The Bonus Chance (also bonus game, Bonus Stage[1], Slot Machine[2]) is a minigame found at the end of each course in Super Mario Bros. 2 provided the player has collected at least one coin in Subspace during the level.

The rewards vary between the original NES version of the game and the Super Mario All-Stars version as follows:

SMB2 original:

  • Cherry in left column: +1 life
  • Cherry in left+centre columns: +2 lives
  • Cherry in all three columns: +5 lives
  • Any other symbol in all three columns: +1 life

SMAS:

  • Cherry in left column: +1 life
  • Cherry in left+centre columns: +2 lives
  • Cherry in all three columns: +3 lives
  • 7 in all three columns: +2 lives
  • Any other symbol in all three columns: +1 life
