Ghosts[1] are enemies in both games of the DK series.
History
DK: King of Swing
Ghosts debut in DK: King of Swing. They are encountered in the Ship of Souls only, where they float around a set area until they spot the player character (Donkey Kong or Diddy Kong), at which point they fade in and out while chasing them. A Ghost can damage the player character while it is opaque, but a single charge attack can defeat it. Ghosts can be safely passed through while translucent.
DK: Jungle Climber
Ghosts are featured within Spooky Woods, a level in DK: Jungle Climber. They are always invisible unless Donkey Kong moves around. If it is close, a Ghost scares the player character away. They pass through the player character if they are motionless.

All you have to do is stop moving and stay totally motionless. If you stay still, the ghosts turn transparent, and they can't hurt you. When you're walking, just stop where you are. When you're on pegs, grab on with both hands and freeze! Remember, when you're in danger, just stay calm and stay still." – Cranky Kong. DK: Jungle Climber.
