* If I remember correctly, Super Mario Advance gives the Power Squat Jump its own animation different from the usual jump, turning it into a backflip. Uh, the jump in Super Mario Bros. 2 is elsewhere referred to here in the Wiki as the Power Squat Jump, and it's technically NOT a Somersault. Should I edit that part out? Dinosaur bob 23:07, 6 August 2008 (EDT)

How do you get the name 'Somersault' from a back-flip move? I think we should move this to a page called Backflip, since when Luigi performs it, it is called a Helicopter Backflip. -Cmario17 (talk)
The prima official game guide for Super Mario Galaxy calls it backflip. GalacticPetey
In the instruction booklet, it says this is Back Flip too. And there's an article called Back Flip.... Mario JC
All of those are true, but the game Super Mario Galaxy 2 refers to it as a somersault. Koopa K! The KoopaTrooper User! (talk) 07:41, 21 August 2012 (EDT)
Merge Backflip here or split backwards somersault info and merge that to backflip

These are the same thing. Having them split could make some amount of sense if back and side somersaults were split as they have elements of both, but they aren't split, and even then it could work. Also, more people are going to search for "backflip" anyways.

Split backwards somersault and merge that with backflip

Just split backwards somersault
Do nothing

I'd rather see backflip and side somersault split first before this happens, tbh. 21:01, February 11, 2020 (EST)
