes appear with background elements when placed. There is generally no reason not to cover it. The problem is, as noted by Archivist Toadette,
- "I think they're referring to the actual ground tiles from the editor.
- Ground receives its own page, only covering the tiles from the Super Mario Maker series and nothing else.
- Ground recieves its own page, only covering the tiles from the Super Mario Maker series with one exception: comparisons to tiles from past games are acceptable, as long as the tile has the same texture as the one from SMM. Example: it's OK to mention how Ground tiles in Super Mario Bros. act as bricks, rather than as indestructible blocks, because they have the same appearance in SMM. This option would imply Ground blocks' first appearance is in 1985.
- No change is made.

Super Mario Maker only[edit]
Comparisons are fine[edit]
- Spectrogram (talk) Per proposal.
- Killer Moth (talk) Per proposal. Your reasoning makes sense and I am honestly surprised that there isn't a page yet for this.
- Camwood777 (talk) - If we have articles covering things as seemingly trivial as those decorative horsetail-like "trees" from SMB1, just because there happens to be an actual Horsetail item in TTYD and SPM and someone evidently figured they might as well catalog those, when those plants serve strictly as decoration in SMB1 and can't even be interacted with...
- Yoshi the SSM (talk) Per proposal.
No thanks[edit]
Comments[edit]
I don't see what's inherently wrong with option two, but I'm waiting to see if there's other input first. I do think that, should the proposal pass, "Ground" should be the name of the article, and the current Ground article should be moved to "Ground (level)". LinkTheLefty (talk) 15:34, March 28, 2023 (EDT)
Apparently Ground tiles in Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Tipping Stars level editor are also called "Ground". Spectrogram (talk) 08:22, April 4, 2023 (EDT)
Ghost House background in New Super Mario Bros. U[edit]
In the New Super Mario Bros. U style for making levels, the Ghost House theme looks like the background of many Ghost House levels from the original game, which is the one with windows, but there was one occasion where I saw the background of this theme be the one from the Which-Way Labyrinth stage from Soda Jungle. Has this ever been changed or reverted? C11P (talk • contributions) 04:00, June 1, 2024 (EDT)
Inconsistency with handling of SMB2 Mushroom and Superball Flower[edit]
- The SMB2 Mushroom is unlike the Mushroom from SMB2 as it changes Mario's form and abilities (note that SMB2 Mario is its own page), whereas the Superball Flower always turns Mario into the Superball Mario form (which is not split in two). I don't really see how this is an inconsistency, the situation of each item is different. Hewer (talk · contributions · edit count) 17:23, July 13, 2024 (EDT)
- SMM2, however, portrays them as being equivalent to each other, which is the point I'm trying to make. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 17:32, July 13, 2024 (EDT)
- Still pretty different gameplay effects, though. One's a returning power-up and the other's brand new as a callback to an old game. I don't see a consistency issue, regardless of how the game portrays it. -- Too Bad! Waluigi Time! 17:41, July 13, 2024 (EDT)
- To me, it still feels like the Mushroom from SMB2 could be moved to the SMB2 Mushroom page, since they deliberately use the same sprite and it is intended as "the mushroom from SMB2" even if the effect is different by necessity. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 19:14, July 13, 2024 (EDT)
- I agree with Doc, things can have different behaviors and still be the same thing. For example, Deep Cheeps swim toward the player in the NSMB games, but in SMM/SMM2, they don't. But they're the same enemy, right? Another example is the Fish Bone. They don't swim at you in Super Mario World, but that's changed in the NSMB games. This is me, D-B-B! 19:25, July 13, 2024 (EDT)
- Using your own example, Deep Cheeps look identical to the Green Cheep Cheeps used in the SMB and SMB3 styles, but are identified as separate enemies. Just because something uses the same appearance doesn't make it the same thing if they're not referred to by the same name.
- SMB2 Mushroom is a unique power-up identified with a unique name and that has a unique function. If we can split Mushroom, Dash Mushroom, and Super Mushroom, why on earth would we combine SMB2 Mushroom? 73.171.104.211 19:30, July 13, 2024 (EDT)
- Because that would be splitting it more cleanly from the current mushroom page, just as we did with Dash Mushroom (that was introduced simply as "Mushroom" and was primarily called that most of its history)? Anyways, was the SMB2 mushroom ever treated as "brand new" to SMM2 in a way that the Superball Flower (itself not quite the same as the "Flower" from SML) wasn't? Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 19:32, July 13, 2024 (EDT)
- I think the closest is this trailer that labels it as "New", but that's for everything new to the 3.0.0 update. If nothing states otherwise, I support merging Super Mario Bros. 2 mushroom with SMB2 Mushroom. LinkTheLefty (talk) 21:07, July 14, 2024 (EDT)
- For context, I know Super Mario Maker 2 calls the name of objects and enemies when they are placed in the environment. Does it refer to these fish as "Deep Cheeps" or "Green Cheep Cheeps" when they are placed? - Nintendo101 (talk) 19:52, July 13, 2024 (EDT)
- It says "Cheep Cheep" in every style (including SMW and NSMBU), which is why I've historically wanted to merge all those green fish in SMM/2 to Cheep Cheep, while saying they borrowed designs. It's different, though, as the mushroom case was unique to one specific style. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 20:03, July 13, 2024 (EDT)
- That's what I was suspecting. If it chases the player character, it is a true Deep Cheep. If it does not, it is a green-colored Cheep Cheep. Superficially similar, but not the same thing. - Nintendo101 (talk) 20:06, July 13, 2024 (EDT)
- Each time I proposed that merge, though, it's failed. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 20:36, July 13, 2024 (EDT)
- I think I've actually started to agree more with that merge since last time. Hewer (talk · contributions · edit count) 06:38, July 14, 2024 (EDT)

- I feel like this is more of a Green Pokey case, where it's based on an old design of something, yet is still a separate thing. Also, how would SMB2 Mario be handled if the mushrooms were merged? Hewer (talk · contributions · edit count) 06:38, July 14, 2024 (EDT)
- I assume similarly to the Super Leaf and Ice Flower's power ups. Blinker (talk) 11:21, July 14, 2024 (EDT)
- Same way Tanooki Mario is despite different games using different items. (Also note Green Pokey was called just "Pokey" in SS - where Tower Power Pokey is essentially a hybrid of their designs, while CS also gave color identifiers to the Shy Guys we do merge.) Also note how Fire Flower has had different effects throughout the individual Paper Mario games, for example, even more different than these. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 11:22, July 14, 2024 (EDT)

Logic gates and operators for Super Mario maker computers[edit]
Using a variety of pieces, you can use a combination of global loading techniques and global actuators (ie. On/Off block and P Switch) to create functional, programmable logic gates. These are some examples of what easily integratable logic gates looks like.
