This frees the Chain Chomp, letting it break the bars and escape. The star in Super Mario 64 DS is located in the same place and can be gotten in the same way, but there are several alternatives to getting the star. This includes using Vanish Luigi to phase through the bars, ground-pounding the peg a single time as Wario, or collecting the star during 5 Silver Stars! using Vanish Luigi when the Chain Chomp relocates to the adjacent field.

Trivia

  • In Super Mario 64, a higher jump is required to collect the star, since it is too high to collect with a normal one; in Super Mario 64 DS, this has been changed so that a normal jump can be used.
