Ace Coin

Ace Coins[1] are large red coins with an A engraved on them. They appear only in Super Mario Advance, as the successor to the Red Coins from the Challenge mode of Super Mario Bros. Deluxe.

Five Ace Coins appear in every level, and the player is required to obtain them to fully complete, or "ace," the level. There are 100 Ace Coins in total throughout the game. When the player collects all five Ace Coins in a level, they get an extra life. Ace Coins are often near where the player is likely to get injured or lose a life. Whenever a player replays a level, every collected Ace Coin becomes transparent and rewards only points when collected. If the player gets a Game Over or chooses "Try Again" on the pause menu in a level that they have not completed, they lose every collected Ace Coin from that level.

Ace Coins are very similar to the Dragon Coins from Super Mario World. Similar but different-colored coins known as Advance Coins appear in World-e in Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3.
