Monstar was a ghost-like monster that attacked those entering Starborn Valley in Paper Mario. It turned out, though, that it was only a bunch of Star Kids trying to protect their home. When he's about to attack, he makes a huge light show with tons of special effects. It's funny when he attacks because he only does 1 damage. It's really just moving the plot along than anything else.
