The Shield is an item in the SNES version of Mario's Time Machine. It is the shield that Joan of Arc used during her battles. Its design features a blue sword on a white background, with brown specks on the shield' upper half. Bowser, wanting to add it to his museum, travels back in time and steals it. Mario later visits Bowser's Museum, takes it for himself, and travels back in time to Orleans with the intention of returning it. However, as he does not know who it belongs to, the shield cannot be returned until Mario asks the inhabitants of the camp about the current situation. If he shows the shield to the Duke of Alencon, the Duke tells him that the shield belongs to Joan of Arc and must be brought to her immediately. Once Mario finds out all of the necessary information and brings it to Joan, she quickly takes it and begins preparing for the assault on Orleans.
