Which part of Ending exactly is the Mario All-Stars fanfare based on? If it's this part, it seems like it was just coincidental. Mario JC 21:26, September 6, 2023 (EDT)

The Mario All-Stars fanfare is an abbreviated arrangement of 0:24-0:27 of "Ending" (this part). The notes of Ending are Ab-A-B-C-A; Ab-G-Ab-A-E, and the notes of the SMAS fanfare are A-A-B-C-E, which is taken directly from the beginning and end of this section of "Ending" (Ab-A-B-C-A; Ab-G-Ab-A-E) The only difference is that the Ab is replaced with an A. The Ab serves as a walkup note to the A, and simplifying a piece by replacing a walkup note with the note it is leading up to (ex. Ab-A becoming A-A) is extremely common in music and doesn't make it a different piece at all. Additionally, the context of this arrangement's inclusion is important to consider. It is used in a very similar context to SMW (the successful ending of a game) and was included only 3 years after the release of SMW. In my opinion, the combination of all of these things solidifies the SMAS fanfare as an abbreviated arrangement of "Ending" rather than a simple coincidence. I personally agree with Mario jc. Although i will say, i did hear some similarities between the Yoshi's Cookie intro (the first 5 notes specifically) and the SMB3 Ending theme (specifically the 2nd section, E-DEFG-), but that doesn't mean it was directly inspired by it. -- FanOfYoshi at 02:34, September 7, 2023 (EDT)

I still think that's a stretch to say it's derived from Ending, especially since the final note in the All-Stars fanfare is D, not E. Mario JC 08:05, September 7, 2023 (EDT)

After another listen, I think you're right that that is a D, not an E at the end, so that definitely weakens the connection. However, I still think that the two themes are similar enough to at least be mentioned in the article, even if it is not a direct arrangement. ToxicOJ (talk) 01:08, September 9, 2023 (EDT)

If it's only similar (which I still think is too many departures - the "merging" of the two measures, the first note, the final note, and the change in rhythm - to be notable), it shouldn't be listed as an arrangement, so the page falls back below the minimum number of appearances required for an article.
