Candy rings[1], also referred to as deadly rings[2] and death rings[3], are circular projectiles that Wendy O. Koopa can shoot from her magic wand. They are named since they are colored in red and white stripes, like a candy cane.
Candy rings were first seen in Super Mario Bros. 3, where Wendy attempts to shoot them at Mario; she does so at the beginning of the fight and for the first two times she is stomped; unlike her brothers' magic blasts, they do not leave the arena, instead bouncing off the walls, ceiling, and floor at right angles.
They later reappear in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, where they are able to expand and squeeze Mario and Luigi.
Candy rings once again return in New Super Mario Bros. Wii in both of Wendy's battles, where they function the same as in Super Mario Bros. 3, though they are slower (and even more so underwater in her second fight) and now vanish after a while. As of this game, they are now yellow, matching her bracelets, instead of red and white. Candy rings return in New Super Mario Bros. U, although she throws them instead of casting them, though only so she can knock loose the icicles hanging from the ceiling.
Their latest appearance is in Paper Mario: Color Splash, although only one giant one appears during Wendy's battle. Mario must use the Instant Camera Thing to avoid both it and her follow-up attack.
