Fire Chomps, or Fire Shooters in Super Mario 64, are variations of normal Chain Chomps found in Super Mario Bros. 3.

Fire Chomps differ from regular Chain Chomps in several ways. First, they are not restricted by chains, instead floating along with a tail made of fire. At any time, they may shoot fireballs at Mario or Luigi. The fireballs are taken directly out of their tail, which contains four fireballs. When all four have been fired, the Fire Chomp will self-destruct, damaging the Mario brother if he's within the blast radius.

Several Fire Chomps from The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3.

Secondly, Fire Chomps only appear in World 5, The Sky. They float along as Mario and Luigi navigate the stage, making total nuisances of themselves, especially in World 5-9, where the player has a limited amount of platforms he can jump onto in addition to an automatically-scrolling screen.

Fire Chomps return in New Super Mario Bros., again with a four fireball limit. They only appear in 7-1. Shockingly, in level order that excludes towers and castles, the Chain Chomps appear in the level right before them, 6-6, and also, there are 5 Fire Chomps in 7-1, and, in 6-6, only three Chain Chomps.

Strangely, the invincible Fire Shooters from Super Mario 64 look like Fire Chomps in the remake where they can be destroyed, but only by Yoshi's tongue. Lastly, unlike Chain Chomps which are almost invincible (bar a few techniques and powers of special characters), Fire Chomps can safely be jumped on to destroy them.

Appearances In Other Media

Fire Chomps made several appearances in The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3, such as in the episode "The Beauty of Kootie", where several Fire Chomps act as crew members on Bowser's Doomship.
