{{@|Waluigi Time}}I think you made a mistake here on one point. You can't compare Super Mushrooms, which have had a consistent name and appearance indicating that it's a variant, with Fire Flower, since their case is separate, since their designs have been changing throughout the video games and unlike Super Mushrooms, they have nothing that consistently clarifies what a variant of Fire Flower is, which is why the category of Flower Power Ups was created, in addition to the fact that there are really few "variants of Fire Flower" so the search for variants of these has never been particularly difficult.[[User:Sorbetti|Sorbetti]] ([[User talk:Sorbetti|talk]]) 11:56, March 29, 2025 (EDT)

Honey, Maple & Jelly

Not to long ago, I merged Jelly Shroom, Jelly Super and Jelly Ultra. Super and Ultra had very little information, making the great for merging. So, keeping with that format, Honey Shroom/Super/Ultra and Maple Shroom/Super/Ultra should be merged too. However, these pages have way more information than their jelly friends. So, should be merge them, or resplit Jelly Shroom and expand it the same way? -- Ghost JamShyghost.PNG 22:21, 9 February 2007 (EST)

Gallery

These kind of galleries would be possible, however the images would be marked as "Unused". We have to be careful, you never know when a sysop looks too quickly. - Cobold (talk · contribs) 08:23, 27 January 2008 (EST)

Fire Wario

If it's possible, could someone remove the category link from Fire Wario's userpage Paratroopart.pngKoopa-Troopa

Hungus Fungus, Make Category:Super_Mushrooms and rename this page as Category:Fungi

A Yellow Block from Super Mario World This talk page section contains an unresolved talk page proposal. Please try to help and resolve the issue by voting or leaving a comment.

When I usually go to the Mushroom category, it's because I'm looking for Super Mushrooms(Like Boo Mushroom, Drill Mushroom, Etc) and their variants, but it's difficult to find them because the page includes too many mushrooms in general.

My suggestion is to create a separate category for mushrooms and rename the current page to Fungi to facilitate navigation.

First, SUper Mushrooms have a large number of variations, enough for their own page.

And by creating a dedicated page for Super Mushrooms, I think it's perfect to changethe actual one to Fungi, since this name includes all mushrooms in general.

Finally the Super Mushroom category would be positioned above the Fungi category, just like Goombas and others.

Let's Make Fungus Hungus(Support)

  1. Sorbetti (talk) Per proposal.
  2. DryBonesBandit (talk) As it was my idea on Discord, I should vote this. The changes would be positive in my opinion.

Use the Fungicide(Oppose)

  1. Waluigi Time (talk) I understand the idea behind this proposal, and it's not a bad one, but I don't think the proposed implementation is very clear. A category should generally be what it says on the tin, and just calling it "Mushrooms" isn't very intuitive for readers or editors about what the scope of the category actually is when it excludes other subjects that are still mushrooms. EDIT: The "Super Mushrooms" name is arguably a step in the right direction, but I'm still not sure if it's an accurate representation of the material. Yes, these subjects do share design elements with the Super Mushroom, but does that mean they are Super Mushroom variants or is that just the design language Nintendo prefers when making mushrooms? (See also Category:Flower power-ups, most of these share some design elements with Fire Flowers and are almost certainly conceptually derived from them, but would calling them Fire Flowers be accurate or is that just how Nintendo likes to design power-ups that are also flowers?) If we can get some official statements to back that up, I'd be open to it.
  2. Arend (talk) Per Waluigi Time. The initial proposed name for the new category doesn't work because there's many entities that are mushrooms (and even have "Mushroom" in their name) that apparently "do not fit the criteria" since they don't have the Super Mushroom design, so calling it simply "Mushrooms" while renaming this one WILL cause a LOT of confusion, and the second proposed name "Super Mushrooms" doesn't work when you realize Mushroom is a thing in multiple games which shares that very same design. I have tried suggesting alternate solutions such as introducing Category:Mushroom power-ups (similar to Category:Flower power-ups) and Category:Mushroom items (which I personally think are fine solutions), but people in the comments still aren't satisfied with this because of other things that have the Super Mushroom design that are neither power-up nor item; and at this point, they just want a category of any subject with JUST the Super Mushroom design, which just is not going to be categorizable in a way that will satisfy either side, if the comment section indicates anything. So for now, this is just too cumbersome for me.

Fungitastic Comments

Uh... aren't most of the pages contained in this category mushrooms already? Why go rename this one to "fungi" and then create another "mushrooms" category? Wouldn't it be simpler to just create a "fungi" category instead and move all the non-mushroom fungi to that category?
Speaking of which, what articles in this category do you not consider mushrooms, anyway? Anything that isn't a derivative of the Super Mushroom item? That does not make a lot of sense considering that there's many non-item species that are also considered mushrooms in a way. This ranges from subtler enemies like Capnap to more obvious ones like Trompette. This train of logic also makes no sense when you realize that Category:Flowers is about any type of flower instead of any derivatives of the Fire Flower.
Speaking of which though, there's a subcategory in there that offers a more suitable solution to your issue than this roundabout renaming nonsense: Category:Flower power-ups. Why not rebuild this proposal so to create Category:Mushroom power-ups and leave the name of this category alone? Or were you wanting to include all the 1-Up Mushrooms or the Mushroom healing items from the RPGs as well, and were unsure if they count as power-ups? ArendLogoTransparent.pngrend (talk) (edits) 20:29, March 27, 2025 (EDT)

In the wiki's discord this was discussed better and this conclusion was reached, as the proposal implies, the goal is to create a page for mushrooms (such as drill mushroom, gold mushroom, etc.), this is due to the problems that can arise when one specifically searches for that type of mushroom but cannot find them, as I mentioned there are enough variations for its own category, and as I explained again, it is better to change the name of the page to fungi since this name encompasses the concept of mushroom better and would avoid confusion with the new category that this page is trying to create.
Also, because of what you mentioned and the fact that the first mushroom from which the other variants originated is called mushroom, is the cause we want to make the name change.Sorbetti (talk) 21:00, March 27, 2025 (EDT)
Supporting Sorbetti here. This is about making a separate category for Mushrooms, capital M (mushrooms sharing the design of the Super Mushroom), and renaming this general category to Category:Fungi. Not all Mushrooms are power-ups, so the "Mushroom power-ups" subcategory would not work well. The name of this category would have to be changed to give the "Mushrooms" name to the proposed category. Besides, "Category:Fungi" would probably work better for this category as users such as Sorbetti and I, and likely some people, would think "Category:Mushrooms" contained the Super Mushroom design-sharing ones rather than fungi in general. @Sorbetti @DryBonesBandit Then name the new category Category:Mushroom items instead? This still feels like a roundabout way to solve a marginal problem. ArendLogoTransparent.pngrend (talk) (edits) 02:08, March 28, 2025 (EDT)
There’s still another problem with that as some are not items (e.g. Ghoul Shroom). 100.1.209.240 06:15, March 28, 2025 (EDT)
@Arend I changed the category name to "Super Mushrooms" instead of just Mushrooms. Do you think this is a better change?Sorbetti (talk) 17:31, March 28, 2025 (EDT)
@Sorbetti ...Maybe(?), but I would still prefer Category:Mushroom items. Keep in mind that there are still Mushroom items out there that look just like a Super Mushroom (or heck, even identical), but are still called just "Mushroom".
And I'm still not entirely keen on wholly renaming the current category to "Fungi", but I guess I could live with it. Keep in mind, that not only does the current category still list a lot of things that are obviously mushrooms (even if they don't look like Super Mushrooms), such as Goombas, but it also lists a subcagegory for Mushroom Platforms, as well as one for Toads, which were once called Mushroom Retainers; neither category would fit with your proposed subcategory for Super Mushroom-like items. Though, at the very least, I'll admit that with your currently proposed subcategory name, there won't be any confusion about this compared to how you proposed this initially.
@100.1.209.240 Admittedly, Zombie Shroom and Ghoul Shroom are a bit of an outlier, they're the only things that resemble Super Mushrooms that also act directly as enemies that I can think of, as opposed to Poison Mushrooms or Rotten Mushrooms. Though I think they can still fit in a Mushroom item category: not only does it have another variant in Ghost Shroom that IS an actual item, but these things are also supposed to mimic Mushroom items, just like the aforementioned Poison Mushroom and Rotten Mushroom. ArendLogoTransparent.pngrend (talk) (edits) 07:06, March 29, 2025 (EDT)
So I think the problem is more personal, ghoul and zombie shroom are mushrooms as their name and appearance indicate, so Category: Mushroom Items is useless.Sorbetti (talk) 10:03, March 29, 2025 (EDT)
Also bringing up the Mushroom (status effect); which serves as an item in no way. 100.1.209.240 10:20, March 29, 2025 (EDT)

@Waluigi Time What do you think it should be called then? It's the default name used for all mushrooms, as I mentioned above, as well as drill mushrooms and bee mushrooms. Hence the name change. This current page will be called fungi to better encapsulate the concept of Mushrooms in general and thus leave mushrooms in their own category.

I know it's confusing to call them mushrooms, but it's the official and most commonly used name.Sorbetti (talk) 15:30, March 28, 2025 (EDT)

I'm afraid I don't really know what a better solution would be, but I would rather not push a solution that's going to be this confusing. --Waluigi's head icon in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Too Bad! Waluigi Time! 15:50, March 28, 2025 (EDT)
@Waluigi Time What do you think about the Super Mushrooms Category? It would be more obvious what it refers to, and with the renaming of the current category to Fungi, does it seem better to you?Sorbetti (talk) 15:57, March 28, 2025 (EDT)

@ArendThe reason we chose Super Mushrooms is because it's the first object from which the others are derived. Mushrooms are just an object that has appeared many times, but they are derived from Super Mushrooms, which is the first Mushroom introduced in the series.

Furthermore, the main difference with Fire Flower is that Super Mushroom does have many variants, while I could count the Fire Flower variants on the fingers of my hand.Sorbetti (talk) 11:42, March 29, 2025 (EDT)
