I just had a couple simple questions...Mr. Knife, where did you find the official art for the Boomba and Tamanoripu on the Super Mario Land 2 Enemies pages? I have SCOURED the internet for official artwork for that game and can't seem to find much besides the box art, and Mario & Wario comics. Any help would be appreciated, thanks! Oh? Think so? Peachy If you don’t mind me saying so, please keep in mind what the article was like before I edited it. Comparing what the article is now and your edit, there’s a big difference. I need to know, is your edit is your ideal version of the article? If so, please judge it basd on your own criteria: it goes against plenty of other articles as well. As we see with articles with sections on personalities and relationships (ie Mario), one can see that we're not here to simply list out something or someone's appearances. We're to think bigger than a list of appearances with no account taken for the overall role in the Marioverse. I would also ask that you completely re-read the article if you have not done so already. You will notice that I have taken special consideration to focus on game play and out-of-universe content in the appearance section. It is my opinion, and one previously established by other articles, that a good article includes both in-universe and historical information. However, I know you have spent a great deal of time on your critique, so I will take the time to address everything you said point by point. It’s long, but please read it all. What I have quoted at the beginning of each bullet is your quote. "I thought we agreed on no boxart (or release dates for that matter). Makes loading times slower." Yes, we did. But, no official decision has been reached for the time being, and while you were absent I noticed what was lost when you remove the box art. Remember, later in your critique you noted that my new chart made everything look nicer. I considered our discussion thoroughly and concluded this: massive amounts of images are allowed on articles for the purpose of enhancing the writing and providing a visual idea for those unfamiliar with the series. Additionally, it helps those who learn better through integrated visual and text, such as myself. It is inconsistent to say that, even though the box art enhances the writing, it is not allowed because it is of little importance to the article. Multiple artwork from Mario Party 7, for example, is less helpful. Mario looks the same as he does previously. So what? Yet, pictures of box art in a history section help adjust the reader’s mind to the appropriate timeline. As you know, many readers think in terms of systems rather than years. Box art is a great way to show which era you are in. Additionally, how much more time does it take for you to load this article in comparison to another article with many more pictures? Like you have said, consistency is key. The release dates: because the Wiki should accurately record history, as established by previous articles, the release dates are completely valid. If you are still unconvinced, think of it as the answer to the question, "When was this addition to the Marioverse made" thing. As you know, most changes happen first in Japan (think Super Princess Peach... big difference between original release and American release), so it is particularly important to record that the additions happened in a certain order for a Wiki which has more than 95% viewer base in America. "The history section is redundant because obviously peaches grow on trees. Or any fruit for that matter." Remember, grapes, cucumbers, tomatoes, berries etc. etc. etc. grow on bushes, vines, etc. in the real world. But what about the Marioverse? Remember Yoshi's berries in Super Mario World? First level, you clearly see them attached to bushes. Obviously, it is important to note that we’re talking about a tree fruit. "You might as well say on all fruit articles that they grow on trees." I would hope that they do… except for the berries. After all, would a first-time viewer know that grapes grow on trees in the Marioverse (Super Happy Tree) rather than vines. "If an article is based off of something in real-life, only explain the features that are different about the generic item in the Marioverse." No. A huge no. There is a converse point you are forgetting. Don't forget that everything that applies to a subject present in the real world doesn't apply in Mushroom World. Peaches are never referred to as prunus persico. Neither were they traded on the Silk Road. Plus, think about it: should we not mention that Yoshi Island bees are tiny and build hives? It is important that viewers know both what is the same and different about a subject such as this. "We could pretty much explain everything about Lava in the real world, that it melts things, that it is made from molten rocks, etc.. So a whole section explaining how Peaches grow is not good." No, you can't explain everything about lava. Which game/comic/etc. are you referring to when you say it is made of molten rocks? None of them explicitly say it… and I don’t believe any imply it either. So, in this case I disagree with you fully... a section explaining that Peaches grow instantaneously (that's a big difference) and only in select locations is important. Peaches are near global in our world and take months to grow. Where would you have us note these differences if we do not have a section on growth? "The rest of the history section is better off being explained in the Appearances section." Don't you want appearances removed? I'm guessing you're probably mistyped... please clarify. Do you mean the appearances in your suggested rewrite? "What are alternate storylines? Does it have something to do with canonicity?" I would use "Appearances in other Media" except that Smash Bros. is a video game. Neither Momotaro or Smash deserves it's own section right now. As I mentioned earlier, canonicity has nothing to do with this. However, the other article you linked me to, regarding separation of sports series, etc., does, and I have kept to it as close as I could. "Why do we need to put it in table form? Although it does look nicer, it is horribly inconsistent with the other articles." If you don’t mind me “calling you” on this, you mean that rather than initiate an improvement that you deem "nicer" throughout the Wiki, you'd rather go for consistency? Policy is made and changed by people seeing what formats are nicer. For example, please see the talk page for "Peach Blossom" -- this issue came up after I expanded it and my expansion made the article inconsistent with the other Final Smash attacks. It was more informative, nicer, and overall what the Wiki was looking for, but inconsistent in format with the under-developed Final Smash attacks in amount of content and format. The fact that this is developed more than other articles of similarly important subjects should not be an issue for you. "Why are there section for every single time peaches have been mentioned? Appearing physically in a game is worthy of its own sub-section, but just saying the phrase "Peachy" does not need its own sub-section." I mention the SMRPG and MK64 uses in the same section. The subject, peaches, as well as their impact on Mushroom World society are important, as established by other articles on the Wiki. Yes, there aren't characters directly referring to peaches, but peachy refers to peaches as we know from the canonical English language, and from its use as a pun in the Japanese SMRPG, in which Toadstool was referred to as Princess Peach. "Probably belongs in a merged sub-section of the times it has been mentioned (also, what does saying Peachy have to do with the item Peach?)" I just explained the second part. The concept of the appearance section is to show how the subject impacted each game, not how it impacted overall, as is described in the rest of the article. You could also suggest that we merge Super Princess Peach and Momotaro because in both cases it is used as a symbol and shown to split open... but that wouldn’t make much sense. In the same way, SMRPG describes taste, MK64 describes an event. So, the peachy statements are very different in meaning as well as being separated in games. It is the job of the appearance section to note history and separation by game/comic/etc., not to blend and generalize. "Yes, the article will lose a lot of content if we apply these changes, but quality is always more important than quantity." Let me ask you a somewhat rhetorical question: you'd rather have the Banana article, for example, to talk about its use in the DK series very clearly and beautifully, but then miss any of the following appearances: Yoshi's Story, Brawl, Mario Kart, or Mario Sunshine? One should not be sacrificed on account of the other, but the two should be exhibited in all articles. This is a well-established concept that is the backbone of our Featured Article policy. Plus, this article has both, really: it shows very clearly what it is (Growth), how it has affected Mushroom World (Common Use, Donkey Kong's Encounter, Peach Hit Five, Peach Blossom), discusses appearances in other media (Momotaro), and furthermore goes beyond what most articles do and even discusses peaches' real world history in terms of the Mario series. That's a pretty complete article if you ask me. If one wishes to improve the quality of the article, one is to rewrite and add missing details, not remove parts that are "badly formatted" or "badly written" without rewriting them. If you still wish to remove all that you have discussed with me, even after all of our discussions, then I have many other articles that you and I should go through for the purpose of consistency. How about Crystal Coconut? Good article, but it does not explain the distinction between the vast differences between the show’s and the games’ portrayals. Rather, it lists appearances, falling under “quantity.” However, there is no “Appearances in other media” section, as required by Wiki policy. Yet, neither you nor I will remove all mentions of the show in order to improve its quality of the way it describes in-game appearances. Do you see where I’m coming from? You shouldn’t remove the sections that you find badly presented without ensuring that they remain in the article. And, as this is a Wiki, you are free to edit the peach article so that it portrays ALL of the information that is applicable and removing only what is extraneous. History is not extraneous. Remember, you are on the side that a censored quote from Bob Hoskins is better than removing it all together. In other words, you are not deleting information but are into improving the article.
