The original Yoshi's Island from Super Mario World.

Yoshi's Island is where the Yoshis originated. The island is part of a larger land called Dinosaur Land and first appeared in Super Mario World.

Apperances

Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island

It next appeared in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island when Baby Mario fell down to the island after the Stork carrying the Mario brothers was attacked by Kamek.

Yoshi's Story

In Yoshi's Story, Baby Bowser took over the island in an attempt to capture the Super Happy Tree. Bowser placed a spell over all the Yoshis, but six were unaffected, as they were unhatched and still in their eggs at the time the spell was cast. The six Yoshis must battle their way to Baby Bowser while eating fruit and regain their island by breaking the spell.

Mario Golf 64

Yoshi's Island is also one of the courses in Mario Golf 64.

Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time

During Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time, Yoob and the Shroobs attacked the island. Mario, Luigi, Baby Mario and Baby Luigi save this island. This game portrays the island with unique enemies such as Pidgits who were only known to exist in Subcon and Coconutters who are a completely new species. There were Yoshi statues around the island, and one of the had a hole where the spring water was coming out. Baby Mario must drink some of this water to get full of water, and then make Baby Luigi hammer him and then Baby Mario will spit the water out. This move is useful to douse bonfires.

Super Smash Bros. series

Yoshi's Island as it appears in Melee.

Yoshi's Island appears as a stage in Super Smash Bros.. The stage is based on Yoshi's Story. It is consisting of a big platform with the Super Happy Tree in the background, three other smaller floating platforms above, and three clouds at the edges of the stage, which vanish when a character stood on them too long. This particular stage reappeared in Super Smash Bros. Melee, as an enhanced remake.

Super Smash Bros. Melee also has another Yoshi's Island stage. It is based on Super Mario World. It is in a "valley" which is enclosed by a slope on the one side and a Warp Pipe on the other. In the middle, there is a hole with Turning Blocks above it. When the Turning Blocks are hit, characters can fall in the hole and get KOed. There are also two groups of turning blocks floating on the stage serving as additional platforms.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl also has a Yoshi's Island stage. It will be based on Yoshi's Island DS rather than on Yoshi's Story. The stage has also been seen changing seasons. This stage is also one of the 'jolly' stages, so Crates and Barrels on this stage will look like presents.

Yoshi's Island will be one of the various stages in the upcoming game Itadaki Street DS.

Species

Though Yoshi's Island is mostly filled with Yoshis, many other kinds of species live on the island as well such as Shy Guys, Huffin' Puffins Poochy's species, and a notably high variety of Piranha Plants (the island is possibly their origin home, due to there being a jungle made entirely out of them).
