Revision as of 16:22, December 21, 2021
You can replace...
You can replace '''Reason:''' {{{1}}}. with {{#if:{{{1|}}}|'''Reason:''' {{{1}}}.|}} which makes the reason stuff not show up if first value is not defined. Caps Lock LORD 05:13, 24 February 2007 (EST)
Can someone put this---> to the left of the message? It looks cooler.
Can someone unprotect this? I need to add info.Knife (talk) 15:38, 22 August 2007 (EDT)

I was going to add this, but could a sysop add this instead? It got protected before I could revise it again.

Editprotected/suggestion
When the delete template is placed in talk page, it says that I'm need to delete the talk page of talk page. It's possible to fix, example:
{{#ifeq:{{TALKSPACE}}|{{NAMESPACE}}|Don't delete the page itself, only this talk page|{{#ifexist:{{TALKPAGENAME}}|<u>Delete</u> the talk page as well.}}}}
It includes: check if the temple is in talkspace and if not, checks talkspace for existing. SWFlash
- The #ifexist function doesn't work very well - it glitches up Special:Wantedpages IIRC. Marioguy1 (talk)
Guide to use
It should say what you type to use this template.Mr Man 10:39, 3 December 2011 (EST)
- It's so simple, it really doesn't need explaining. But in case someone else does come to the talk page looking for guidance, you just type this:
{{Delete|insert-reason-here}}

Link to deletion policy
In the template, there should be a link to the deletion policy to allow newbies to understand the meaning of deletion. --Bryce talk contributions 21:28, 10 January 2012 (EST)
- It's more of a tool to let admins track down things that need deleting, but I suppose a link wouldn't hurt, especially if it's colour-linked to be black so it doesn't stick out and clash with the greyscale motif of the template. - Walkazo 11:29, 12 January 2012 (EST)
Unprotect
Can you please unprotect this template? I need to add something, then protect it again, thanks! -- MarioSmasher 10:01, 10 April 2012 (EDT)
- Add what? Post it here and if it's a good idea, I can add it for you. - Walkazo 10:41, 10 April 2012 (EDT)
- Here: Replace

- Thanks to you too: it was a good idea, and I was happy to help. - Walkazo 11:04, 10 April 2012 (EDT)
Unprotect
Can you please change this template? I need to add ''Quit booming around, buddy!''

Document Proper Usage?
Should this template document it's usage, especially for {{delete|reason}}
? --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs)
- What do you mean by "documenting" its usage?
- Shokora (talk · edits) 10:51, 14 July 2016 (EDT)
- I thought I explained because there was a parameter that can be used but is not documented. There is just no documentation how to use the template. {{delete-request}} also has this issue. Many templates we use regularly have no documentation and related templates. {{reminder}} and {{rewrite}} do what {{delete}} don't. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 19:23, 1 August 2016 (EDT)
- I don't see the harm in providing a usage section in noinclude tags, but overall, it's not wholly necessary, especially since there is only one parameter you can modify in a lot of these. Mario-HOHO! (Talk / Stalk) 19:28, 1 August 2016 (EDT)
- Sadly, new users or even users new to Wiki editing may not know the intricacies of how we do things here. Only experienced editors know what to do. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 19:32, 1 August 2016 (EDT)
- Would Help:Template be sufficient? But even then, I suppose the inputs aren't immediately shown to newer users. Me, I learned how to use templates by looking at the coding ot templates in articles. Overall, I don't see the harm. Mario-HOHO! (Talk / Stalk) 19:37, 1 August 2016 (EDT)
- I'm starting to get the feeling that we need an overhaul how we list and document each template. I mean we have game templates ({{SMG}} and {{YI}}), so why not do this for templates? A template for listing templates and we transclude that template into documentation <noinclude> sections. A deviation of {{Wikipolicy}}. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 20:03, 1 August 2016 (EDT)

I've added it's usage. If people are fine by the information and how it's worded, this could be marked as resolved.

Below the "please delete any corresponding talk pages as well", can we put down Remember to check What Links Here and the page history before deleting so like if it's a new stub or something, users could help improve the page. (talk) (edits) 16:02, 16 November 2016 (EST)

Since my proposal to make a separate template that has the opposite message failed, can we just change this to say "If the talk page creates a redirect, delete it as well"? That way, we won't lose any potentially-important talk pages for deleted articles and categories, as has occasionally happened in the past. (Also, anyone with the power to do so able to restore those, or is there some long-exceeded time limit for that?) Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 02:16, 20 December 2017 (EST)
- Seconded, though I think it should say "If the talk page creates a broken redirect, delete it as well", since it seems the concern was talk page redirects showing up in WantedPages? I can't really think of any other reason why someone would want talk pages deleted if the main page got deleted. In any case, the current text is misleading. ShadeTempest (talk) 02:26, September 7, 2019 (EDT)
- I really don't think a proposal's needed, since most talk pages have been kept if they're pertinent to their parent pages' deletion in my experience. -- Lord G. matters. 16:47, October 6, 2019 (EDT)
- coming from what alex, glowsquid, and JC have told me (a lot): Talk pages when being moved for names only should delete the talk page if it's forum speak. Otherwise it stays. As for straight up file removal, the talk goes unless it had a talk page proposal on it. Trig - 17:05, October 6, 2019 (EDT)
