Mario Day (also written as Mar10 Day[1]) is an official[2] holiday created to celebrate the entire Mario franchise. It takes place on March 10th each year, the reason being that this date, written as "Mar10", looks much like Mario's name.[3][4] The holiday could be celebrated by dressing up as Mario, having a Mario-themed party, or simply playing Mario games,[5] among others. The day was unofficially known as National Mario Day, and the date on which the holiday was created is currently unknown. Since 2017, Nintendo started celebrating this day annually by promoting Mario games and holding Mario-themed events.
