Tricky is a large triceratops and the first boss of Diddy Kong Racing and its Nintendo DS version. Tricky is not inherently a villain, since he was brainwashed by Wizpig into becoming one of his servants and given the first piece of the Wizpig amulet to guard. Tricky's body is red with yellow stripes on his back, and his eyes are yellow with red irises and black pupils.
During the game's events, Tricky is located in Dino Domain, on his own course, where the player can race him after winning every other course in the world. Tricky and the player race up a spiraling mountain, and there are red and blue Weapon Balloons to help the player against Tricky. The player must avoid running into Tricky, who squishes and therefore slows them down. The player wins the race if they cross the finish line at the very top of the mountain first. Tricky then challenges the player to complete every Silver Coin Challenge (or Balloon Touch Challenge in the remake) in the world, then by doing so, the player can race Tricky again in a harder rematch. In the rematch, Tricky races at a faster speed, so the player has to use Weapon Balloons to win the rematch. After losing again, Tricky is somehow liberated from Wizpig's spell, and awards the racer with his piece of the Wizpig amulet. Much later, in the ending cinematic, Tricky is seen dancing with two younger triceratops, colored yellow and pink respectively.
Tricky's only other appearance is in the 4koma Gag Battle adaptation of Diddy Kong Racing.

Trivia[edit]
- According to the August 2007 edition of Rare's Scribes, it was originally intended that Prince Tricky from Star Fox Adventures would be same character as this Tricky, back when it was under development as Dinosaur Planet.[2] According to Kevin Bayliss, former character designer at Rare, the two Trickys used the same model, before Dinosaur Planet was rebranded into a Star Fox game, after which the two characters were disconnected from each other.[citation needed] It could be assumed that Microsoft currently owns the rights to Tricky, just as Nintendo owns the rights to Prince Tricky.
