Bub seems to come from a ''Super Mario 64'' guide, and they're referred to as Cheep Cheep in ''Mario Party 3'' (which, according to the mini-game's translation on the Cheep Cheep Chase page, isn't a mistake), so this really seems to just be an N64 design of the same enemy; going by [[MarioWiki:Naming#Acceptable sources for naming|naming]], articles prioritize in-game names or those apparent in the enclosed instruction book, which Bub is neither. If this proposal passes, I might make a similar proposal for Bubba and Big Bertha.

merge 3-1
Bub seems to come from a Super Mario 64 guide, and they're referred to as Cheep Cheep in Mario Party 3 (which, according to the mini-game's translation on the Cheep Cheep Chase page, isn't a mistake), so this really seems to just be an N64 design of the same enemy; going by naming, articles prioritize in-game names or those apparent in the enclosed instruction book, which Bub is neither. If this proposal passes, I might make a similar proposal for Bubba and Big Bertha.

Proposer: LinkTheLefty (talk)
Deadline: December 21, 2014, 23:59 GMT.

Support[edit]

  1. LinkTheLefty (talk) Per proposal.
  2. River Piranha (talk) Per proposal. They may have been intended to be Cheep-Cheeps, but this was likely never acknowledged.
  3. SmokedChili (talk) Per proposal. Let's follow this proposal with Bubba when this is said and done.

Oppose[edit]

  1. Toadbrigade5 (talk) If we have Bubba, and we don't have bub, it could confuse readers.. And I'd appose the one for Bubba because Big Berthas are explicitly stated to be female, if we merge Bubba, it should be with Boss Bass.

Comments[edit]

@Toadbrigade5 The proposal states that if it passes then a proposal will be made about merging that one as well. Yoshi876 (talk)

Whoops, sorry. I didn't see that. I'll change my vote right away.Toadbrigade5 (talk) 20:37, 9 December 2014 (EST)

I would disagree with merging Bubba with anything because Bubba is the name used for both Super Mario 64 and Mario Party Marshal Dan Troop (talk)

Maybe I should save it for the possible eventual Bubba proposal, but it would probably work on similar logic to this one if it's successful: Bubbas are only named in guides (at least in Super Mario 64) as well as Big Bertha for the most part, they're considered identical creatures in their original language and aren't dissimilar, and the policy is to go by latest in-game names above all else (actually, I just realized that if the two are considered the same, that means Bubba might take priority over Big Bertha due to Mario Party). As for whether Bubba is supposed to be Big Bertha or Boss Bass, the wiki apparently decided that its Super Mario 64 DS update is Big Bertha, so the proposal would likely go with that for simplicity's sake. (On a side note, where did the idea that Big Bertha = female and Boss Bass = male come from, exactly? Besides the obvious name difference...) LinkTheLefty (talk) 18:36, 13 December 2014 (EST)
Bubba comes directly from the game Mario Party on the Board Yoshi's tropical island. Also there are a number of apperance differences between bubba and Big Bertha. Marshal Dan Troop (talk)
Like Bub (Super Mario 64) / Cheep Cheep (Mario Party 3), any difference in appearance seems to be more due to their N64 models than anything else (especially if you factor that, when you get down to it, Big Bertha, Boss Bass and Bubba are really more or less older, inconsistently-named versions of the modern-day Cheep Chomp). Although the next step might need a bit more reconsideration before deciding to go through with it. LinkTheLefty (talk) 14:11, 16 December 2014 (EST)
