When stood on, they visibly shake or fracture and slowly descend before abruptly disappearing. They rematerialize in their original positions after a few seconds. Though similar to Donut Blocks, Falling Platforms begin to fall as soon as the player character steps on them without means of stopping it.
Green Koopa Troopas, also rendered as Koopa Troopas (Green) and occassionally referred to as Green Koopas, are a variety of Koopa Troopa introduced alongside Red Koopa Troopas in the original Super Mario Bros. Unlike the red-shelled ones, Green Koopa Troopas walk straight off the edges of platforms without pause and are among the most recurring enemies in the games within which they appear. Green-shelled Koopa Troopas appear in isolation from their red counterparts in many of the spinoffs and a few of the mainline Super Mario games, in which their color is usually not specified within the accompanying text and media.
In most games, Falling Platforms are composed of unstable rocks. The only exception is Super Mario Odyssey, where they seem to be made of brittle, rusted metal.

During development of Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, Falling Platforms were referred to as 「テトリスブロック」(Tetorisu Burokku, Tetris Block).
The unfastidious movements of Green Koopa Troopas parallels the behavior of Green Koopa Paratroopas, which become Green Koopas when stomped, and Green Shells in the Mario Kart series. They are varyingly shaped. When stood upon by a Yoshi, they fall down into the ground or off the screen. They shake when the Yoshi stands on one, indicating that they will fall. They appear in Visit Koopa And Para-Koopa, Lakitu's Wall, and Shifting Platforms Ahead. In Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3, they additionally appear in Exercise in the Skies.

A type known as Sliding Blocks appears in Tap-Tap's Sunken Cave and Teeth-Chattering Chill Zone.

In Super Mario 3D Land, Cascading Stones, also referred to as crumbling platforms, are all composed of craggy rocks. Most are rectangular prisms and the same size as the Donut Blocks in the game. They first appear in the desert-themed World 5-2, where Mario (or Luigi) must walk along them to reach the top of the Goal Pole. They also appear in World 8-5 between stretches of Red-Blue Panels suspended in a cavern, rendering stable footing rare. Large cube-shaped ones appear in the final battle with Bowser in 8: Part 2, where they alternate with stable ground up an incline. Cascading Stones are more recurring in the special worlds, where they appear in large numbers in Special 1-2, Special 4-5, and Special 8-1. In Special 4-5, Cascading Stones are the only platforms available for much of the level.

Falling Platforms are needed to climb the Crumbling Tower to obtain two Power Moons, one of which requires Mario to bring an Uproot on this tower through these platforms. Falling Platforms in this kingdom slowly sink down upon contact before breaking in the air. Falling Platforms later reappear in the Metro Kingdom, where they appear inside New Donk City Hall. Here, they are of a broader shape and uniform orange color. They also break faster. These objects also appear in the Vanishing Road sub-areas of the aforementioned kingdom and the Dark Side.

The unfastidious movements of Green Koopa Troopas parallels the behavior of Green Koopa Paratroopas, which become Green Koopas when stomped, and Green Shells in the Mario Kart series. Though originally quadrupedal, they have largely been depicted as bipedal turtles with green shells and matching boots from Super Mario World onward.

In the Red Koopa Troopa's trophy description, the text "chase Mario with nets" is a mistranslation from the Japanese trophy description, which states that they chased Mario by climbing on wire nets, which occurred in castles and fortresses in Super Mario World.

A henchman of Bowser. In the old days, they'd retreat into their shells for a short while to protect themselves after being stepped on. Recently, however, some have begun to immediately pop back out. You'll often find them marching straight ahead--if the path ends, they'll just march into the abyss. Surely there are no braver turtles to be found.

Koopa Troopas are the main representatives of Bowser's army. They are just about as common as Goombas. They know no fear, bravely charging ahead even if it means falling off a cliff or into a hole. They do this in Smash Run as well. Defeating them will reduce them to a shell you can throw. (American English)
These turtles are just as common as Goombas in Bowser's army. They're brave little soldiers, and nothing will make them stop in their tracks – not you, not holes, not even cliffs. The same goes in Smash Run, too. Once they see a fighter, they'll go right after them. Beat them or stomp on them to turn them into shells you can throw. (British English)
