World 2-3 is the third level of World 2 in New Super Mario Bros. Wii. It is unlocked by completing either World 2-1 or World 2-2, whilst its own completion unlocks World 2-Tower. This level takes place in a dark cave, which is dimly lit by lanterns, Fire Brothers, Fire Snakes, Venus Fire Traps, and fireballs.

Layout[edit]

The level starts in a desert setting above ground. The only enemy here is a Spiny, and the ? Block contains a Fire Flower. An Invisible Block above the first tree contains a 1-Up Mushroom. The Warp Pipe takes Mario and co. to the next portion of the level. As Mario and co. advance, fireballs float toward them; these illuminate the path but can hurt them if they touch them, and they continue to appear throughout the level. After the first Warp Pipe underground, there are three more, each higher up than the last, containing Venus Fire Traps.

After this, there is a Warp Pipe leading to a bonus section with a Roulette Block and two Spike Tops; the exit pipe leads to the one adjacent to the entrance pipe. Afterward, there is a platform with another pipe containing a Venus Fire Trap inside a pit; following this are two more platforms with two more Venus Fire Traps. Across a hill, there is a vertically scrolling platform, and following this is an area with two stacks of platforms, as well as three Fire Snakes; above, there is a Warp Pipe leading to a bonus area with several Spike Tops on bricks and a P Switch near the top.

Below, before the next area, there is a ? Block containing a Star, as well as a path that Mini Mario can traverse. The next area itself has two stacks of platforms and two more Fire Snakes on the first one; above, there is another path of platforms, followed by an area with the midway point.

Immediately following this are two horizontally scrolling platforms leading to the other side of a chasm, with one Venus Fire Trap on a ledge below on the first section and two for the second, and the next area has a Fire Brother. After this, there is a Venus Fire Trap on an area on the ceiling, as well as two Piranha Flowers underneath two vertically scrolling platforms. Before the end, there are two more Venus Fire Traps on a top ledge, and beyond the Warp Pipe is another area containing a Star Coin. The area outside has a staircase platform with a Koopa Troopa on it before the pole.
