We already have three or so of these posted and correctly listed, but several others are still wrong or missing the Famicom "in-between" version. I think separate subsections for ''Nintendo Power'' artwork and JP manual artwork should also be made. (Oh, also, the shogakukan for ''Advance'' DOES have some art we don't, mainly of enemy recolors.) :The art we already have would be considered ''Super Mario Advance'' artwork due to the {{media link|SMUSA Clawgrip Artwork.png|noticeable}} {{media link|Clawgrip.png|reshading}} and [http://hit930.sakura.ne.jp/hitjapan/book1/P1205240076.JPG recoloring,] but they should definitely be included in the gallery, possibly in a separate "''Super Mario USA'' Artwork" section. Also, as it turns out, ''Encyclopedia Super Mario Bros.'' retains a lot of that same artwork (although the pink Shy Guy is a mirrored version of the red Shy Guy there, just like in the [http://hit930.sakura.ne.jp/hitjapan/book16/P170328086.jpg Shogakukan guide]). On top of that, ''[http://hit930.sakura.ne.jp/hitjapan/book4/P1306200061.JPG Super Mario USA] [http://hit930.sakura.ne.jp/hitjapan/book4/P1306200062.JPG Hisshō Kōryakuhō]'' has yet another set of artwork as well, so that could be worth some consideration if we can acquire high-quality scans. As for the ''Nintendo Power'' artwork, they're obviously done by different artists, but they're still intrinsically tied to the history/promotion of the NES version of ''Super Mario Bros. 2'', so I think they should be kept in those sections so that each title clearly belongs to a game release. Anyway, good find! [[User:LinkTheLefty|LinkTheLefty]] ([[User talk:LinkTheLefty|talk]]) 17:11, 12 May 2018 (EDT)

::That was about what I was suggesting be done, barring the NP ones, hence why I brought up the shading differences (which is also why I'm attempting to gather some of the retouched ESMB art from various older games). Anyways, you can thank Paper Jorge for uploading that Clawgrip picture and linking the basic source. (On a related note, I'm amused that the grey Beezo is still pink...) Version Origins[edit]

As I discovered from the video game art archive (October 2016 is the exact month of posting), a lot of the artwork that this site attributes to Super Mario Advance actually came from the Japanese manual for Super Mario USA for the Famicom, with Super Mario Advance sometimes giving better shading. Observe: [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] [8] [9] We already have three or so of these posted and correctly listed, but several others are still wrong or missing the Famicom "in-between" version. I think separate subsections for Nintendo Power artwork and JP manual artwork should also be made. (Oh, also, the shogakukan for Advance DOES have some art we don't, mainly of enemy recolors.) Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 20:12, 11 May 2018 (EDT)

The art we already have would be considered Super Mario Advance artwork due to the noticeable reshading and recoloring, but they should definitely be included in the gallery, possibly in a separate "Super Mario USA Artwork" section. Also, as it turns out, Encyclopedia Super Mario Bros. retains a lot of that same artwork (although the pink Shy Guy is a mirrored version of the red Shy Guy there, just like in the Shogakukan guide). On top of that, Super Mario USA Hisshō Kōryakuhō has yet another set of artwork as well, so that could be worth some consideration if we can acquire high-quality scans. As for the Nintendo Power artwork, they're obviously done by different artists, but they're still intrinsically tied to the history/promotion of the NES version of Super Mario Bros. 2, so I think they should be kept in those sections so that each title clearly belongs to a game release. Anyway, good find! LinkTheLefty (talk) 17:11, 12 May 2018 (EDT)
