I thought they were just regular bananas in the Country series. Donkey Kong 64 is the original appearance of these items, I believe. Mariofan132 12:10, 9 April 2009 (EDT)

The Bananas in DKC are Golden Bananas. DK64 references this at the beginning of the game when King K. Rool steals Donkey Kong's "hard earned hoard of Golden Bananas".--Knife (talk) 23:46, 20 February 2010 (EST)

Scope[edit]

This page suffers from "everything but the kitchen sink" syndrome; much like Golden Mushroom a couple of years ago, it has become a dumping ground for any gold-colored banana. Let's see what we've got here, shall we?

  • A one-off ancient artifact from the DKC TV series that curses anyone who steals it. Haven't watched so I don't know if "Golden Banana" is the actual name of the artifact or if the term is used generically.
  • The Donkey Kong 64 collectible; retroactively part of DK's banana hoard and the game's equivalent of Power Stars or Power Moons. Similar to the Giant Bananas in Donkey Kong Country (the game, not the show) in that they have a Nintendo logo on them (though it's a different Nintendo logo).
  • A collectible in Donkey Kong Barrel Blast that gives you fifty bananas when you get it (speaking of which, where are the DKBB sections for banana and Banana Bunch?). Don't know if it's actually called "Golden Banana" or not.
  • The banana from Donkey Kong Country Returns in the Golden Temple that transports DK to a sky world with fruits 'n' stuff (or the Cloud world in the 3DS version). Called "a golden Banana" by the Prima guide (note that golden is lowercase). Referenced in the Returns-themed DK Jungle track.
  • The Mario Kart Arcade GP DX item "Gold Banana", a golden variant of the standard Banana Peel item from the Mario Kart franchise.
  • A gold-colored banana bunch in Mario Party is the "treasure" in DK's Jungle Adventure. Referred to generically.
  • In, Mario Party 4, the banana peels thrown by Ukikis that trip players in Tree Stomp have a gold variant that speeds them up instead. Called "golden banana" (lowercase) by the "advice" section of the explanation screen.
  • In Mario Party 9, the gold banana bunch in DK's Banana Bonus is worth ten bananas.

Here's a slightly rushed summation of how we could handle this:

  • DK64 collectible stays here.
  • TV series artifact could potentially get its own article. A case could be made for merging with the DK64 collectible, since Crystal Coconuts also originate from that show and have an unrecognizable role (as well as no longer being a singular entity), but like I said, they have more in common with the DKC Giant Bananas than the cursed artifact from the show. Whichever the community prefers, I guess.
  • Barrel Blast collectible gets its own article.
  • Returns artifact gets its own article.
  • Mario Kart AGPDX item gets its own article.
  • MP1 treasure does not mandate coverage in my opinion. It's inextricably tied to the board and not named to my knowledge.
  • MP4 object is a minigame-exclusive subject and thus does not demand coverage any more than Gold Flowers or love letters. At best it could share an article with the GPDX one, but I think even that's a stretch.
  • MP9 object could potentially share an article with the Barrel Blast one due to similar function, but otherwise does not mandate coverage for the same reason as the MP4 one.

I agree, but the problem is that also opens inconsistencies with how bananas and peels share an article, despite many historic attempts to split them. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 18:10, October 7, 2023 (EDT)
The concept of a gold-coated banana is borderline generic, most instances presented on this article have a gameplay purpose, and aren't tied to some recurring character or power-up (in the same way many instances of boomerangs in the Mario franchise relate to Boomerang Mario rather than the Boomerang power-up per se). To add to this, like Doc suggested, I think it's better the article for "common" bananas gets sorted out first and whatever is changed in that regard is reflected here as well. -- KOOPA CON CARNE 18:26, October 7, 2023 (EDT)
I'm not sure what you're talking about. The proposals to split banana peels failed by consensus long ago, and there doesn't appear to be any ongoing debate regarding splitting them. That sounds pretty "sorted out" to me. I also don't see why the "banana vs. peel" issue is so relevant in the first place, GPDX and MP4 are the only games with golden banana peels, and both games treat the bananas and their peels interchangeably (which was the main argument against splitting banana peels). Technically DK64 also has them, but they only appear in the hoard cave to represent the missing Golden Banana hoard; they have no significance and thus are not split-worthy.
