Pigs are recurrent characters in the game Donkey Kong Country Returns, these pink pigs wear thick glasses and help Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong on their journey to recover the Banana Hoard from the hands of the Tiki Tak Tribe. These pigs appear frequently from some spots of the levels to tell the player how to use the controller to do some actions. They also appear holding the courses' checkpoints every time the Kongs pass next to them and return there in case they lose a life and holding green and checkered flags during their Time Attack run. When the player has spent all the lives, these pigs can appear at the beginning of the courses to assist the player to activate the Super Guide mode and call for Super Kong to do the job to complete the level if desired.

Mayor Dour, Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door

Pigs appear in the Super Mario franchise as animals that are typically anthropomorphic or capable of speech.

In Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, Doopliss turns the citizens of Twilight Town into Pigs with the ring of a bell. When Doopliss is defeated, everyone is turned back. The title of the chapter in which these events take place is called "For Pigs the Bell Tolls", which is a reference to the novel written by Ernest Hemingway called For Whom the Bell Tolls. Unlike nearly every other character in the game, the pigs of Twilight Town are three-dimensional in nature, and are nearly identical to Li'l Oinks from Paper Mario, albeit with red eyes likely to denote their cursed status.
