Robot turtles[1] are objects in Super Mario Galaxy. They are Koopa-like platforms found on a planet within the Dreadnought Galaxy. After Mario floods the planet by luring a Bullet Bill to break a vault, two robot turtles (which were semi-buried in the ground previously) emerge and start moving across the surface of the water. They enable Mario to reach some Star Bits and climb back onto the main body of the planet. The objects' Japanese internal name, which translates to "Mercator Turtle (Ocean)," refers to a method of cartographic projection, seemingly in reference to their elliptical trajectory path relative to the planet's shape.
