The logo of WiiWare

WiiWare titles were downloadable games and applications for the Wii that could be found on the Wii Shop Channel. While many WiiWare channels such as the Check Mii Out Channel and the Everybody Votes Channel could be downloaded for free, as well as demos for select WiiWare games, WiiWare games could cost anywhere between 500 to 1,500 Wii Points. The WiiWare games could only be bought on the Wii Shop Channel. Unlike Virtual Console games, WiiWare games were original titles, and could all be played using a Wii Remote, unlike many Virtual Console games which required a Wii Classic Controller or a Nintendo GameCube Controller.

On January 30th, 2019, the Wii Shop Channel was shut down, leaving WiiWare games inaccessible unless they were bought before January 30th, 2019. Users can still re-download their prior purchases.
