Inka Dinka Doo is a large statue character from the Donkey Kong Country animated series. He has many different faces, and changes his faces to show his different emotions, which seem to be neutral/solemn, serious/mad, furious, and content/happy. Apparently, Kaptain Skurvy's great, great, great, grandfather hid the Crystal Coconut in Inka Dinka Doo's eye. However, it fell out and Donkey Kong came and picked it up, making him the future ruler of the island. DK often visits Inka Dinka Doo's Temple to ask Inka for advice on his current situation or help him solve a dillema.
Inka Dinka Doo first appeared on the series in the episode "Raiders of the Lost Banana". In that episode, Polly Roger steals the Crystal Coconut for King K. Rool, and DK and Diddy Kong chase him into Inka Dinka Doo's Temple. They manage to reclaim the Coconut, but before leaving the temple, DK finds a Golden Banana (not to be confused with those seen in Donkey Kong 64) belonging to Inka and gives it to Candy Kong as a present, enraging the idol. As Cranky Kong tells DK and Diddy, however, the Golden Banana is cursed, and soon bad luck comes to those around Candy. DK and Diddy eventually return the Banana to Inka, which placates him, but Polly Roger then steals it and brings it to K. Rool. Fortunately for the Kongs, only K. Rool is now to be doomed by the Banana's curse since he planned on doing evil things with it.
Later, in the episode "Orangutango", on the day of Kongo Bongo Island's annual Orangutango dancing contest, Inka Dinka Doo later called DK to the temple in "Orangutango", saying he would need to pass a few tests to save the island. These tests involved sending DK through three passageways while avoiding spikes, pits, and flying arrows, respectively. DK managed to pass these tests, after which Inka told him to go save the island. DK didn't understand, but shortly afterward, Funky Kong, who was supposed to dance against K. Rool in the contest, hurt his ankle and couldn't dance. DK filled in for Funky, and then realized that Inka had in fact been giving him dancing lessons, for Inka had foreseen that Funky would injure himself. (Ironically, DK did not win the contest, but K. Rool ended up blowing his chance for the prize, a wish on the Crystal Coconut, by wishing General Klump would stop doing an annoying dance.)
In the episode "Legend of the Crystal Coconut", Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong went to Inka Dinka Doo's Temple to ask him about the secrets of the Crystal Coconut. He gives them the ominous message, "To learn, you must give up everything." Donkey Kong interprets this wrong, and ends up giving the Crystal Coconut to King. K. Rool in order to learn about it. Later in the episode, Diddy and Cranky get the Coconut back, and Diddy takes it to Inka Dinka Doo's Temple to hide it. When Skurvy, Green Kroc, and Kutlass corner the Kongs in the temple, Diddy runs away with the Coconut, drawing away Kutlass and Green Croc. At the end of the episode, Donkey Kong tells Inka Dinka Doo, "I will be back, you can count on it," The statue simply responds "Whatever."
Inka seems to have a bit of an unknown personality as well, because in the episode "Watch the Skies" he shows amusement towards Donkey Kong saying he should tell them his secret origins, turning to his smiling face and saying Donkey Kong would share his secret with everyone. He also seemed to be loosening up his previously strict privacy, as all the Kongs held Diddy's surprise birthday party in his temple, and he said, "Happy Inka Dinka Birthday!"
In "Four Weddings and a Coconut", after mistakenly asking Candy to marry him, Donkey goes to Inka Dinko Doo to ask for his permission, for no future ruler can get married without his permission. As usual, he doesn't get a straight answer, and when he goes back to ask again he winds up trapped in a maze of obstacles and deadly booby traps for nearly twenty four hours. Finally he gets through, reaching the inner sanctum and finding a wedding ring, showing that Inka approves of the marriage. With a smile and a congratulation, Inka quickly ejects Donkey Kong from the temple. (Ironically, after all that, Donkey Kong ends up not getting married after all.)
Another example of Inka Dinka Doo's loosening up was during the episode "Vote of Kong-Fidence", in which he allows an election for the future ruler of Kongo Bongo, even though in the past he'd been clear about wanting Donkey Kong as ruler. It is possible that he just had a lot of confidence in him.
Trivia
- His name is based off of the character named Enkidu in the Epic of Gilgamesh, as well as the saying "Inka Dinka Doo" by the actor and comedian Jimmy Durante.
