The Starting Grid is an element that appears throughout the Mario Kart series. The grid can carry up to twelve characters with a marker for each character. When Lakitu gives the signal to begin racing, the characters will leave the grid as they race across the track. The grid can be divided in four rows of two, two rows of four, four rows of three, or two rows of six, depending on which game in the series.
