*In an early scene in ''[[Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time]]'',one of the [[Hammer Bro.|Hammer bros.]] actually refers to [[Baby Mario]] as a "spud". However, considering the fact that his use of the word "spud" wasn't proper and that he called [[Baby Luigi]] a "tater tot" shortly afterward, it is almost certain that he nicknamed Baby Mario "spud" after the alternate potato name rather than the ''Wario's Woods'' enemy.

Spuds[1] are round creatures with leaf-like fans on their heads. They only appear in Wario's Woods, where they are the most common enemies in the game along with Squeaks and Fuzzes. They are very easy to defeat, as any chain of bombs can destroy them. Spud's English name comes from a nickname for the potato.
