"I'm a mini-pulsar." |
Pulsars are small and strange red-eyed creatures covered in spiked armor that appear in Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars. They appear as stronger variants of Clusters, and can be found on Star Hill and in Bowser's Keep within one of the battle courses. Their names are derived from pulsars, radiation-releasing neutron stars found in distant nebulae; a Pulsar calls itself a "mini-pulsar" in its Psychopath text.
Battle
Pulsars have extremely high defense, and possess powerful electric attacks such as Static E! and Bolt. A hint-giving man hiding behind a house in Mushroom Kingdom warns Mario to avoid attacking these "pointy monsters" if the party chats with him leaves for Star Hill. This alludes to the fact that Pulsars can perform the Migraine special attack; unlike Clusters, Pulsars will use the move as soon as they are hit. This will instantly down a party member unless they deflect the attack or wear an accessory such as the Safety Badge. Their high defense also makes it unlikely that Mario and the party can actually one-shot the Pulsar otherwise. Upon defeat, there is a chance that a Pulsar will drop a Pick Me Up.
