The selection of Gear focuses on raising base POW. Mario wears Daredevil Boots to win battles quickly with his doubled base POW and Tight Belt to use less SP to reduce item usage in the Gauntlet. Luigi and Bowser wear Surprising Socks and Minion Band SP, respectively, to restore SP every turn. Luigi wears Challenge Medal to increase difficulty. If not, he wears Tight Belt. Bowser wears Intruder Fangs to move twice every turn.

Captain Shy Guy's Captain Commands are Deny, Rally, Parry, and Call for Backup. CP is used minimally to possess full CP in the final round of a battle, where all CP can be used. Parry is only used as a last resort when Captain Shy Guy is the last unit standing and has half or less HP. Call for Backup is also an acceptable last resort, but is used rarely.
