Super Mario Strikers -- Heads Up, parsed in-game as Heads-Up, was a promotional online Flash game published by Nintendo around the release of Super Mario Strikers for the Nintendo GameCube. It was listed in the Nintendo Arcade, a now defunct section with web games on Nintendo's website.[1]

Gameplay

The aim of the game is to collect as many points as possible while repeatedly heading a soccer ball as Mario, who can be moved across the screen with the left and right arrow keys. Mushrooms and Blue Shells often spawn at regular intervals on the screen and can be collected by running into them, granting Mario different effects. Mushrooms speed him up and make him glow red, while Blue Shells cause Mario to slow down and glow blue. The item that is currently taking effect is displayed on the top-left corner of the screen.

Occasionally, character icons appear at random positions on the screen; at the same time, a voice clip of that character is heard. They can be collected for points by bouncing the ball into them. Each character icon is worth a certain number of points, depending on the character depicted on it. In order from least to most valuable, these are:

  1. DAA520 and Template:Color-link-piped – worth 8 points.
  • red – worth 10 points.
  • purple – the most valuable; worth 15 points.

The current score and the high score are shown at the bottom of the screen. The game is over when the player fails to catch the ball. The game over screen offers the option to either replay the game or visit the official website for Super Mario Strikers.

The Palace arena is always seen in the background during the game.
