Purple Coins are Coins that appeared in the game Super Mario Galaxy. Not much is known about them except that they may be taking the place of Red Coins and Blue Coins from past Mario games. Also, in recent scans, it would appear that the Purple Coins only appear after two conditions are met.
- The game must be beaten once.
- In some galaxies the player might find purple comets flying over it. When that happens, the player has to collect all 100 Purple Coins while it's flying overhead to earn a power star.
It is unkown what happens when the comet leaves but it's a safe bet that the player cannot collect the coins again. This is unconfirmed however.
