| Mario Clash game was originally going to be released under the title Mario Bros. VB, first revealed in at the Shoshinkai 1994 prototype. It was to be a remake of the classic Mario Bros. with the 3D elements the Virtual Boy system was capable of. Less than a year later, the game (which was still in development) was announced to be drifting off from the arcade-style gameplay and was planned to be launched as a full platformer under the title VB Mario Land. Due to the early failure of the Virtual Boy, the project was cut short and was released as Mario Clash. The ideas for the platformer were scrapped, and instead the Mario Bros. elements and ideas were kept for the final game.
