In Donkey Kong Land 2, the ceremony is simply called Video Game Heroes, since Cranky Kong does not appear in the game.

To beat the three characters, the player must collect DK Coins on their adventure, and Diddy Kong will appear as one of the top three if he gets at least 19 coins, eliminating Link from the standings.
The event also appears in Donkey Kong Land 2, where it has the same role. It is no longer hosted by Cranky, which is reflected by its rename to Video Game Heroes. Additionally, the trash can and the objects near it are no longer present.

In the Game Boy Advance remake of Donkey Kong Country 2, a few things have been changed. Mario now has 67 coins, Link has 50, and Yoshi has 39. Also, Yoshi is put in third place, while Link is in second place. Therefore, if the player gets over 39 coins, Yoshi will be eliminated from the standings, instead of Link.
Cranky's Video Game Heroes received a few changes in the Game Boy Advance version of Donkey Kong Country 2. The background shows a shore instead of a pitch black room, and each podium has a barrel-like shape. Yoshi and Link have switched positions to third and second, respectively. Since the game has more Video Game Hero Coins than the original version, the number held by each contestant is also increased: Mario has 67, Link has 50, and Yoshi has 39.

In a corner of the screen, Sonic's shoes and Earthworm Jim's raygun are seen next to a sign that says "No Hopers", most likely meaning that they failed to collect enough coins. Mainly, it was included because of Nintendo and Sega's rivalry at the time. This detail was removed in Donkey Kong Land 2 and the Game Boy Advance remake.

Diddy at Cranky's Video Game Heroes

Cranky's Video Game Heroes is an awards ceremony hosted by Cranky Kong on Donkey Kong Island[1] in Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest. Its purpose is to see who can collect the most Video Game Hero Coins. Diddy Kong participates in the event after the player completes K. Rool Duel, and Cranky's Video Game Heroes can be subsequently visited by holding the L Button and R Button buttons from the world map. The contest shows the "video game heroes" on a podium. By default, Mario is in first place with 39 Video Game Hero Coins, Yoshi is in second place with 29 Video Game Hero Coins, and Link is in third place with 19 Video Game Hero Coins. If Diddy has at least 19 Video Game Hero Coins, he appears in third place on the podium, eliminating Link from the standings, and having at least 29 moves Diddy up to second place on the podium and relegates Yoshi to third place. When Diddy obtains all 40 Video Game Hero Coins, Diddy appears in first place and Mario in second, to Cranky's surprise. The bottom right corner of the area shows Sonic's shoes and Earthworm Jim's plasma gun next to a trash can, and a sign reading "No Hopers" leans against the trash can. It can be inferred that Sonic and Earthworm Jim failed to collect enough Video Game Hero Coins for the competition, and it is a real-world reference to Nintendo and Sega's console rivalry at the time.

The event also appears in Donkey Kong Land 2, where it has the same role. It is no longer hosted by Cranky, which is reflected by its rename to Video Game Heroes. Additionally, the trash can and the objects near it are no longer present.
