With the release of the Minecraft: Nintendo Switch Edition, it seems very unsettling that the page title still only acknowledges the Wii U Edition, that's why I'm proposing to simply move this page to be titled simply as Minecraft, with no specification of the platform edition in the title. We should treat both versions equally, because, in a sense, the Switch Edition is not a port of the Wii U Edition... well, it kinda is, but in the case for Minecraft, all versions are just ports of the original PC version. This neutrality is to assure the Switch Edition gets a proper treatment, if we take look at the infobox at the beginning, there is little mention of the Switch Edition aside from the platform spot (which looks misleading saying that Minecraft: Wii U Edition is the version available on Nintendo Switch), no one has added its release date, the media or the control input.

So, Minecraft means the game in general. Simply call the title "Minecraft" will cause readers confusion between editions. I think that it should be renamed to be Minecraft: Wii U / Switch / 3DS / Bedrock Edition or something similar. --HaydenKenMutthew (talk) 10:43, 19 July 2018 (EDT)

I think there should be articles for a lot of Minecraft stuff.
I think there should be articles for a lot of Minecraft stuff. Since the Minecraft Nintendo versions have Mario characters, it means that the Minecraft series are now Mario games, and I think the characters and a lot of other stuff except for Steve because he has his own article, should have their own separate articles.
I also think that all of the Bowser's Fury cat enemies should have their own separate articles because Cat Goofball and Meowser do. I also had wondered what would the cat enemies would look like until they were shown. 107.146.244.150 22:00, June 22, 2021 (EDT)

ScratchCat5754 I've been doing a lot of work on the Minecraft page because I have the mash-up pack on my Switch at home. == Which things should have renders, which one shouldn't, and what should I do with them? ==
I am making the renders on the page, and I want to know what should include on this page, since I thought that making renders of blocks that shar the same textures of their "normal" counterparts could be unnecesary, like the stairs or the slabs. But I don't know, what should I do?
If the answer is that no, I shouldn't make renders of blocks like that, since the only change is the model, then, should I make them anyways and put them in the gallery? That would be useful or only a waste of time? Because I could do it, but I need to know what do you think before I start doing something like that.
And also, making renders of every block, like I am doing it right now, it is okay? Because I am reflecting the blocks as they are in the creative menu of Bedrock Edition, but I don't know if I am wasting too much space. I was thinking on the posibility of you considering maybe making a different page of Minecraft called "Super Mario Mash-Up", where the renders could be, without overloading the page with images, or should I just put them all in the gallery, I like the gallery, but in the gallery I cant specify which thing is which as easily as I would like, somebody could help me with this? I could still make the renders, but I feel a little lost since I am making this all alone.
Also, the table that compares minecraft mobs with their Mario counterparts, I don't know why some of them, despite I think I am trying to make it look good, mostly looks inconsistent with the sizes, I need help with that too. failed
Aside from noting how the main game features Super Mario references (i.e. the Donkey Kong painting that shows 100m) and mentioning the appearance of Steve and Minecraft World in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the current page on Minecraft mostly serves as a pseudo-Super Mario Mash-Up Pack page. The majority of the page currently focuses on showcasing the differences between the main mode of Minecraft and its Super Mario Mash-Up Pack incarnation. Because of this, I do not think the full game itself deserves a page, as it only has a handful of minor references to the Super Mario franchise, in a similar manner to the Super Mario references in Evoland, with the main difference being the fact that Minecraft contains explicit Super Mario references, while Evoland contains many different Super Mario look-alike-style references. The game itself (Minecraft) currently gets the first paragraph or so of its page, with the rest of the page being devoted to the Super Mario Mash-Up Pack, minus a paragraph or two regarding version differences and unused content that also mentions the Super Mario Mash-Up Pack. The Super Mario references in Minecraft are also already on the list of references in third-party video games, mostly negating the need for a full page on Minecraft. Because of this, I think the following things should be done.
*Delete this page and split the Super Mario Mash-Up Pack/Remove content pertaining to the main mode in Minecraft and move the page to Super Mario Mash-Up Pack

Delete Minecraft and split Super Mario Mash-Up Pack
#Nelsonic Per proposal.
Split Super Mario Mash-Up Pack content, do not delete Minecraft
Delete Minecraft and split both the Super Mario Mash-Up Pack and the Super Mario-themed map it comes with
Do nothing
#Waluigi Time Doing this would mean the wiki no longer classifies Minecraft as a guest appearance, despite having a Nintendo-sanctioned add-on that reskins virtually the entire game to be Mario-themed (plus a whole Mario-themed map - I'm not very familiar with how these versions of Minecraft work but can't you still play the map without actively using the pack?). That's a lot more than some of the other games we consider guest appearances can say, and there's not really a compelling argument to change that. Right now the page is doing its job of showing all the relevant Mario content in the game.
#Camwoodstock Per Waluigi Time, but also given we have an imminent proposal that seeks to change how we handle crossover content, and would require a Minecraft article anyways... Yeah, we can't say we're endeared.
#Rykitu Per all.
#Hewer This strikes me as a rather pointless and confusing change. It's a page about all the relevance that Minecraft has to the Super Mario franchise, which naturally consists mostly of the mash-up pack.
#Pizza Master Per all.
#PopitTart Minecraft is a game that allows you to straight up play as Mario, Yoshi, Luigi, Peach, and MANY others, as officially licensed by Nintendo. I don't see what that doesn't warrant a page.
#Killer Moth Per all.
#PrincessPeachFan Per all.
#LadySophie17 Per all.
<s>WingedBoomBoom Per all.</s>
Comments
:@Waluigi Time True, but in this case, couldn't we just additionally split the map? While I agree that Minecraft does have a substantial amount of Super Mario content, it is confined to the aforementioned map and a texture pack. Other than that, the main game's Super Mario content is already covered on the list of references in third-party video games. ==Reorganize and reduce the Mobs section==
TPP
The Mobs section in the main page of the Minecraft article is currently extremely thorough and extremely long due to that. Images are all placed in a table with two columns, with the original mob on one side and the Super Mario version on the other. While this is informative, it also locks the table into only displaying one type of mob per row, and with over a hundred separate mobs, it becomes quite lengthy, with over half the total page length being dedicated to these two-columns tables.
I believe this is an issue for two reasons. Firstly, it diminishes the use of the game's gallery page. Many mobs on this table have alternate versions that are simply recolored versions of Super Mario creatures (Piantas), recolored versions of Super Mario creatures that don't exist (Splounders) or even generic colored creatures that are hardly equivalent to any one specific Super Mario creature (Parrots). These are superfluous in showing what the mob looks like and should be moved to the gallery, which already has extra versions of other mobs (babies, sheep colors, villager jobs, etc). This way, the table can focus on only showing each mob's general appearance, minor color/expression differences aside. Additionally, I believe having such a lengthy table makes the page clunkier to navigate. A user just browsing the page, without using a Search function or the Table of Contents has to scroll through this gigantic table that is effectively a gallery before finding other content.
To fix this I propose two changes:
The first change is to convert all tables into galleries. This allows each row to display up to 10 images at once, drastically reducing the overall length of the table. They would resemble this format:
<gallery>
Minecraft Allay.gif|Allay (Minecraft)
Minecraft Mario Mash-Up Allay Render.gif|Allay (Green Sprixie Princess)
Minecraft Armadillo.png|Armadillo (Minecraft)

Minecraft Axolotl Lucy.png|Lucy Axolotl (Minecraft)
Minecraft Mario Mash-Up Axolotl Render Lucy.png|Lucy Axolotl (Splounder)
Minecraft Axolotl Wild.png|Wild Axolotl (Minecraft)

Minecraft Axolotl Gold.png|Gold Axolotl (Minecraft)

Minecraft Axolotl Cyan.png|Cyan Axolotl (Minecraft)
Minecraft Mario Mash-Up Axolotl Render Cyan.png|Cyan Axolotl (Green Splounder)
Minecraft Axolotl Blue.png|Blue Axolotl (Minecraft)

Minecraft Cat Tabby.png|Tabby Cat (Minecraft)
Minecraft Mario Mash-Up Tabby Cat Render.png|Tabby Cat (Lucky Cat Mario)
</gallery>
The second change is to remove from the main page minor variations of mob appearances. Like colored sheep, if anyone wants to see what every single color, expression or even animations of a mob looks like, they should check the gallery. The main page should only illustrate what it generally looks like, and which Super Mario creature/character it is based on, if any. Choosing which of the images to keep and which to cut is difficult, so I am turning it into a poll proposal, alongside the first option to rework the table into a gallery.
Proposer: LadySophie17
Rework the table into a gallery
Deadline: April 9, 2025, 23:59 GMT
;Support
#LadySophie17 Per proposal.
#Waluigi Time Yes please, the old gallery setup was a much more efficient use of space.
#Camwoodstock We'd have to mull over the other options, but for now, we will say that this is long overdue.
;Oppose
Remove default Minecraft mobs from the table/gallery
Including this option to simply remove the default textures for the Minecraft mobs from the main page gallery. Voting for this option invalidates the need for a table, but I'm keeping it separate from the poll above if anyone would like to keep the comparisons in the main page galleries anyway.
Deadline: April 9, 2025, 23:59 GMT
;Support
#Sparks With all of these default Minecraft textures, the page becomes even more massive, causing severe lag/loading issues for everyone. I'd rather for just the Super Mario franchise-specific ones to stay, as they are relevant to the wiki. The default ones only clutter the page in my view.
;Oppose
#LadySophie17 I think it is interesting to have comparisons between what each mob looks like and what they originally were, especially when these textures quite frequently break these textures, such as Goombas missing chicken heads, or Reznors missing the top half of each of Ravager's legs.
Cut axolotl variations
Deadline: April 9, 2025, 23:59 GMT
;Keep one
#LadySophie17 I suggest the first one (Lucy). It is the regular Splounder appearance.
;Keep all
#Waluigi Time In the interest of accurately representing the mashup pack, I feel that it's mostly irrelevant if a given texture is arguably generic or doesn't have an exact counterpart in other Mario games. Alternate textures are an important art of these mobs and should be displayed on the main page.
Cut cat variations
Because some seem to be colored after Cat forms, I am presenting a third option.

#Waluigi Time Per me above. Jellie can be removed though, since it's not retextured in the pack. It's only part of it on the same technicality that anything from updates they haven't gotten to retexturing is.

I think we can take this one step further. The original mob textures, while they may be of some interest to someone who has never engaged with Minecraft before, feel out of scope when the section in general is about the mashup pack. I'm skeptical if we need them at all, but at least clearing them off the main page would do wonders for the size of the gallery (moreso than trimming a handful of texture variants). Can we have an option to do that as well? -- 13:03, March 26, 2025 (EDT)

Images[edit]

I've been uploading an assortment of Minecraft images on Postimg (imgur doesn't play nice with the Wii U's browser). I was planning on uploading them to the wiki in large batches once I took every single image I could, but everyone is free to upload them early, if they'd like: 2D Sprites, 3D Models, Landmarks, Mobs, Skins, and Miscellaneous. I have other galleries for Blocks, Items, and Paintings, but they don't have nearly enough images at the moment. Hello, I'm Time Turner. 23:28, 23 November 2016 (EST)

Just create a temporary userpage or use MarioWiki:Sandbox that creates red file links. Naming is not a problem and uploading to Imgur is bypassed as you upload directly to MarioWiki. I use the red file link trick all the time. The screenshots from the Wii U directly are always JPEG. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 23:34, 23 November 2016 (EST)
Meh. I prefer doing all of the set-up outside of the wiki and only bothering this place once everything's ready. Hello, I'm Time Turner. 23:37, 23 November 2016 (EST)
Also, there is a risk of quality degradation. Facebook using 3DS Image Share is notorious for this, especially with a previous version of File:SM3DL Tapped Icon.png uploaded by Alex95 (talk). --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 23:56, 23 November 2016 (EST)

Rename Minecraft: Wii U Edition to simply Minecraft.[edit]

Brown Block This talk page proposal has already been settled. Please do not edit this section or its subsections. If you wish to discuss the article, please do so in a new section below the proposal.

rename 19-1

Support[edit]

 1. Byllant (talk) - Per my proposal.
 2. Baby Luigi (talk) Per proposal. It would be redundant to have two separate articles on what is pretty much the exact same game with the exact same content (as mentioned in the beginning statement in the article, not even ports of games we have on this wiki are this similar and chances are, if they are that similar, they should be on the same article). Redirects can easily function and do their job here should users search for their specific version.
 3. Niiue (talk) Per all.
 4. Mario jc (talk) Definitely needs a rename. Per all.
 5. TheFlameChomp (talk) Per all.
 6. Yoshi the SSM (talk) Though I think "Super Mario Mash-Up Pack" would be better because that is what the article is about. But, since it was released after Minecraft: Wii U Edition, that date is not in line with when Minecraft came to Nintendo systems. So, Minecraft works best. Also, please note that we must keep the Wikipedia link in the intro, as many people do not know what is Minecraft and this doesn't explain it and it can't explain it because it isn't part of the Mario franchise. Just the Super Mario Mash-Up Pack and the references to Mario.
 7. Tails777 (talk) Per all.
 8. Alex95 (talk) I was thinking about making this proposal myself at some point. Per all.

 10. SuperYoshi1234 (talk) Per all.
 11. BBQ Turtle (talk) Per all, renaming it makes the most sense, and would also allow for any future releases of Minecraft with the Super Mario Mash-Up Pack too.
 12. Toadette the Achiever (talk) Per Byllant in the comments. Usually, for crossover articles, we provide brief coverage on the subject, then talk in-depth about how it relates to Mario. It also makes sense to move the article, since there is no particular name for either Nintendo version of Minecraft.
 13. Goomba nr.34 (talk) per proposal
 14. Rimigafob (talk) Good idea! Per all.
 15. Whitey (talk) I wanted to start this sooner but I forgot my login. I finally remembered it. Per all.

 18. SuperYoshiBros (talk) Per all.
 19. WaluigiWahrior (talk) Per Proposal, this really should happen if Minecraft is going to appear on all future Nintendo Platforms as well as Wii U and Switch.

Oppose[edit]

 1. Digibutter (talk) - I believe that Minecraft: Wii U / Nintendo Switch Edition would be a better title, like the title given to Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U. The generic "Minecraft" title implies that it is also referring to versions on non-Nintendo consoles.

Comments[edit]

To give out a better idea for this rename, this is how I suggest the main paragraph to be written:

Minecraft is a sandbox video game released by Mojang AB and 4J Studios originally for Microsoft Windows that features a blocky aesthetic centered around gathering resources to survive, exploring the randomly generated terrain, and creating worlds and sculptures using a variety of colorful blocks and tools, though the objective is largely based on the player's direction. A port called Minecraft Wii U Edition was originally released for the Wii U Nintendo eShop on December 17, 2015, and later released with a physical edition on May 17, 2016. Another port called Minecraft: Nintendo Switch Edition was released on the Nintendo Switch Nintendo eShop on May 11, 2017. Both editions feature an exclusive Super Mario Mash-Up Pack, in addition to the original references to the Mario franchise found in the original PC version, such as a painting featuring 100m from Donkey Kong (which was based on a painting by Kristoffer Zetterstrand). Aside from the different console (and thus, different controls) and an increased map size on the Nintendo Switch Edition, both editions are otherwise identical games.

Since this is a talk page proposal, it should run for two weeks, not one, so the deadline should be May 31. Wolf Link costume pose in Super Mario Maker Mario JC 05:52, 17 May 2017 (EDT)

Mincraft should probably be Minecraft and Super Mario Mash-Up Pack should be Super Mario Mash-Up Pack (with a redirect), as that's really the only thing we're covering. We're not covering the entirety of Minecraft itself, just the Super Mario related content. Users will probably touch it up once the article is merged anyway :)
@Digibutter - Considering we're on the "Super Mario Wiki", I don't think people are going to be that confused. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 23:02, 18 May 2017 (EDT)
In fact, I hate that title (along with wondering why we cover all aspects of Smash rather than Mario-related aspects, but that's a discussion for a different part of MarioWiki). Although Nintendo doesn't recognize Super Smash Bros. 4, that is a better title to type out and doesn't accidentally create a subpage. It feels like it should be a disambiguation page to avoid violations of MarioWiki:Once and only once. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 00:18, 19 May 2017 (EDT)

Rename the article from Minecraft to a better title.[edit]

don't rename 0-9
Hi, I actually edits the Official Minecraft Wiki very frequently, started about 11 months ago, under the name "HaydenBobMutthew". So I am very experienced with Minecraft and so I know that Minecraft have a few editions. According to the wiki, the following table summarises the editions and whether this edition have Super Mario Mash-up Pack or not.

Edition Super Mario Mash-up pack included?
Java Edition No
Bedrock Edition Partial (Nintendo Switch Only, unavailable on the Marketplace, unusable in Cross Platform multiplayer, due to licensing restrictions)
Legacy Console Edition Partial (Wii U Edition and Nintendo Switch Edition Only)
New Nintendo 3DS Edition Yes
Education Edition No

So, Minecraft means the game in general. Simply call the title "Minecraft" will cause readers confusion between editions. I think that it should be renamed to be Minecraft: Wii U / Switch / 3DS / Bedrock Edition or something similar. --HaydenKenMutthew (talk) 10:43, 19 July 2018 (EDT)

I think there should be articles for a lot of Minecraft stuff.[edit]

I think there should be articles for a lot of Minecraft stuff. Since the Minecraft Nintendo versions have Mario characters, it means that the Minecraft series are now Mario games, and I think the characters and a lot of other stuff except for Steve because he has his own article, should have their own separate articles. I also think that all of the Bowser's Fury cat enemies should have their own separate articles because Cat Goofball and Meowser do. I also had wondered what would the cat enemies would look like until they were shown. 107.146.244.150 22:00, June 22, 2021 (EDT)

Which things should have renders, which one shouldn't, and what should I do with them?[edit]

Delete this page and split the Super Mario Mash-Up Pack content[edit]

Brown Block This talk page proposal has already been settled. Please do not edit this section or its subsections. If you wish to discuss the article, please do so in a new section below the proposal.

Do not split 1-9

 • Delete this page and split the Super Mario Mash-Up Pack/Remove content pertaining to the main mode in Minecraft and move the page to Super Mario Mash-Up Pack

Delete Minecraft and split Super Mario Mash-Up Pack[edit]

 1. Nelsonic (talk) Per proposal.

Split Super Mario Mash-Up Pack content, do not delete Minecraft[edit]

Delete Minecraft and split both the Super Mario Mash-Up Pack and the Super Mario-themed map it comes with[edit]

Do nothing[edit]

 1. Waluigi Time (talk) Doing this would mean the wiki no longer classifies Minecraft as a guest appearance, despite having a Nintendo-sanctioned add-on that reskins virtually the entire game to be Mario-themed (plus a whole Mario-themed map - I'm not very familiar with how these versions of Minecraft work but can't you still play the map without actively using the pack?). That's a lot more than some of the other games we consider guest appearances can say, and there's not really a compelling argument to change that. Right now the page is doing its job of showing all the relevant Mario content in the game.
 2. Camwoodstock (talk) Per Waluigi Time, but also given we have an imminent proposal that seeks to change how we handle crossover content, and would require a Minecraft article anyways... Yeah, we can't say we're endeared.
 3. Rykitu (talk) Per all.
 4. Hewer (talk) This strikes me as a rather pointless and confusing change. It's a page about all the relevance that Minecraft has to the Super Mario franchise, which naturally consists mostly of the mash-up pack.
 5. Pizza Master (talk) Per all.
 6. PopitTart (talk) Minecraft is a game that allows you to straight up play as Mario, Yoshi, Luigi, Peach, and MANY others, as officially licensed by Nintendo. I don't see what that doesn't warrant a page.
 7. Killer Moth (talk) Per all.
 8. PrincessPeachFan (talk) Per all.
 9. LadySophie17 (talk) Per all.

WingedBoomBoom (talk) Per all.

Comments[edit]

@Waluigi Time True, but in this case, couldn't we just additionally split the map? While I agree that Minecraft does have a substantial amount of Super Mario content, it is confined to the aforementioned map and a texture pack. Other than that, the main game's Super Mario content is already covered on the list of references in third-party video games. Nelsonic (talk) 15:47, March 17, 2025 (EDT)

Reorganize and reduce the Mobs section[edit]

A Yellow Block from Super Mario World This talk page section contains an unresolved talk page proposal. Please try to help and resolve the issue by voting or leaving a comment.

Current time: Wednesday, March 26, 2025, 21:01 GMT

The second change is to remove from the main page minor variations of mob appearances. Like colored sheep, if anyone wants to see what every single color, expression or even animations of a mob looks like, they should check the gallery. The main page should only illustrate what it generally looks like, and which Super Mario creature/character it is based on, if any. Choosing which of the images to keep and which to cut is difficult, so I am turning it into a poll proposal, alongside the first option to rework the table into a gallery.

 2. Waluigi Time (talk) Yes please, the old gallery setup was a much more efficient use of space.

Remove default Minecraft mobs from the table/gallery[edit]

Including this option to simply remove the default textures for the Minecraft mobs from the main page gallery. Voting for this option invalidates the need for a table, but I'm keeping it separate from the poll above if anyone would like to keep the comparisons in the main page galleries anyway.

Deadline: April 9, 2025, 23:59 GMT

 1. Sparks (talk) With all of these default Minecraft textures, the page becomes even more massive, causing severe lag/loading issues for everyone. I'd rather for just the Super Mario franchise-specific ones to stay, as they are relevant to the wiki. The default ones only clutter the page in my view.
Oppose
 1. LadySophie17 (talk) I think it is interesting to have comparisons between what each mob looks like and what they originally were, especially when these textures quite frequently break these textures, such as Goombas missing chicken heads, or Reznors missing the top half of each of Ravager's legs.

 1. Waluigi Time (talk) In the interest of accurately representing the mashup pack, I feel that it's mostly irrelevant if a given texture is arguably generic or doesn't have an exact counterpart in other Mario games. Alternate textures are an important art of these mobs and should be displayed on the main page.

Cut cat variations[edit]

 1. LadySophie17 (talk) Too many generic horses that don't add anything. I'm not picky about which one to keep so I will just suggest the second one (Creamy). I like it.

Cut tropical fish variations[edit]

These images are base versions never seen in-game, which instead features dozens of unique designs for them. Due to this, I am adding a third, more game-accurate, option.

Cut panda variations[edit]

Panda variations might seem like temporary states, but they are fixed and unique to each panda. With that said, I am adding a third option due to the Brown Panda being more visually distinct.

Comments[edit]

I think we can take this one step further. The original mob textures, while they may be of some interest to someone who has never engaged with Minecraft before, feel out of scope when the section in general is about the mashup pack. I'm skeptical if we need them at all, but at least clearing them off the main page would do wonders for the size of the gallery (moreso than trimming a handful of texture variants). Can we have an option to do that as well? --Waluigi's head icon in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Too Bad! Waluigi Time! 13:03, March 26, 2025 (EDT)

I added an option for it. I noticed you haven't voted on Tropical Fishes and Villagers, but I'm curious what your thoughts are on these. — Lady Sophie Wiggler Sophie.png (T|C) 16:49, March 26, 2025 (EDT)
