Tall, Tall Mountain is the twelfth course in Super Mario 64 and Super Mario 64 DS. The entrance to the course is the small painting on the second floor of the Mushroom Castle, located directly behind the staircase. This is the only main course in the DS version that has neither a Switch Star nor a Silver Star mission.
Layout[edit]
The player starts at the base of the mountain next to a small pond. Behind them is a narrow ledge with a 1-UP Mushroom on it, and in front of them is a trio of Goombas. Past the Goombas is a ramp that leads to two gaps the player has to long-jump across; failing to cross the first one has the player land on the ground below, but failing the second results in a lost life. Beyond the gaps are several Mushroom Platforms with Red Coins and a yellow block containing a 1-UP Mushroom. The center Mushroom Platform has a warp to the cannon. Past the Mushroom Platforms is a series of platforms that lead farther up the mountain with Red Coins and Monty Moles on them. In the DS version, there is an additional Black Brick that uncovers a mushroom when broken. Additionally, there is a Mushroom Platform across the gap that holds the Star Marker of the level. Beyond the Monty Moles is a path with Bob-ombs and a Chuckya, followed by a bridge with a Bob-omb Buddy on a small platform below it. Afterward, there is a Ukkiki (who attempts to steal the player's cap) and a Fly Guy, followed by a rolling log the player has to cross in order to get across the gap.
After the log is a large slope with several iron balls rolling down it. Alternatively, there is a different path with Bob-ombs the player can use to go around the slope with the iron balls. At the end of both paths is a large gap the player has to long-jump across followed by a Fwoosh that attempts to blow the player off the mountain, causing them to lose their cap. Next to the Fwoosh is a hidden passage that leads to the Mysterious Mountain Slide. Past the Fwoosh is a grassy area with Goombas, though the grass makes it difficult for the player to jump. After the grass field is a narrow bridge over a waterfall, and across it is the peak of the mountain.
To the left of the narrow ledge with a 1-UP Mushroom on it at the mountain's base is an area with an upward gust of wind that carries the player to the path with Bob-ombs and the Chuckya.
