Spikes are rough and pointy objects that usually cause instant death. In Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island and Yoshi's Island DS, spikes, here called Thorns, are found mostly in castles. Luckily, a Yoshi Egg will destroy a single spike, though since spikes are usually found in groups and Yoshi can only carry six Yoshi Eggs at a time, most spike groups are impossible to completely destroy.

In Yoshi's Story, spikes actually move and jump around in the Bone Dragon Pit.

There is a Spike Stomp Badge in Paper Mario that lets Mario jump on spikey enemies such as Spinies.
