First Attack is a badge in Paper Mario and Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. When it is worn, getting a First Strike on an enemy that would give one or fewer Star Points after a battle (which is considered to be "weak") defeats it instantly. The stronger Bump Attack defeats weak enemies upon contact in general.
In Paper Mario, First Attack does not work against Amazy Dayzees and Dry Bones. In Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, it does not work against enemies in the Pit of 100 Trials.[1]
In Paper Mario: Sticker Star, Paper Mario: Color Splash, and Paper Mario: The Origami King, Mario naturally receives this effect when a First Strike would defeat the struck enemy in one hit, causing MAX UP Hearts to indirectly take on the badge's role.
Paralleling this, in the Nintendo Switch remake of The Thousand-Year Door, the Badge Point requirement for First Attack was lowered from 1 to 0.
Locations
In Paper Mario, First Attack can be bought from Rowf's Badge Shop after Chapter 1 for 100 coins.
In Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, First Attack can be bought from the Lovely Howz of Badges after Chapter 2 for 100 Coins.
Merluvlee's prediction
- "I see...a First Attack Badge. It is for sale at the open-air shop in the plaza outside the castle gate." -- Merluvlee, Paper Mario
