I think {{user|Doc von Schmeltwick}} first made the suggestion (if not, it was definitely not my idea), and I'm inclined to agree. I'm well aware of the Unchained Chomp quote, but I haven't come across it or just don't remember it in the Wii U version, and I know more text was added to the Nintendo 3DS version such as a line mentioning Big Goombas. If it is in the Wii U version, I can possibly see if the Japanese version would show a better indication. At any rate, with ''Super Mario Maker 2'' coming soon and more clearly labeling the in-game objects, we'll probably have a definitive answer on whether or not the stump-less Chain Chomps are indeed meant to be Unchained Chomps soon enough. Also, as far as I can tell Doc was only against this being included on the [[Chomp]] page and actually agreed with the ones in SMM being names as such. So maybe you misremembered his statement? :All right, I checked ''Super Mario Maker'', and I see that the Chain Chomp breaking free in ''Super Mario Bros. 3'' style does go into roughly the same behavior as the alternate placeable Chain Chomp (as opposed to the actual ''Super Mario Bros. 3'', where it's much more frantic when it bursts out). So for all intents and purposes, both are the same and thus probably what the game refers to as Unchained Chomp. However, the vocalization should be noted somewhere because, unlike the Deep Cheep and Blurp examples, the game is inconsistent. I think Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) first made the suggestion (if not, it was definitely not my idea), and I'm inclined to agree. At any rate, with Super Mario Maker 2 coming soon and more clearly labeling the in-game objects, we'll probably have a definitive answer on whether or not the stump-less Chain Chomps are indeed meant to be Unchained Chomps soon enough. - It is definetly in the Wii U version, because I do not have the 3DS one. Either way, there is a definitive source that refers to them as Unchained Chomps and I've seen a few other people agree with this notion (i.e it was listed as Unchained Chomp before you changed it). Given there is a source I feel it's correct to list them as such and I'll even add the source to the SMM if you won't immediately revert it.
- “Should that name really be on here? It seems to apply more for Chain Chomps that have broken free yet still trail their Chains behind them (like in SMB3, Sunshine, SM64DS, and the NSMB games), as that's how it additionally works in SMM, while this article covers Chomps that lack a Chain entirely.”
