Black Shy Guys are the elite Shy Guys, although they are weaker than the Anti Guy. Black Shy Guys were utilized in the infiltration of Yoshi's Island during the events of Yoshi's Story. First appearing in Stage 3-3: Poochy and Nippy, the Black Shy Guy (who is essentially a Flying Shy Guy) would fly around dropping bombs. The only Yoshi that could eat it was the Black and White Yoshis.

Black Shy Guys next carried the dreaded Anvils in Page 6. Starring in the Lift and Ghost Castles, the Black Shy Guy would drop invincible Anvils on any intruder.

A Black Shy Guy made a guest appearance in Mario Superstar Baseball, in which it was the best fielder of the Shy Guys.

And in Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2: March of the Minis, there were some Shy Guys called Jetpack Guys who were black Shy Guys.

Black Shy Guys were once going to appear in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door as enemies.
