A Gritty Goomba is, in essence, a Goomba swathed in cloth with a spike and colored flag protruding from its head and sunglasses over its eyes. A Gritty Goomba is capable of summoning sand storms at will; however, this is the only thing it can do.
In Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, Mario and Luigi had to protect Princess Peach from these Goombas (along with Spiky Snifits) as she crossed Teehee Valley to get to Little Fungitown. If they failed, the Princess would be taken down a Warp Pipe to one of their underground bases, which the Marios could infiltrate to save Peach.
In the Super Mario Brothers Super Show! some Mummy Goombas appeared. While they were very different, they were mummies like Gritty Goombas.
