At the beginning of the battle, the clock's numbers will disappear and the clock hands will point at 12:00. Instead of fighting Luigi directly, the Overset Possessor will summon a group of ghosts every time the clock reaches an hour mark (1:00, 2:00, 3:00 etc.) If Luigi defeats the wave of ghosts, the number corresponding to the wave will reappear on the clock face and the battle will move to its next phase.

During this battle, the type of attack is determined by the time that the clock is on. Instead of fighting directly, however, several different ghosts will be summoned in accordance to the time. The clock hands will move quickly and hit Luigi if he is in their path. The only way to avoid this attack is by standing at the edge of the clock face. There are a total of nine different attacks the Overset Possessor can do while in the clock:

After each attack, the clock hands will glow red and rapidly spin to the nearest hour. If Luigi is hit by the red hands, he will be burned and momentarily stunned while he tries to put out the flames. Starting at 9:00, the clock's hands will always be engulfed in flames.
After releasing a wave of ghosts, the clock's minute hand will begin moving in a slow clockwise pattern. If Luigi cannot defeat the set of ghosts before the minute hand completes its rotation, the wave will reset and force him to begin again. However, Luigi can delay the countdown by using his [[Poltergust 5000]] to pull (or push) the minute hand counter-clockwise.
After every fourth hour (4:00, 8:00, and 12:00), the Overset Possessor will pop out of the cuckoo chamber and attempt to ram into Luigi. While this is happening, the clock will rotate in two different directions while the clock hands try to trap Luigi so he can get hit. After four rams, the Overset Possessor will be stunned.

If Luigi cannot defeat the set of ghosts before the hour hand completes another rotation, all the ghosts will respawn and he must attempt that set of ghosts again. However, he can use his Poltergust to quite literally turn back the hands of time to prevent this.
The clock's hands act as walls for Luigi, limiting his movement as he battles the ghosts. Before each wave, the clock's hands will glow red and rapidly spin to the next hour. If Luigi is hit by the red hand, he will be burned and momentarily stunned while he tries to put out the flames - to evade the attack, he must stay on the outer ring of the clock. After the Overset Possessor has been reduced to his red form, the clock's hands will remain red and damaging for the rest of the battle.

The Overset Possessor is the third Possessor boss Luigi faces in the Nintendo 3DS game Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon. He is fought on the Old Clockworks's Belfry where he has taken over the large Belfry Clock. Luigi sees the Overset Possessor when he first arrives at the Old Clockworks. Professor E. Gadd tells Luigi that major parascope readings are coming from the top of the factory and that he must go investigate the scene.

Appearance[edit]

The Overset Possessor possessing the clock.

The clock that the Overset Possessor takes control of is a large cuckoo clock. The stone clock face serves as the floor while the cuckoo chamber towers above. The clock hands can impede and hurt Luigi.

Outside of the clock, the Overset Possessor looks like any other Possessor: thin, white, and has multi-layered skin. However, this Possessor has three horns, two ram-like horns in the back of his head and a curved one in the front.

Battle[edit]

Luigi avoiding the clock's hands.

The different waves summoned include:

  • 1:00 - One Greenie
  • 2:00 - Three Greenies
  • 3:00 - Five Greenies
  • 4:00 - Two Slammers
  • 5:00 - Ten Beetles
  • 6:00 - Three Sneakers
  • 7:00 - Three Greenies with shields and hammers
  • 8:00 - Three Mummies
  • 9:00 - Fifteen Beetles
  • 10:00 - Five Creepers
  • 11:00 - Eleven Robombs
  • 12:00 - One Greenie, two Robombs, one Sneaker, five Beetles, and one Slammer

After releasing a wave of ghosts, the clock's minute hand will begin moving in a slow clockwise pattern. If Luigi cannot defeat the set of ghosts before the minute hand completes its rotation, the wave will reset and force him to begin again. However, Luigi can delay the countdown by using his Poltergust 5000 to pull (or push) the minute hand counter-clockwise.

After every four waves (4:00, 8:00, and 12:00), the Overset Possessor will pop out of the cuckoo chamber and attempt to ram into Luigi. While this is happening, the clock will rotate in two different directions while the clock hands try to trap Luigi so he can get hit. After four rams, the Overset Possessor will be stunned, giving Luigi a chance to stun him with the Strobulb and suck him up with the Poltergust 5000's charged ability. As usual, this must be done three times to capture the ghost and secure the Dark Moon piece.
