I'm not so sure about the identifier. The summary for the move says it's for consistency with titles like [[100m (Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games for Nintendo 3DS)]], but the only reason that article uses that identifier is because there's [[100m (Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games for Wii U)|another event with the exact same name in a game with the exact same name on a different console]], a very specific situation in [[MarioWiki:Naming]]. That's not the case here because this is the only subject called a Scrapbook from a game called Super Mario RPG. --{{User:Waluigi Time/sig}} 20:44, November 3, 2023 (EDT)

I'm not so sure about the identifier. The summary for the move says it's for consistency with titles like 100m (Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games for Nintendo 3DS), but the only reason that article uses that identifier is because there's another event with the exact same name in a game with the exact same name on a different console, a very specific situation in MarioWiki:Naming. That's not the case here because this is the only subject called a Scrapbook from a game called Super Mario RPG. --Waluigi's head icon in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Too Bad! I'm personally in support of keeping the console name in the identifier. As for the Mario & Sonic events, even if one is exclusive to a certain version, I'd retain console name in title, but I digress. Super Game Gear (talk) 20:47, November 3, 2023 (EDT)
Agreed with Super Game Gear. The identifier in "Scrapbook (Super Mario RPG)" could refer to both the original version of the game and its remake; same with "Pole Vault (Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games)", for that matter, where it's not stated that the subject is in fact exclusive to the game's 3DS version. It's like if Patch (character) was titled "Patch (sentient)"; sure, there may not be any other subjects in the Mario franchise that are named "Patch" and are sentient creatures as opposed to objects, but the "character" identifier helps narrow down the subject's nature to its utmost degree that can be considered helpful to readers. Identifiers should strive to be specific and MarioWiki:Naming should be amended in this regard. -- KOOPA CON CARNE 09:40, November 4, 2023 (EDT)
Could this perhaps be resolved if...the identifier was removed from the remake article, and we just had "abouts" to cover the Japanese/Switch title? I always thought it looked kind of off to see identifiers being used when subtitles are version-exclusive, like Diddy's Kong Quest and Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!. LinkTheLefty (talk) 10:05, November 4, 2023 (EDT)
I don't think this would be a good course. "Super Mario RPG", "Donkey Kong Country 2" etc. can well refer to their original versions as well as their remakes. -- KOOPA CON CARNE 10:22, November 4, 2023 (EDT)
Very well. Other consideration: we have many articles with the full identifier "Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars" too. If those are being kept as-is, won't it already be clear what "Super Mario RPG" version this article refers to from the shorter identifier and the article introduction? LinkTheLefty (talk) 09:43, November 5, 2023 (EST)
My suggestion would be to have the identifier in those examples you linked moved to "Super Mario RPG" (no subtitle) per my statement above that it would then unequivocally refer to both versions. If this is done, other subjects from games in similar situations would be treated similarly, such as Spiny (Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest) dropping the "Diddy's Kong Quest" part since this enemy also appears in the remake of DKC2. -- KOOPA CON CARNE 09:51, November 6, 2023 (EST)

Move[edit]

Now that this proposal passed, is it okay to move this article to Scrapbook (Super Mario RPG) now or does that need its own separate proposal? Or should it wait until that proposal is properly implemented as part of the naming policy? jan Misali (talk · contributions) 11:51, June 13, 2024 (EDT)

I think you can go ahead, Misali. Usually, it's expected that the proposer implements passed changes. LinkTheLefty (talk) 17:27, June 13, 2024 (EDT)
