History[edit]

Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker[edit]

In Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker and its Nintendo Switch and Nintendo 3DS ports, if Captain Toad or Toadette lose enough lives in a level, an Assist Pluck Patch will appear containing an Invincibility Mushroom. Plucking it and collecting the mushroom will cause either Toad to glow, similar to a Super Star. However, the effect lasts until the end of the level, making it easier for them to deal with tough enemies, leaving any puzzles within the stage as the only remaining challenge(s). In the Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo Switch versions of the game, tapping a Toad amiibo on the level select screen is an additional way to get an Invincibility Mushroom. Using this method will automatically give the player the effects of the Invincibility Mushroom as soon as they enter a level; losing enough lives to get the Assist Pluck Patch to appear is not required. The Invincibility Mushroom item is very similar to the Invincibility Leaf item from Super Mario 3D Land, New Super Mario Bros. 2, and Super Mario 3D World. Invincibility Mushrooms cannot be used in the Bonus Episode, as Assist Pluck Patches do not appear and amiibo cannot be tapped.

Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions[edit]

An Invincibility Mushroom also appears in the Minion Quest mode of Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions. The Little Fungitown arcade proprietor bribes the Minions to fetch one from a cave in the mission Find the Invincibility Mushroom! However, since neither he nor Captain Goomba know what an Invincibility Mushroom looks like, the latter ends up picking a Poison Mushroom instead accidentally, which makes Mario succumb to Bean Fever later on.
