The level starts out with giant [[lava]] waves that can cause instantly defeat to Mario and company. This level also has also chained platforms and blocks that sink when one of the character's weight is added to them. The first [[Star Coin]] is located on the second chain platform near the beginning of the level. The best way for the player to obtain the coin is to stand near the end when the lava wave is at its trough point and wait for the platform to sink far enough to grab the coin. The player has to quickly jump back before the lava reaches them. The second coin is much more challenging to catch, since it is under a platform that is constantly hit by lava waves just after the midpoint. The player must wait for the lava to open the entrance to the left. Then he must sprint to grab the Star Coin and exit before the he touches the lava. The final coin is near the level's end. The player must wait for the lava to pass its crest stage. He must then jump just as he is able to enter the platform. The player can grab the coin, but he must quickly jump onto the platform above so he isn't burned by the incoming lava and avoid [[Fire Chomp]]s. The player proceeds, while passing the remaining sinking blocks and entering the green pipe at the end. On the other side of the green pipe, a flagpole is waiting at the end of the level.

World 8-3 is the third level of World 8 in New Super Mario Bros. Wii. It is unlocked by completing World 8-2 through the normal exit, while its own completion unlocks the world's Enemy Course and World 8-Tower.

Layout[edit]

The level starts out in a cavern full of lava. Throughout the level, the player must avoid giant waves of lava that cause them to instantly lose a life upon contact. Hanging over the lava are tilting platforms that tilt and sink when one of the characters step on them; these platforms can be found throughout most of the level's first half, with Koopa Troopas and Koopa Paratroopas placed on or around them. Shortly after the midway point is a series of tunnels that require the player to weave through incoming lava waves to pass safely. Following the tunnel is a series of tilting platforms that also sink if stepped on. Flame Chomps are found in this area. At the end is a Warp Pipe that takes players to the level's pole.
